Vynn-

"We're here!"

There was a thud, and I opened my eyes suddenly. I'd been dozing. It was late afternoon, and the sun was low on the horizon. We were in a fallow field, and beyond some brush was a wide dirt road heading to Belisaere. Not one of the heavily-travelled Royal Roads - we couldn't risk having someone see us hide our Paperwing. We disguised the aircraft as usual, and then set off through the brush for the road.

"Hope we make it before dark," remarked Iselli. "We ought to, but still..."

I nodded. I didn't know what it was, but I had a bad feeling about what we were going to do. And I could tell, so did Iselli.

We entered the Sea of Saere just as the sun began to sink below the horizon. Several of the guards had gathered at the side of the ship to watch the sunset - it was always pretty spectacular over the sea, or so they said. I'd never really been that fond of sunsets. Which was why I was rather annoyed when the Lieutenant gestured for me to come over to the group and watch it too. It was quite boring.

We arrived at the dock a few minutes before the sun completely set, and there was another group of guards already waiting to help unload the supplies and everything. The Lieutenant made a point of personally escorting me off the ship, once I'd collected my pack from my cabin, and then started leading me through the semi-crowded docks towards the palace, accompanied by a couple other guards.

'The Captain will see you as soon as we get there,' one of the guards explained as she nimbly dodged a couple of passing people.

'Thank you,' I replied, nodding slightly. I was very pleased with how things had turned out so far, but I forced myself to keep a straight face.

Iselli-

The sun was setting as we hurried through the city, all the way to Palace hill. It was just getting dark when we reached the gate. I knew from my previous visits the the capital that often there was a line of people outside the gates, on important - or not so important - business. But right now there was nobody else there. I realize it was because of the rather late hour.

"Sorry," said one of the Royal Guards stationed at the entrance we approached. "No more visitors or meetings today."

"Not even on urgent business?" I snapped, lowering my hood. "I am Iselli of the Clayr. This is Vynn of the Clayr."

The guards gulped. "Oh - of course," said the guard. "You'll be wanting to see the King, then?"

"Just tell him that we have important information about someone who is trying to frame the Abhorsen," I said. "We shall wait here, at his disposal, if he wishes to see us."

The guard bowed, and snapped his fingers; one of the junior guards took off running.

I turned to Vynn, and we walked a few steps away from the gate. "What now?" she asked, glancing at the guards.

I shrugged. "We wait."

My meeting with the Captain hadn't taken very long at all. He'd just wanted to meet me, ask me a few questions, and see the evidence I'd brought. He seemed to be convinced by the forged diary entry too, which I was pleased - and slightly relieved - about.

'Right,' he said, standing up and shaking my hand. 'I will get a message to the King about this, and I will try and arrange for you to speak with him tomorrow.'

I nodded and gave him a smile. 'Thank you. And - there is something else, too.'

The Captain looked at me. 'What?'

'Two of the Clayr tried to attack me just as I was boarding the ship to come here,' I explained. 'I'm not sure why, but I'm pretty sure they wanted to stop me for some reason. One of them was called Vynn, but I don't know about the other one. I'm... a little worried that they might come here and try to find me again.'

The Captain nodded. 'Do not worry. We will make sure you are well protected here.'

I nodded gratefully, waited for the Captain to leave, and then the Leiutenant actually offered me his arm to lead me out of the room. I smiled at him, but politely refused. I really wasn't interested in all of that stuff. I was quite capable of leaving the room by myself.

(OOC: Now, which Clayr do I want to keep RPing? Hmm...)

Vynn-

We were waiting rather long. I hated waiting. The guards milled around the gate, some glancing at us, some smiling - they were rather cute, too - and still nothing was happening. I began to pace, letting my eyes roam around. I really had a bad feeling. It wasn't the same feeling I'd had in Callibe, though. Almost as if...

I stopped and squinted. Two uniformed Royal Guards coming down the road towards us. I turned. And from the other side of the road - two more guards. We were being cornered. "Iselli?" I said nervously.

The older Clayr nodded. "I see it. They're going to try to take us quietly."

I casually moved to stand with my back to Iselli, roughly facing one of the pairs of guards, while keeping an eye on that crowd at the gate. We had our work cut out for us, no mistake. "Damn Sorienne," I muttered.

I could see the two Clayr, waiting on the path. I wondered briefly if they had Seen our plans, but for now they didn't look like they suspected anything. Then, one of them started moving, just casually, but I could see a slight hint of nervousness on her face. She was moving around behind the other Clayr, so they were practically back-to-back. Maybe they had Seen something after all. Still, there were too many of us for them to take.

Montioning for the other guards to stay where they were - for now - I straightened up and walked towards the two women.

'Iselli and Vynn of the Clayr, is that correct?' I asked.

Vynn-

"Yes," said Iselli neutrally. I kept my face blank; I had told Sorienne my name. Was I an idiot?

"What do you want?" Iselli was saying.

'I understand that you tried to attack a woman who is under protection of the Guard,' I said. 'May I ask what your reasons were for this attack?'

2/2/2011 #9
Sanaryelle

Vynn-

"That was me," I said firmly, ignoring Iselli's warning look. "The Clayr have Seen that a woman, Sorienne, who used to be the Royal Guard, must be stopped in her actions against the Abhorsen. The woman under your protection is Sorienne."

~Aedyn~

I frowned. I had caught a glimpse of the woman who had arrived on the boat. 'I think I would know my sister if I saw her,' I replied firmly.

2/2/2011 #11
Sanaryelle

Vynn-

His sister?

"That's because she's wearing a glamour," Iselli insisted, hiding her shock admirably.

I held my hands still at my sides, trying not to instinctively reach for my weapons. The situation was tense, but maybe this man (Charter, Sorienne's brother) would listen to us...

~Aedyn~

'I will have you know,' I said levelly, 'that people who are going under a glamour look a little odd out of the corner of your eye. The Captain has had enough training to be able to notice when someone is using a glamour, and he has been speaking with that woman just recently. He did not notice anything odd about her.'

2/2/2011 #13
Sanaryelle

Vynn-

"Well, maybe she's very good at it," I said, narrowing my eyes. "Or maybe it's not a full glamour - I don't know. All I know is what I Saw."

2/2/2011 #14
Fishy Biscuits

~Aedyn~

'And what exactly was that?' I asked. These two Clayr weren't convincing me at all. The Captain was very good at his job, and he had found nothing suspicious about this Vanelle woman at all. I trusted his judgement.

Vynn-

I faltered. How could you explain the way the Sight worked to somebody who did not have it? But Iselli was looking at me expectantly, so I would have to try. "I saw Callibe," I said finally. "I saw Sorienne - in the guise she has now. She was boarding a boat, on some terrible purpose. And I was following her, and -" - she killed me.

2/2/2011 #16
Fishy Biscuits

~Aedyn~

'And what 'terrible purpose' would you be meaning?' I asked, folding my arms.

2/2/2011 #17
Sanaryelle

Vynn-

"I don't know," I said impatiently. I saw that my answer hadn't impressed the guard. "That's not how the Sight works," I insisted. "You get - feelings, sometimes. Convictions. It's difficult to explain."

2/2/2011 #18
Fishy Biscuits

~Aedyn~

I frowned even more. 'So, you are trying to tell me that you have a feeling that a woman who is being tracked by the King's Messenger - who has been ordered to burn off her Charter mark - has decided to walk right into Belisaere, under the noses of the guards, and has managed to remain undetected?'

2/2/2011 #19
Sanaryelle

Vynn-

"No," I said through gritted teeth. "I Saw that she would take a ship from Callibe. Her walking into Belisaere undetected is your fault, not mine."

(OOC: You know what? I like Vynn.)

2/2/2011 #20
Fishy Biscuits

(OOC: Does that mean that Iselli's going to die then?)

~Aedyn~

'And how exactly do you know that it was my sister that you Saw?' I asked. 'Do you have any proof that the woman who arrived on the ship this evening is really Sorienne?'

2/2/2011 #21
Sanaryelle

(OOC: Or... she could get wounded enough to get sent back to the Glaicer. :P)

Vynn-

"You don't need proof when you have the Sight," I said stubbornly. Beside me, Iselli let out a quiet sigh. I knew I wasn't doing much good by antagonizing this man, but why was he asking for proof? We were the Clayr, a Charter Bloodline - and he was just a measly guard.

(OOC: Good point. :P)

~Aedyn~

'I'm afraid, then, that I cannot let you into the palace,' I said. 'Especially given that you have already attacked this woman. I will have to ask you to leave.'

2/2/2011 #23
Sanaryelle

Vynn-

"You're not going to see us?" I said in surprise.

Iselli put her hand on my arm, but I ignored her. "Do you know what we've been through? What I've been through? Do you even know what will happen? No, of course not - you don't have the Sight."

"Vynn," said Iselli warningly.

(OOC: I have to go now - lecture time! *headdesk* Will you be on again later?)

~Aedyn~

'If you would be so kind as to tell me what will happen,' I said sternly. 'Then I might reconsider. But so far, all you have told me is that you have a feeling that Sorienne has managed to fool an entire boat-load of guards for three whole days. Which, clever as my sister is, is a pretty far-fetched claim.'

2/2/2011 #25
Sanaryelle

(OOC: Maybe. I have to prep a Chem lesson tomorrow, but I may be on during the day, or in the afternoon.)

Vynn-

"Who are you to question us anyway?" I burst out angrily. "We are the Clayr, on equal footing with the King, and we would like an audience with him."

2/2/2011 #26
Fishy Biscuits

(OOC: Ooh, preping a Chemistry lesson... Your day sounds so exciting! :P)

~Aedyn~

'The King is not taking audiences with anybody else until tomorrow,' I said firmly. 'But, as you are the Clayr, I will have someone tell him that you are here.'

I nodded to a more junior guard - the same one who had delivered a smilar message to me just a few minutes ago - and she took off quickly to find the King. After several minutes, during which one of the Clayr waited patiently and the other practically glared at me, the guard returned and whispered to me. I nodded, then looked back at the two women.

'The King has said that, since you have attacked someone under protection of the Guard, you are to be apprehended.' I drew my sword slowly. 'I believe that means that he won't see you.'

Iselli-

Vynn and I took a step back, and the other woman glanced at me for instruction. I was glad she hadn't outright attacked the guard; it wouldn't have been very diplomatic. I did some quick thinking; if we were apprehended, no doubt the Clayr would see that we were released. However, Sorienne was in Belisaere now, and although I had sent a message to the Glacier, only Vynn and I were here and able to do anything about it. At this point, we couldn't afford to be apprehended.

I nodded at Vynn, and the Ranger drew her sword and offered it to me. I shook my head, and took one of her long knives.

"Apprehended?" I said, facing the guard as Vynn covered my back. I could hear the two pairs of guards on the street stepping closer. "I think not."

~Aedyn~

I took a step closer to the two Clayr, raising my sword to the gurd position. 'You can come quietly, if you put away your weapons,' I said calmly. 'Or we can do this the hard way.'

2/2/2011 #29
Sanaryelle

(OOC: Just to let you know, I'm a bit drunk right now.)

Iselli-

"The hard way?" I repeated with a twisted smile. "What are you going to do - attack me? You know this -" I held up my dagger, "- is not match for your sword. Not very honourable of you."
