So as not to clutter the Recommended Stories thread this is were you can place your manga recommendations.
Please post the tittle, link (if any) and general summary/reason why you think the manga deserves more love! XD (Avoid H ones please XP)
Please note that this is a recommendation thread. While discussions are okay do not clutter this tread on why you hate a manga. Make a new thread for that :X
Anyway to start off this is mine:
Majo no Shinzou:
It is story about a girl turned immortal against her will and her journey to finally end her life while keeping her humanity despite it all. It is still short but good and bittersweet story.8/26/2012 #1
On the subject of H-material - Considering that we must be familiar with Fate/Stay Night, I think it's very unlikely that no-one will not recommend anything. So lets have some ground rules on them,
NO DIRECT LINKING to H-STUFF !!!
Feel free to mention the name, if necessary explain how others might get access to it and ... be tact in explaining WHY you like it. Remember this is a public board and we don't want FF admins calling the ban-hammer on us needlessly.
As for recs, I'll need to rummage my lists to find something worthwhile ...
Here are a few stories that I think not enough people are reading...
Magi - Labyrinth of Magic (
Summary (from MangaFox): Aladdin is a boy who has set out to explore the world after being trapped in a room for most of his life, with his best friend, a djinn named Ugo who is trapped within a flute. Soon enough, Aladdin discovers that he is a Magi, a magician who chooses kings. He was born to choose a king who would follow a righteous path, battling against those who want to destroy fate. Now he has to meet others and fight to keep the balance of the world in check!
It's a fantastic shounen manga, that has several interesting if cliche characters, great art, a fantastical and magical setting shounen fights while speaking about your emotions afterwards during a flashback.
AKB49 - Renai Kinshi Jouretsu (
Summary (from Mangareader): This manga based on the ever popular AKB48 group. This series is about a guy called Urakawa Minoru crossdressing as a girl to participate in a female idol group audition (akb48). The main objective is to help the girl he likes, Yoshinaga Hiroko, pass the audition. Yoshinaga Hiroko's dream is to become like her favourite idol who is in the akb48 group. This audition happens to be her final try, so Minoru crossdresses as Minori and took part in the audition to make sure she realizes her dream. Hiroko got qualified eventually, however, the shocking news was Minoru was qualified as well. Thus, the road to becoming a female idol begins...
Okay stay with me now. This to some, or most, of you may seem like an odd manga but I guarantee you that at the very least it's entertaining. You may think that the writers would use this sort of plot as nothing more than a fanservice-y advertisement to sell CDs, yet AKB49 is a charming and epic ( manga that seems to fit with Bakuman in such that it shows the path and the dreams of an idol.
The World God Only Knows (
Summary (from Mangareader): Katsuragi Keima is known on the net as the god of getting the girls while in real life he's known as otamegane and he hates all real girls. However he is approached by Erushii, a devil from hell, to help her in catching runaway spirits that hide in people. Apparently the spirits only hide in the hearts of girls and the only way to get the souls out is by making the girl fall in love so the spirit gets forced out. And he's not allowed to fail or he will lose his head.
The World God Only Knows is a hilarious and heartwarming story that follows Keima as he does his best to capture the hearts of many girls. I can't explain how much I enjoy this manga, you need to read it.
Three of my current favorite manga.8/26/2012 . Edited 8/27/2012 #3
Would Sora No Otoshimono count as H manga?8/26/2012 #4
A fairytale for the demon lord
this is really complicated it is sort of like nose mythology where magic is computer code. Then it apparently follows the standard tale of knight rescues princess and they fall in love... then it gets confusing. the ending is epic I can't wait for the sequel8/26/2012 #5
I think we can consider that one as just ecchi. MangaReader is still hosting it, so it should be fine. What's so great about it anyway? If I remember, it's about some girl who comes from the sky and calls the protagonist God or something, right? Or am I mixing up my story-lines?
chronodekar: I think you are mixing it a little with "World Only God Knows" It is a little hard to explain what it is about, through is not really the kind of manga to take seriously at every page but it does has a plotline and can get serious but tend to move slowly.8/26/2012 . Edited 8/26/2012 #7
Actually, I know the summary for WODK quite well. A demon or something contacts the protagonist (a 2D love-game expert) and asks for his help to "exorcise" spirits from the hearts of young girls. Only way to do it, is to make them fall for him. Haven't read it myself yet, but it's on my to-read list.
SNO, on the other hand ... I have this strong feeling that I did read a bit of it before, but I can't quite remember why I dropped it (if at all, or did I just get distracted?)
chronodekar: I see then i wish you a good time reading WOGK as it is pretty good.
As for SNO, maybe you did read it before but forget about it because update rate of chapters are pretty slow?8/26/2012 #9

Akame Ga Kiru.
Shingeki no Kyojin.
Both are perfectly utilized tragedies in Shounen. Bloody and gorey, has a certain 'deepness' that other manga don't have especially the second.8/26/2012 #11

Pokemon adaptions of the pokemon games, not anime. Follow the Pokedex Bearers as they travel through the wonderful, and slightly traumatizing world of pokemon. (Land Sharks, Giant Snakes, Dragons, oh my.)
Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou - Monster girl manga. Borderline H manga.
Three years ago, the world came to know of the existence of humanoid beast creatures after the government decided to stop hiding their existence from the world. It was decided that they would be integrated into human society, and thus the "Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill" was created. Since then, the cultural exchange program became a huge success helping many species integrate into human society.Kurusu Kimihito is a volunteer (?) in this exchange program who has been given a Lamia (Snake Girl) named Miia to take care of. After spending some time together, Miia has fallen in love with Kurusu, which isn't a bad thing per-say. However, there is a stipulation in the exchange program that prohibits interbreeding between humans and beast creatures. Violating this law results in a severe punishment for the human. Will Kurusu be able to resist Miia's advances and keep himself out of trouble?
Akame Ga Kiru

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - Kono Watashi No Mono Tonare, Yuusha Yo Kotowaru!

"I second that motion..."
Toriko - Not particularly inventive, I would classify it as standard shounen. However, the setting and style is so clever and unique that I must recommend it. Ongoing
A Fairytale for the Demon Lord - The valiant Knight defeats the evil Demon Lord and rescues the Princess? Bah, what a boring story. This one is MUCH more interesting. Complete
"I also recommend..."
Berserk - One of the classics. Don't skip out if you've seen the anime, it doesn't even cover 20% of the story. Ongoing
Drifters - A weird one to be sure. A few select people find themselves in a different world. Nothing makes sense. Only one thing matters: Are you a Drifter? Or a Scourge? Ongoing
Freak's Squeele - A school for heroes? This is French. It is awesome. Read it. Ongoing
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer - This is a growing-up story. It has 15 characters, and some of the best character development I've ever seen. Complete8/27/2012 #14
It is about a girl named Mio adventuring throughout an island dotted world. Each island is called a Home is has its own unique culture, philosophy and even race. She joins Oceanic Affairs, an agency created to explore and catalog these Home, as she wishes to explore the world she once knew.
It has a very shounen feel like DB (no or little wangst) and quite light hearted. Has ample amounts of comedy and action so you can't be truly bored.8/27/2012 #15
I second Drifters. As an added incentive, it is written by Kouta Hirano, the creator of Hellsing.8/27/2012 #16
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is a classic, that everyone should read. It's both hilarious, epic and heart string pulling at the same time... Seconded...8/27/2012 #17
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - "Kono Watashi no Mono Tonare, Yuusha yo" "Kotowaru!" Manga
After a long and treacherous journey, our Hero finally arrives at the Demon Queenâs castle only to find himself being asked for help. The Hero explains how the war that the demons have brought upon the humans have killed thousands and put more in misery. The Demon Queen however argues that this war has made the human society band together as one and showed empirical evidence how it has increased population, increased production, boosted economy and improved society overall. Furthermore, she explains to the Hero that ending this war will result in a civil war that will produce more bloodshed than there ever was. The Hero, convinced that the only way to bring peace, relatively speaking, is to join forces with the Demon Queen, agrees to help with her plans!
PS: there are like 3-4 mangas of the light novel, this one is suposed to be the official one8/27/2012 #18
Hah! Ohh Monster Musume. I had some laughs at that, ridiculous cheesecake be damned. Smith is my distaff self, I suspect.
But that Maoyuu one looks interesting. I will check it out.8/27/2012 . Edited 8/27/2012 #19

Anyone read Shingeki No Kyojinn yet?8/31/2012 #20
I just finished marathon-ing a ... mahwa ? (whatever you call these Korean manga versions) Well, actually it's more of a web-comic that's being translated, but you guys have just got to check it out,
Tower of God
The setting is ... frankly, I have no idea where it is. Basically, the story is about a nobody who decides to climb a tower. It's said that you can get whatever you want at the top - Fortune, Gold, Power, Revenge ... etc. The irony here, is that he's climbing the tower searching for a girl. It's not that there's only 1 victor. There are others who have reached the top and are now "administrators" or something of the sort. The artwork is .. meh. It's not stellar, but it's not that horrible either. The highlight of the story is the drama. And the cloak-and-daggers play. It's done fantastically !! If nothing else, you guys just have got to read the first volume. The ending shocked me. It's right now going on with volume 2 and has weekly releases.
Reserve about an hour or 2 for this. If you like plots, I can assure everyone that you won't be disappointed (Unless you are the kind of jerk to come in here and complain that this technically isn't a manga).
No idea on that story. Sorry mate. :(
I've read Shingeki No Kyojinn. It's good, but is also requires you to be in certain moods to enjoy it. Also, the life-expectancy of any character in it except for the main three is cripplingly low.9/1/2012 #22
I haven't gotten too far in that series yet, but...
Rak the Alligator is awesome. He makes me smile.9/2/2012 #23
Oh, just wait till you reach the ending of volume 1. Yes, things are relatively slow near the beginning, but when you do finish it, please come back here and tell us your thoughts. I want to know your EXACT reaction when you finish the first part. (chronodekar smirks)
akame ga kiru.
Think Flame of Recca, but about 500 times better with more character death, fanservice, and blood.
it. is. awesome. Nasu would approve of this series.9/2/2012 #25
Ah, Akame ga Kiru
Flame of Recca elements with the Teigu but the death, drama and characters are more awesome. Oh and the Jager commander is hot. She is rather what is the term...savage I think that I find her appealing.
And I concur it has enough heart punches and tearjerking and character waff and then they suddenly DIE that would probably make Nasu nod in approval9/2/2012 #26
That doesn't sound ominous at all! I will not expect anything shocking to happen, not even a little bit!
I just wish that my phone didn't turn the res on images, making them unreadable. Alas. (I also wish it didn't eat my formatting)
Just finished vol 1, and...
Holy sh*tting f*ckballs! I did not see that one coming!
And now I must have more. Good bye for now, Guild Wars 2. My time suck is now Tower of God.
UPDATE THE SECOND
Well. I was not expecting my stint to end so quickly. You know how often it usually updates?9/3/2012 . Edited 9/3/2012 #27
I personally find Akame ga kiru to be the subversion of what fantasy genre of a shonen hero and his adventures; I mean look at how bad the country is.
Realism seems to be the main priority as the setting is potrayed as being lawless despite having its own authority; the minister is manipulating the ruler for his own benefits and pretty much everybody is guilty of murder one way or another,
In other words, this is the grittier side of a shonen hero;s adventure.9/3/2012 . Edited 9/3/2012 #28
Glad to know that someone else on this forum is enjoying that series. :) The original Korean webcomic is updated weekly and the translation usually follows a similar schedule.
As for the rest of you - go read "Tower of God" on batoto.net RIGHT NOW !!!!
