UchihaKamename This is where all the action will take place. 8/25/2010 #1 |
UchihaKamename Alright, now that we've got everyone accepted and everything squared away (I hate squares), let's begin our roleplay. So, I may have told you both that it's going to take place in Athens. Our characters don't have to be there yet, since the children of Hermes have to come and find your character before he or she goes. However, if your character already knows about the war and everything, he or she is free to begin their journey to Athens. Now, who would like to start? 8/29/2010 #2 |
HayashiOkami (I shall start. :D) Lanthanon had felt the pull of his father's overwhelming power weeks ago. The other sea gods were on the same course as he, some eager and some reluctant. He hadn't been all too eager to join in the war effort, but there were always those who said that fidelity came first and besides that, he didn't think that he could resist the call either. This was just something that he had to do whether he wanted to or not. Just yesterday he had left the salt of the Atlantic behind and entered the Loire in France with the intent to swim until he could cross into the Rhône. At least, those were the instructions that the other gods gave him. He'd rarely ever been into rivers, but the paths weren't that hard to follow. The easiest route would have been through the Mediterranean, but Lanthanon needed a break from the salt water. It must have been half a decade since he last emerged from the bottom of the sea. If the war grew as large as it was supposed to, he would need more energy. The best cross-over point was to cut through the city of Lyon, so he was told. Once there, it would be rough for him to get through the city due to his appearance and rather sensitive features, but it was the thinnest point between the Loire and the Rhône. The gods had stressed punctuality, not that it mattered much when the demigods had to wait for their invitations from Hermes and his messengers. Lanthanon intended to enjoy himself a bit before he arrived in Athens. Whenever he saw people, he grew just a little giddy and happy inside. The ocean did grow terribly lonely at times. When he'd reached the point of the river that he was suppsoed to stop at, Lanthanon planted his feet firmly on the riverbed and rose from the rushing current. The water slid off his skin easily as he stepped onto land, the sun's warmth heating his cool form. With a trill, he fluttered his wings and changed forms from a beast of the sea to a gangly and awkward human body. Not two steps later, he fell flat on his face. 8/29/2010 #3 |
UchihaKamename (That's very clever, I must say.) Calvin had ran away from the orphanage the night before. Even at midnight the city was alive and there were people everywhere, walking down the sidewalks. One could hear the faint sound of music coming from the many nightclubs around the city. Cars were zipping up and down the street, honking horns at times and flooding the air with light. The autumn air had been crisp, he remembered. He felt free, like he could do anything and nothing would happen to him; for a little while, he forgot about the orphanage, about life before he had escaped. But just for a while. All of a sudden, he had felt a warmth envelope his entire body. It was the strangest sensation, but at the same time it was rather calming. He also heard a voice speaking to him softly, just whispering to him. Normally, he would have ran away in fright or screamed for help (he was a devout believer in the occult; he honestly thought he was being possessed by a demon). But somehow this felt entirely natural. He had never thought he was a particularly special young man, so then why were these strange things occurring? The voice was soft, gentle; it said to him: "There is a great Prophecy that will soon be fulfilled... You are needed in Athens, the homeland of your soul and the birthplace of your ancestors... Get there as fast as you can, and all of your questions will be answered..." The voice trailed off and seemed to float away with the wind, as if it had never been there. The warmth receded, and Calvin shuddered at the cold of the air surrounding him. Everything returned to how it had been before. What just happened to me? He thought, and glanced around. Had anyone seen what just happened? Who had been speaking to him in that soft, ethereal voice? Shaking his head in disbelief, he made his was down the sidewalk, his pace becoming brisk. He felt as if the Rhône were calling him, now. He felt a great hurry, and began to run as fast as he could, the crisp air whipping his hair into his face. What the hell is going on with me today? He couldn't help but think, running to the bank of the Rhône and turning around quickly to witness a figure laying on the rocks, having fallen face-first. He walked up to it slowly, hoping the person wasn't dead. Nearing it, he closed his eyes and listened to the sound of the river washing over the rocks for a moment. He then crouched down next to the figure and reached his hand out. Suddenly, he blacked out, falling head first onto the figure. 8/29/2010 #4 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon had tried to rise from his rather ungainly position on the riverbank, but the rocks and earth beneath him kept slipping from underneath his feet. The muscles in his legs were just too weak to keep his weight. Until his energy levels could even out and return to a semi-normal state, he was content to lay there and listen to the peaceful song of the river. He wished that he could remove these robes that completely erradicated his powers, but he wasn't allowed and he wasn't willing to find out what the punishment was for disobeying, either. Faintly aware of a presence that wasn't entirely human or that of a god or goddess during his doze, Lanthanon stirred when he heard the person draw near. What he didn't expect was for it to suddenly collapse on him. With a yelp, he twisted into a sitting position that proved difficult to maintain. Knees folded beneath him, he went to shake the boy on the ground. When his hands came in contact with the boy's, he started again and paused. There was something peculiar about him, something off. Lanthanon couldn't pinpoint it until he leaned closer and caught the scent of something that wasn't human. Having not used his nose much and smelling only salt for years, the scents on land were potent and yes, he thought, this boy is definitely a child of the gods. "Wake up," Lanthanon said in a raspy, stiff voice that still wanted to sing more than it wanted to talk. He shook the boy and lifted him the best he could from the rocky ground. He was still interested in his scent, but he couldn't decide whose child he was. He nudged the boy with his head, thinking that if it worked on baby dolphins, it could work on humans and demigods, too. 8/29/2010 #5 |
UchihaKamename Calvin felt a nudge and a shake; his eyes opened slowly, unfocused, and his brain felt muddled. Was he back at the orphanage? He heard an unfamiliar voice tell him to wake up, and sighed with relief. Alright, so I can't be back at the orphanage, that's for sure... His eyes focused on the person before him, then he sat up slowly and gazed around at his surroundings. He remembered running over to the riverbank and finding a body laying down by the shore, but after that, his mind was blank. Was this person the one who he had seen? He took a moment to take in what was happening. Breathe in, breathe out... Breathe in, breathe out. He thought, in attempt to calm himself and clear his mind. When he was significantly relaxed, he looked at the person in front of him. Jeez, has this guy ever been out of doors? He's pale as a ghost. Calvin thought, eying him suspiciously. The boy was in fact very pale, his general appearance startling to Calvin. He was unkempt, with hair down to his shoulder blades, and it didn't look like he had brushed his hair in a while. There was something very odd about this boy, not just about his appearance, but about the general aura surrounding him. He sat there for yet another moment, raising an eyebrow at the stranger. "Were you the one laying on the riverbank?" Calvin asked in French, perplexed. He felt as if this wasn't an accident; there was definitely a reason for their meeting. He felt something of a pull towards the other, as if they had a shared goal or something like that. Another odd feeling. There was something very odd about this day, indeed. 8/29/2010 #6 |
HayashiOkami "Yay! Awake, you are awake! Okay? You okay? You fell on me!" Lanthanon laughed, happy that the demigod was alright. He was one of his very distant siblings, after all. The French words were rather stiff on his lips, but Lanthanon considered it a good thing that he had listened to those fish twenty years back. Without them, there would have been some major issues with communication. Lanthanon had the instinctive feeling that they would be together for awhile. There was no other reason that two children of the gods would happen to meet on the same riverbank. That reminded Lanthanon of something. This boy was his sibling, in some distant way. Lanthanon had never met any of his siblings before, only the other sea gods unrelated to Poseidon. But he wanted to know whose child this was. He leaned closer and sniffed him again, but only caught the scent of the gods- and humans. Lanthanon frowned, but pushed the thoughts away. Surely, someone in Athens would be able to tell the difference. If this boy was a child of Poseidon, he would have been able to tell. "Oh well....Who are you, brother? Who are you?" Lanthanon said cheerily, leaning forward to hug him. Humans were so warm and he was always so cold. He didn't like the night if he wasn't underwater. The sun wasn't even there to warm his skin. The stupid clothes he had been given to wear since he was young provided no heat and leeched him of his powers. Sometimes, humans and demigods were nice, when they weren't polluting the oceans and making him sick. 8/29/2010 #7 |
UchihaKamename Calvin raised an eyebrow again, this time intrigued by the cheeriness and closeness of this boy. He was usually used to being in close proximity of others (the French did have a tendency to be a rather uninhibited people), but this was a little awkward, to say the least. This strange boy was hugging him, referring to him as "brother" and being a bit too peppy, especially for this hour. But still, he felt that they would be together for a while, and, if anything, they could become friends. Calvin was always up for making new friends, so it was all good. Well, this isn't too bad. It could be worse. He did look kind of like a panda, so I wasn't expecting him to be particularly friendly... "I'm Calvin Duchamp. And don't worry, I'm fine. I'd be more worried about you, too be honest. Why are you calling me 'brother'? Are we related? Because I'm pretty sure I'm an orphan, so that would be pretty strange, huh? And, who are you, may I ask?" Calvin said, chuckling. The boy's French sounded a bit strange, as if it weren't his first language. He also couldn't help but jump a bit when he felt the other boy hug him. His skin was freezing. He figured he was cold because it was the middle of autumn and he was wearing Greek robes, so no wonder. Calvin hugged the strange boy back anyway, despite his questions, and despite him having never seen the other in his life. "And you wouldn't happen to be going to Athens, would you?" Calvin added, standing up slowly. 8/29/2010 #8 |
HayashiOkami "Calvin? I'm Lanthanon! You come with me to Athens? Nice place, everyone says. A lot happening soon, you help?" Lanthanon mourned the loss of warmth, but he pulled away and arched his head up towards Calvin. A different warmth unrelated to body temperature bubbled in his chest. Land wasn't so bad after all, if he didn't take into account the fact that he couldn't move very well. There were nice people on land, like demigods and humans. The fish in the sea weren't always the friendliest, even though Lanthanon did like the whales. "Silly, you are not an orphan! But I do not know who is your parent. Mine is Poseidon and Amphitrite, gods of the sea. So you are my brother! Well, sort of my brother. Distantly related, we are," Lanthanon said, nodding his head in affirmation. Since Calvin stood, Lanthanon supposed that they were going to be on their way now and he tried, too. Only, while he now had the energy to stand, his legs protested greatly and he fell on his rump again. Frustrated already, he forced them to rise, though they trembled when he stood. He was dreading the walk. It would have been so much easier just to continue, but he needed to rest from the freshwater. Too much of a good thing was bad, after all. "We go to Athens now?" Lanthanon asked, a little forlorn at the idea. The didn't want to move if it was night. 8/29/2010 #9 |
UchihaKamename "Wait, what are you talking about? Poseidon and Amphitrite... They're just myths. Aren't they?" Calvin was confused. Although, it did make sense. But he was Catholic; he was raised to believe in one God, not many. The fact that Lanthanon was saying that they actually existed went against everything he's ever learned about, all the things he was raised on. So this boy was pretty much saying that all the thing he had been taught had been a lie? "And I am an orphan, my parents abandoned me, I don't even remember them." Calvin thought about it for a moment. It could explain all the weird things that were happening to him, the existence of these gods. It made him wonder, yet again, who his parents could be. He paced around a bit, thinking it over, but his mind just didn't seem to grasp it. Gods, the fact that he could be related to this boy who he had just met, the fact that he had been called to Athens for an unknown reason... It was all too much for him to handle. His head started to ache. All this thinking, trying to accept something that went against everything he had been told and learned throughout his life, was a lie. He never knew what it was like to have parents, but, he thought, it would be pretty nice to know who his parents were. He watched as Lanthanon struggled to stand, which was also quite odd. "Do you need some help, Lanthanon? You look like you're having some trouble," he offered, walking back towards the boy and holding out his hand. Now that they had met and they found out about their common goal, they had to help each other out. 8/29/2010 #10 |
HayashiOkami "Thank you," Lanthanon smiled, accepting the hand and pulling himself up until he could remain in one spot without falling over. Walking would take a bit of getting used to, but he just wanted to find his balance first. He found it strange that Calvin didn't know who he was at all. The gods and goddesses didn't often raise their offspring, but there was no mistaking the scent that marked him a child of the divine. Lanthanon supposed that as being partially human, he wouldn't be able to smell such things. Now that he thought about scents, the world above the water had so many of them that his nose hurt. "Thank you Calvin." "My parents left me too, but I know who they are. I have never seen them. But they are my parents. So I have to go, says the others. Not just stories, they are not just stories. Parents abandoned you, does not mean you have no parents. We go to Athens to help them. You come, right?" Lanthanon grew a little worried. Some demigods didn't really have any obligations to come, but the gods might get angry if their children didn't answer their summons. "Come, gods are bad when they are angry. Very bad. We go?" Lanthanon took an experimental step forward and wobbled until he could stand again. "Not so bad, without my parents. But very lonely, very dark and cold. But gods are very busy. Cannot take care of children, so they leave us. Your parents, I do not know. I only hear of others by name. So I do not know." Lanthanon was growing tired of standing. He stepped forward, but he really didn't know where to go next. But, he still didn't want to leave yet. This was the first time in years that he was able to leave the ocean. "To Greece, how do we go?" 8/29/2010 #11 |
UchihaKamename It was difficult to come to terms with the fact that the gods did exist, and that his parents could be deities. It was to know someone who appeared to be around the same age as himself who has the same problems as him; at the orphanage, all the children were very young and were adopted not long after coming to it. He was the only one who wasn't adopted, and maybe the fact that he was a child of the Gods had something to do with that. "So you're not much different from me, huh. But where are you from? You're not from around here, are you? The fastest way for us to get to Athens, that I can think of, is by plane. I have enough for plane tickets, but..." Calvin's voice trailed off, and he sighed. What have I gotten myself into...? He thought, shaking his head. He also contemplated what Lanthanon had said about the Gods; were they really that cruel, that they would abandon their offspring like that? And what had he meant by it's "very lonely, very dark and cold"? Did his parents leave him in a jail cell or something? It didn't make any sense. "How do you know who your parents are, then? And do you know why we have to go to Athens, exactly? What are we helping the Gods with?" He asked, stepping closer to Lanthanon. The other boy looked exhausted, and he thought that maybe if they took a plane, he would have some time to rest. He again offered to help him, because he saw the other wasn't too excited to be standing, for some reason. He wrapped his arm around the other boy's shoulder in an attempt to steady him. 8/29/2010 #12 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon leaned against the other boy and sighed. What he wanted was to rest his body and voice. Unused to talking, his throat was dry and his words came out raspy. Within a day he would regain his energy, but for now he was pitifully weak. The nights always seemed to leech him of his energy. It was too bad that the freshwater made him weaker after the toxins had sloughed off, because he would appreciate some water right now. "We are like each other, but we are not like each other," Lanthanon said tiredly. Unless Calvin also lived under the ocean...? He shook off the thought. Humans didn't do that. "I come from the Pacific; a very long journey. Tired...I'm tired. I think it is okay though, you are here now!" Lanthanon brightened slightly and smiled. "Not so lonely or cold anymore. Very lonely under the sea. Fish not so great friends. Come and go a lot. Not parents fault; I cannot leave. My duty to stay in the ocean. "Other sea gods, they say my parents are Poseidon and Amphitrite. We all receive call from Hermes' messengers that the war starts soon- Olympians need us in Athens. Father's pull brought me here. Never seen him, but I know his call. He calls all his children of the sea. Not just me, many others. Others that have seen him. But I do not talk to them, cannot. Not allowed. Must stay in my part of the ocean." Lanthanon was ready to collapse. He didn't really care if he had to sleep at the base of a tree. "What is a...a 'plane'? And what is a 'plane ticket'? You have enough for it?" Lanthanon hadn't really heard any gossip exactly, so he hadn't a clue as to what the demigod was talking about. 8/29/2010 . Edited 8/30/2010 #13 |
L.T.TaraMay Maisha was underwater. She floated there, for a moment, savoring the feeling of the cool liquid caressing her body, rocked by the currents all around. She inhaled deeply through her nose, then snorted it out as fast as she could, bubbles coming out. Her eyes flew open, and she thrashed around in a panic. Where was she? Already her lungs were beginning to burn as the adreniline rushed through her veins. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a lighter blue than the midnight colour around her, and she twisted to see what it was. She saw a tiny circle of white light, luminating the blue water above her. It was the moon, filtering down on her through the thousands of gallons of water above her head, a beacon leading her to the surface. She untwist her legs and brought her arms above the mess of her free floating hair, no longer kept around her shoulders by gravity. With slightly curved hands and barely spread fingers, she pulled down, stroking towards the air above. She threw her hands up again, frustratingly slowly due to the thick liquid that surrounded her, suffocating her now. Maisha stroked again, and again. She kept stroking, realizing though, that she wouldnt make it. The surface was still too far away, and she was out of air. She was tired, and her strokes became weaker and weaker as her chest screamed for oxygen, her head pounding with need. She struggled, and gave up, inhaling the water deeply, if she was going to drown, she was going to do it as fast as she could. But the water didn't choke her, didn't fill her lungs with something too solid. Her chest felt a little tight as she exhaled a small group of bubbles. She almost coughed again, but instead breathed, her eyes widening in amazement. She could breathe underwater! What's going on? she asked herself as she felt the pounding in her head fade away. She looked up and saw the moon, still shining away, beckoning her, and she kicked towards the surface. After a few minutes of breathing cautiously and following the moonlight, she broke the water's undisturbed surface. She spluttered as she inhaled both water and air, and her chest ached for a minute until she coughed up all of the water in her lungs. She tasted salt, and looked around. It's pretty calm for the ocean, she thought to herself, looking around at the ever so slight mounds bobbing her up and down delicately. She wiped her nose, annoyed at the seawater dripping off of it, and looked again at the pich black sky. The only thing there was the moon, she couldn't see any stars. Maisha focused on the source of the light that shone down on her, it attracted her like a mother's voice attracts her children. Then she smelled it. The scent, just a faint memory of it that was always at the edge of her mind, was of honeysuckle and soft baby fawns, of mother's milk and oak leaves, all of these different smells at the same time. Maisha closed her eyes and lifted her nose, sucking in the delicious aroma. That's when she heard it. A voice. No, the voice. The voice of someone who was her mother, yet not the mother she knew. "Maisha, child, where are you?" It asked. "Right here," Maisha whispered, looking in awe up at the sky, and the silver moon. "I'm sorry, but you have to leave. You're no longer a babe, so you can help me." "Help?" "Come to Athens, my child. Come and you'll understand why you love your home of Greece." With that, the moon faded, and Maisha's heart felt as if it was torn. As it's brilliance dimmed, she swam frantically towards it, No! don't leave! Maisha was in bed. Drenched in a cold sweat. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, her heart still pounding, and sat up, looking at the clock. 2:15. She felt a sense of urgency to leave, to follow the moon, like in her dream. She could see it's light coming in from her window, and she threw her covers off and lunged to the window, gripping the sill. For some reason, the moon seemed dim to her, the light was strangely different and less beautiful than in her dream. She ran her hand through her long brown hair and closed her eyes, thinking. She had to leave. The thought crossed her mind that she should tell her parents, but the feeling that she had to go was stronger than anything she had ever felt, so stronge that it erased the thought the moment it appeared. She looked around her hotel room, seeing the knapsack she had made years ago from the hide of a deer she had killed. It was partially hidden in the closet, since her mom didn't like that she had it, but the door was open and Maisha could only think what she would need to fill it. She strode over to her purse that she had used in the market the day before, and pulled out her wallet, not bothering to count the money. She then saw the unstrung old fashioned bow in the corner, attached to the quiver, and she put it on her bed. She fetched the knapsack and shoved the wallet in it, then tore open her suitcase and grabbed all of her underwear and bras. They all went into the bag except for one pair of each, which she put on after stripping naked. Then she threw on a cotton tunic and jeans. She took several other tshirts out, and more jeans. They went into the bag. Her swiss army knife. In the bag. her sunglasses. Her tampons. Her iPhone. Then she slung it over her shoulder. She grabbed her bow and the jacket hanging on the closet door. Then she was out the door, in the hotel hallway, down the stairs, out the doors, and jogging for the woods, the cool night air fueling her mind, which wasn't running on anything more than three hours of sleep. On. To... wherever. In that direction. 8/29/2010 #14 |
UchihaKamename The Pacific ocean?! Not any islands, just the ocean itself? Was this boy saying that he had lived in under the ocean?! This day was getting weirder by the minute. Calvin wanted to ask Lanthanon all of the questions that were in his mind, but he saw how tired the other boy was. He must have had a very long and tiring journey, he could tell by the way he clung to him as if he were about to pass out from fatigue. Calvin held onto him and decided to get them to the airport as fast as he could. The flight would give Lanthanon a few hours to recuperate while they arrived in Athens. He had no idea, though, what was in store for them when they got there, but they would find out in a few hours. For now, Calvin walked towards the road to hail a taxi. He decided it would be best that they not talk for now, because clearly Lanthanon wasn't too keen to do doing that right now. "I have a plan. I'll hail a taxi, and it will take us to the airport. We'll catch the next flight to Athens, and that way you can rest and regain your strength. Oh, and by the way, a plane is something that humans use to fly around in. It's the fastest way for them to travel to places that are farther away." Calvin told him hurriedly, pulling him along with him as he began to walk to the street so they could get going. He contemplated what Lanthanon had said about his parents and about his life in the ocean. "I can afford two plane tickets, for you and for me. I have plenty of money, since I've been saving it ever since I was a child." He added. 8/30/2010 #15 |
HayashiOkami "Mhm, need a few hours. Okay I will be once I sleep. Is money what humans drop in the ocean? The shiny stuff...very pretty. Very valuable, I hear," Lanthanon said as he stumbled along. The ground felt strange against his feet, covered only by thin shoes. He was happy that he had found Calvin, though, he was very happy. It was interesting talking to a demigod, to a relative. He just wished that he could talk more. Calvin must have had some questions. He did sound a little disbelieving of the whole situation before. Maybe he didn't recognize Hermes' messenger, Lanthanon thought. They tended to appear without a body since it was easier. "Have some money, I collect it. Pretty, colorful..." Lanthanon reached among his robes and pulled out a thin golden chain with a red gem-pendant attached. It had been someone's once, but that person had been taken by the ocean's cruel hands. It left Lanthanon with some trinkets to play with every now and again. It was all he did when he was younger. "How old are you? Do humans get wings to fly?" Lanthanon asked. He had wings, but he could never use them for flying. It made him a little sad sometimes. But he was happy enough in the water. Lanthanon didn't really know what a taxi was, but he figured that it was something like a horse. The thought of riding one made him groan. "Want song? I sing, pass some time." Lanthanon had the energy to do that much and he figured that he should help his new travel companion somehow. He was paying for their trip on the 'plane' after all. Lanthanon cleared his aching throat and started to hum, not overly satisfied with his human vocal cords. 8/30/2010 #16 |
UchihaKamename Calvin's eyes widened as he saw what Lanthanon had withdrawn from his robes. It was also rather surprising that, although he was clearly dead tired, the other boy had plenty of energy to talk and socialize. If Calvin were in Lanthanon's place, he would probably have refrained from talking at all, or even passed out from exhaustion. Calvin eyed the pendant, assessing how much it could possibly be worth if he decided to quickly stop at a pawn shop and sell it... "That's not money, but it would definitely be worth a lot if we were to sell it, you know. This is money, what humans use to buy things like that necklace with..." Calvin explained, taking some of the Euro banknotes from his pocket and showing them to Lanthanon. "I'm seventeen. And you? You look like you could be my age. And, unfortunately, if humans had wings they wouldn't need planes." Calvin replied. He was a bit perturbed by the many questions that the boy was asking him, and he became perplexed when the other started humming. "You know, I think it would be best if we stopped talking now." Calvin said, trying not to sound like he was being rude. "You really do seem very tired, so you should try to conserve your energy. When you're well rested then you can sing, alright?" He said kindly, leading them to the side of the road and hailing a taxi. The car drove up and the driver opened the door for them, and Calvin lead Lanthanon over, motioning for him to sit first. 8/31/2010 #17 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon frowned as he slid into the seat of the car and settled against the opposite door. Though he was tired and it hurt him to talk, he hadn't spoken to anyone except for fish for a long time and he rather missed interacting with land creatures. "Mhm, I sing later. You can have," he said, holding out the golden chain. He did have a rather large collection underwater. He didn't see the purpose in paper money since it tended to melt away in the water, but humans didn't always make sense. Why else would they dump trash into the ocean? And they got mad when a tsunami hit... "Eighteen?" Lanthanon echoed once he'd curled up in the corner. Land certainly had nicer sleeping arrangements than the ocean. "I'm...fifty? Sixty?" He hadn't been eighteen in a long time. He was still tiny back then, still a child. Humans and demigods aged differently, he knew. Calvin didn't act like he was young, not like when Lanthanon had been that age. He matured slower, he supposed. A lot slower. "I can rest now?" Lanthanon mumbled, hugging his legs to his chest. He said it more to himself than anything. It wasn't always safe to sleep wherever he wanted, but he trusted Calvin. He did wake up rather easily anyways. 8/31/2010 . Edited 8/31/2010 #18 |
UchihaKamename Calvin nodded slowly, also feeling himself getting drowsy. "I'd love to hear you sing, but later, when we're both rested," he said with a small smile, resting his head against the window after the door had been closed. "And thanks for this, but you don't think you could use it later?" Calvin asked, perplexed. It didn't happen everyday that someone just handed you a piece of jewelry that could possibly be worth thousands of Euros. He took it reluctantly, seeing that the other boy was very tired and was clearly savoring the idea of sleeping, noting his position in resting against the opposite door. Calvin quickly told the taxi driver to get them to the airport, and he complied, starting up the car and driving speedily down the road. The ride would last some forty-five minutes, especially in the traffic. He almost missed it when Lanthanon had said that he was fifty or sixty years old. However, he saw that the other was practically asleep, so he held his tongue and decided to rest his eyes, instead of pestering the boy with more questions. He would ask him later, when Lanthanon was awake and would mind him asking. One of us has to be awake when we get there... He thought grudgingly, trying to keep himself awake. It was odd how he had become so tired, so suddenly. Granted, it was around one thirty in the morning, which explained a lot. He opened his eyes again and kept them open, since he felt it was his duty now to make sure that they arrived safely. After almost an hour, they arrived at the airport and Calvin nudged Lanthanon to wake him, and quickly paid the cab fare. 8/31/2010 #19 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon had fallen asleep almost immediately after Calvin stopped talking to him. The bumps in the road were remeniscent of the ocean's current, so the only thing he minded was his head being bounced against the hard door. When he closed his eyes he dreamt of darkness and water, of sleek bodies he couldn't see passing by and pitch-black underwater caverns that echoed with water droplets. Lanthanon blinked wearily when he felt Calvin nudge him and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. However long he had been asleep recharged him enough so that he felt refreshed. It would last a few good hours or until he could take a longer rest and become fully functional again. For the moment, however, he felt fine. Fine enough to slip from the car and land on his feet without swaying too much or falling over again. Even though he was rested, he still needed to find his balance on two human feet. The place they were at smelled strongly of wind and humans. The strong stench of them made his nose hurt and it was so loud inside that he wouldn't be able to navigate easily. His eyes could see blurred forms at most, so he stuck close to Calvin. It wouldn't do to get lost here. Demigods were rather lucky that they didn't have such sensitive noses, he thought. 8/31/2010 #20 |
UchihaKamename Calvin grabbed onto Lanthanon's arm to keep them from getting separated, steering the both of them to the ticket counter. Luckily, the flight was not completely full, so they easily bought the tickets for the 3 o'clock flight. Calvin had never been on a plane before, either, so both of them would be experiencing something new today. He pushed his way through the crowds and onto the line to get their boarding passes. Thankfully there weren't too many people on the line, so the wait was quick. Somehow, when Calvin reached into his pocket, he found two small burgundy booklets that said Unione européenne République française, passeport on them. He opened them up, and there on the second pages were both their pictures. It was strange, yet cool; he assumed the gods must have provided them with these... Five minutes later, they were on their way through security, and Calvin finally had his hands free, having given his suitcase to be packed away onto the plane. They went through security rather quickly, too, then to the gates where they waited a couple of minutes to board. Finally, after waiting for about a half hour, they got onto the plane and they could finally sit down in the seats and relax for the two and half hours it would take for them to get to Greece. It was already 2:45, and it would be about 5:15 in the morning when they got to Athens. That would probably give them a decent amount of rest. Calvin led Lanthanon to two seat next to a window and motioned for the other boy to sit down first. 8/31/2010 #21 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon went dizzy going here and there among so many humans. Everything was so complicated, just to travel. His way, through the rivers, would have been easier...if he didn't get so drained from swimming in freshwater. Calvin was there, so it was okay as long as he reminded himself to stay close. The unnatural lights hurt his eyes though, and he found himself squinting and shutting them on more than one occasion. When they finally made it to the...whatever it was that was going to fly them to Greece, he sighed in relief and slid into the chair. For the moment, he wasn't as tired as he had been before, but he figured that Calvin wanted to rest badly. "Are you sure this can fly?" Lanthanon asked, looking around the huge metal compartment. The thing had looked heavy and was as big as some of the whales, so he couldn't see how it could fly. Unless it had hollow bones? It wasn't alive and that made him skittish. Human submarines were an oddity to him, too. He liked to steer clear of those, just incase they shone their too bright lights on him. He craned his head towards Calvin and asked, "Calvin is tired? We sleep more?" 8/31/2010 #22 |
UchihaKamename Calvin was extremely tired, but he couldn't help but laugh at Lanthanon's questions. He must not have been used to all the things that humans have created and used, Calvin wondered why this was so. He looked at the other boy for a moment and wondered, if he was from the ocean, that means he could breath under water. But he didn't have gills, so it didn't make any sense. He sighed and leaned back on the chair, reclining it a bit to make it more comfortable. "Despite the fact that this plane weighs thousands of tonnes, it can actually fly very well. It has an engine and propellers..." Calvin pointed out the window in an attempt to explain. But he was tired, so he didn't manage very well, since his voice trailed off. Sighing again, he couldn't help but rest his head lightly on Lanthanon's shoulder; it was honestly a lot more comfortable than the back of the chair, although it was rather bony. He didn't care if it was awkward, he just wanted to sleep. 8/31/2010 #23 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon smiled and sighed, reclining a bit and drawing his legs up onto the chair without shifting Calvin too much from his place. When he woke again, surely he would have enough energy to function properly, instead of being stuck in this half-tired state. As long as he could trust this metal thing not to fall out of the sky, he would be dead to the world for awhile. According to Calvin, this wasn't liable to happen soon. He didn't understand what propellers were, but he knew that an engine was what made some boats move. They worked pretty good, so he had some peace of mind. As he closed his eyes and lulled himself to sleep with one of the many lullabies that he used to amuse himself with, he gently rested his head against Calvin's. Really, he didn't feel so rushed to get to Athens, but he wondered whether or not Calvin would be missed. Humans took notice of each other more than the fish did. If he never returned to the ocean again, they probably wouldn't care. 8/31/2010 #24 |
L.T.TaraMay Maisha didn't know where she was. But it didn't bother her. She felt a pull southward towards the peloponnesus, but she wasn't sure exactly where she was going. All she knew about her situation was that she needed to find a way across the mountains in front of her. She looked upwards toward the peaks, and scrutinized the rocks for places to get over them. She had seen a map of these mountains before, and knew that they were actually quite small, even if they were a daunting sight from where she stood. As long as she could find a place to cross, she would be over them in about an hour. She started jogging to the west, keeping an eye on the mountains, and soon heard the sounds of people, something she had been missing since the highway she crossed a couple of hours ago. She hurried towards the sound and soon emerged from the trees to see a train station. As she came closer, she realized there was a small mining town on the other side of the tracks, and saw men lined up with pick up trucks full of what she assumed was coal or some other kind of stone. Oh. Well she could always just use regular kinds of transportation. The thought hadn't crossed her mind that the whole human population was out looking for her, Her parents probably hadn't even noticed she was gone yet. No need to be paranoid. Maisha strode into the station and over to one of the ticket desks, trying to look like she belonged and wasn't just a kid who ran away from home. "Well you're a fresh face, what can I do for you?" the elderly woman behind the counter greeted her once she was noticed. "When does the next train leave?" Maisha asked her, putting on her most polite smile. "Why, in an hour, or, really once all of the cargo is loaded. It's supposed to arrive in twenty minutes, but the conductor on it is always a little late. I can't imagine how, since he's been given the fastes train around to get to place to place, but I suppose he has his own way of running things..." Maisha inturrupted what she felt was going to become a long monologue; "May I buy a ticket, please?" "Oh! well, this train doesnt normally carry passengers, but it does have a car... I suppose we could work something out with the conductor, okay, sweetie?" Maisha smiled and nodded encouragingly. She felt the pull southward grow stronger as she prepared to wait for the train. This is going to take forever she thought. 8/31/2010 #25 |
UchihaKamename Calvin slept rather peacefully, waking up a few minutes before the plane was supposed to land. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and tried to recall the events that happened several hours ago. He had gotten a message from some bodiless being telling him to go to Athens, then he met Lanthanon, and apparently the two of them were destined to meet and travel together. Then they had gotten on a plane after Calvin found two passports in his pocket, and now he was sitting in said plane, on his way to Athens. He could barely grasp the fact that just a few hours ago he had turned eighteen and left his normal life for this new life, and he didn't know what would happen when he got to Athens. It was exciting, but at the same time, kind of frightening because he had no idea what was in store for him. He had just recently, too, learned that he is part god! It was absurd, but it actually made sense at the same time. He felt that Lanthanon was resting his head on his, so he tried to slip his head out gently and rest the other's head on his shoulder without waking him. With that said, it wasn't that easy, but he managed. He decided to look out the window at the clouds; it was actually starting to get light outside, so he leaned over and quietly closed the shutter so the light would not wake Lanthanon. Sighing again, he leaned against the chair, this time fully awake after just about two hours of sleep. The pilot announced that they would be landing in a few minutes. 8/31/2010 #26 |
HayashiOkami Lanthanon stirred from his slumber spent dreaming about the clear light of rivers instead of the dark black of the ocean. The strange robotic voice of a human, without the actual body, startled him from his sleep completely. Once he'd deemed it safe enough, he relaxed and allowed himself to recollect his thoughts. He had a lot more energy now and the life probably showed in his eyes, useless as they were. He turned to Calvin and was glad that the demigod looked rested. Whatever preparations were going on in Athens, it was going to be big. Lanthanon wasn't sure how big, but that was the feeling he got. "Calvin is okay now? Not tired anymore?" Lanthanon said excitedly. He felt no real excitement for actually being in Greece. This was the home of his parents, but he felt no pull towards it. As a god, he was more concerned about his original home than elsewhere. 8/31/2010 #27 |
UchihaKamename Calvin turned to Lanthanon when he heard him stirring and, sure enough, the boy was waking up and seemed to be well rested, as well. He actually looked pretty excited, Calvin had to say. It was a little odd, though, for someone to be excited even though one doesn't know what will come soon. Eh, it's all good. Don't worry about it, Calvin. Relax, you'll be fine. He thought, trying to dispel the little feelings of nervousness and dread. "Yeah, I'm actually fine now. No need to worry. And you, you seem wide awake. You must have slept well." Calvin said, chuckling. Now that neither of them were tired, it was way more enjoyable to be in each other's company. Not that it wasn't enjoyable to begin with, because it was fun being around Lanthanon, but it was a lot better now that they could both think clearly and not ramble about nonsense. The other boy was very friendly, but for some reason, he seemed a bit awkward to Calvin. He couldn't pinpoint exactly, but Lanthanon seemed a bit repressed, as if he hadn't been around people in a while. He had mentioned something about fish and living in the ocean... "Lanthanon, can you tell me exactly where you're from? You said you were from the Pacific, but do you mean you actually lived in the water? Like a sea creature?" Calvin asked him, raising an eyebrow. He really was curious to know more about the other boy, since he had a feeling that they would become good friends. Heck, they were already getting close and becoming fast friends, but they should at least know about each other's personal lives because they weren't exactly strangers anymore. 8/31/2010 #28 |
L.T.TaraMay Maisha had started to doze while waiting for the train, which was twenty five minutes late. As soon as it stopped, she jumped up, now completely awake (as if anyone could sleep through that noise?) and got the nice lady from the ticket counter. While she had waited, the lady had rambled on for a while and Maisha had learned her name was Edna. She was from southern Greece and had four grandchildren, who she obsessed about endlessly. The conductor, Mr. Francoise, was a gruff middle aged man who obviously liked being in charge. After Edna explained what Maisha wanted to do, he let her get on, and after forty five minutes of leg jiggling while the men of the village loaded their goods, she was off. Maisha had thought that she would sleep on the long train ride, but the excitement and relief that she was finally moving towards her destination, wherever it was, kept her eyes open. She spent the ride egging the train on, pushing it faster in her mind. 8/31/2010 . Edited 8/31/2010 #29 |
HayashiOkami "I had a good sleep," Lanthanon nodded, kicking out his legs. They didn't feel so strange anymore. Certainly not like his bulky legs in his other form. Hands and arms were a lovely addition, too. "And of course I live in water! Born in water, always lived there. Underwater, way down below the surface. No light there, that is why I'm pale. Why I cannot see anymore. Eyes too light. I live with all the others; the fish, the whales, the sharks, the dolphins...Not very social-sociable. Can't speak underwater, can only sing. I can sing for you now? "I'm a beast of the sea. I calm storms sometimes, only time when I go above water. But humans think I cause storms. Humans are scared of me. I really do not make storms, I promise!" Lanthanon said, his voice turning frantic as he revealed more about himself. He wasn't good with talking; he hadn't talked to humans in so long and he didn't want to mess it up. Calvin was nice, but he was raised humans. Sometimes humans didn't like the gods. Demigods had reasons to dislike their parents for abandoning them when beings like Lanthanon did not. He couldn't stay angry at many people, no matter how hard he tried. Then again, that might have been just because he had never had anything to be so mad about before. "I calm storms for humans, even though they put toxins in my home. Even though I get weak. It hurts. It hurts a lot." Lanthanon leaned back and nibbled at his bottom lip, a hand clutched over his chest instictively. He was used to that area burning no matter how cold the water was. The freshwater washed it away, of course, but he could remember it all the same. 8/31/2010 #30 |
