Also you're American, yeah? The fuck is homecoming?

First dance of the year in high school -- usually it's around September or October.

Edit: I like the shape, but I would not wear that dress. Black dresses look rather funereal on pretty much everyone. Also they mention glitter in the text and ew.

Everyone wears black. It's bizarre.

And I'm talking about 75% of the cohort have fully or mostly black dresses.

ed: Actually, I probably wouldn't wear it either, looking closer. Waistlines like that make me look weirdly top heavy, which is fairly impressive considering.

4/17/2012 . Edited 4/17/2012 #5,192

That is really weird.

Black can look pretty good if you have darker skin, but if you're pale it can make you look janky and... overdressed for a formal occasion.

Do you happen to have a picture of yourself handy? (It'd be easier for me to creep dresses if I could get a sense of your hair color n shit.)

4/17/2012 #5,193

I don't think I've got one.

Lemme check.

4/17/2012 #5,194

I think this is adorable, but a little plunge-y:

In the vernacular, I believe it's called queer-eyeing :V

4/17/2012 #5,197

So this is legitimately the most recent photo I have of myself that I'm not derping out or with the sun behind me:

ed: Scratch that, there's this one:

Also note my hair is waaaay longer now.

This might suit you (I like white, I admit). I'd pair it with a loose updo and dangly earrings if you have any -- preferably cubic zirconia or something else that matches the jewely trim. (This helps bring the gaze from your glittery neckline up the earrings to your face.)

Also, man, why are strapless dresses still in? :C

Maddie y u so pretty. :3
4/17/2012 #5,200

Also whee this website has a sort by price option.

I'm a cheapskate, woo.

4/17/2012 #5,201

Aw man, I see flapper dresses in there. No, no, no. They're super pretty but you have to have a very boyish figure to pull them off, I feel (and that was the style with them the first time around -- I've heard that some women bound their breasts to look more androgynous in their short skirts). The flaring "new look" skirts are much more flattering to most people.

Nathan, you can do everything!
4/17/2012 #5,203

Anyone like this one? Cheaper, but cute.

Also I kind of like the colour.

4/17/2012 . Edited 4/17/2012 #5,204

That is adorable. I was never much on bubble skirts, but I like it.

Color's nice too.

4/17/2012 #5,205

I'm kind of stuck being a bit cheap with the dress because a) I have no nice shoes and they might end up expensive and also b) I might end up paying between 160 and 220 bucks just to go.

4/17/2012 #5,206

It is absolutely fine to be cheap with the dress -- I really don't get people in high school dropping mad cash on dresses that they wear to one dance in high school.

Also, re. shoes: if you can walk in heels I'd use a pair with relatively small heels, a couple shades darker than the dress. If you can't, flats of some sort. (I would wear flats, again, a couple shades darker than the dress. Or maybe red -- I like red.)

I really like the dress shown above. I had actually bookmarked it weeks ago in case I were ever to be asked to a dance.
4/17/2012 #5,208

If I get that dress, I'd probably end up with black flats because I can't walk let alone dance in heels.

ed: Apparently this dress comes in black on white. Hmm.

4/17/2012 . Edited 4/17/2012 #5,209

Yeah, I could only ever manage heeled boots. My ankles are for shit.

(I have so many pairs of cute shoes ;a; But the pair I like most are not at all good for walking in, and I spend a lot of time on my feet. And I cling to dressing very plainly because I am somehow convinced it helps me pass. I miss you, brown leather boots.)

Ahem. I would go with a dark grey rather than black for the flats with that dress.

Edit: The black/white would be cute :3 With that, black flats would work really well.

Hey, I have like three and a bit months.

Also, thanks for being my shopping buds. My mum won't go shopping IRL and if I'm trawling around online for ages she gets irritated, so it helps to have a shortlist. :3

4/17/2012 #5,211

I actually fucking love dresses n shit :V

(Ironically I'm not at all confident in the way that I dress. Plaid and jeans all the time.)

4/17/2012 #5,212

I usually just slop around in tshirt and jeans. Occasionally I branch out. But not often.

Hey, I'm stuck in school uniform most of the time.

ed: Which reminds me. I have a music performance, for assessment. On Friday. Which requires me to dress up.

For most people that's dresses, but I play the cello, so...pants it is.

4/17/2012 . Edited 4/17/2012 #5,213

Yeah, t-shirt and jeans for me.

Also, hang on just a minute. I gotta put my mind to rest.

4/17/2012 #5,214

Oop. Just read the sizing guide.

Apparently American sizes are significantly different to Australian ones. I always wondered how someone could feasibly be a size 2.

Because that's a six in Australia.

Which makes me and American size 4.

The fuckkkk.

4/17/2012 #5,215

I think I wore a 4 womens last time I wore lady pants.

Right now I wear basically the smallest men's size before you go over to children's, though :\ Fucking short legs.

St. Elsewhere

I'm just going to slide awkwardly in here to say that my sister is all up in arms over her formal dress.

4/17/2012 #5,217

Thatalwaysconfused me.

I'm usually an 8 or a 10 in pants (that'd be a 4 or a 6 American). Tops, who the hell knows.

This is so weird.

I'm just going to slide awkwardly in here to say that my sister is all up in arms over her formal dress.

Not surprised. Formal is even worse than Semiformal.

And I'm fairly calm compared to people I know.

4/17/2012 . Edited 4/17/2012 #5,218

Into has a sister? Whoa ono

Also vanity sizing can just go fuck itself. It is the worst.

4/17/2012 #5,219

I hate sizes. To be honest, in the last year, I've bought things in size 6, 8 and 10, a small, a medium, and extra small, and a sixteen and a fourteen in girls sizes.

That's got to be bad.
