It was fairly difficult to believe that an hour or so ago, Brendan had been in the Scriptorium, drawing with real ink on real paper.

And now, he was sitting in the hot, stuffy room of the tower, his mind wandering as his eyes did, away from his uncle as the older man draw on his wall and outside, past the village, past the wall...

Out to where Aisling was.

He tried to force himself to look back at the plans (he didn't really know why his uncle made him come up here...), but, inevitably, he managed to drift off again. His eyes found Brother Leonardo, standing on a scaffold, irritably and fruitlessly hitting the same place on the same pillar over and over again with a hammer. The look on his face, coupled with the painfully repetitive job, made Brendan break out into giggles. For a moment.

It was long enough.

Brendan cringed and glanced at his uncle, sincerely hoping that someone up there decided that today, the Abbot wouldn't notice.

Fat Chance....

Cellach's finger just barely kept from slipping.

He turned, giving his nephew a flat look. "Those plans are amusing, I see."

The laughter was still there, trying to get out. So when Brendan shook his head and did his best to look completely humorless, a grin twitched on his face. Looking down at the floor and taking several deep breaths, he shook his head.

"No. I'm sorry, Uncle."

"Hmm." He glanced out the window, not noticing Leonardo's antics. However, he did notice that things were going a tad behind schedule.

"It seems they can't do anything without me," he growled. He knew that he was being surly, but they had been working on that section of the wall for several weeks. It was frustrating.

"Come," he said, turning to the door. It seemed that he would have to supervise them on his own.

Secretly relieved that he'd (apparently) gotten off, Brendan hopped down from the chair and hurried across the room. He was also rather relieved that Brother Leonardo's unenthusiastic wall building had escaped his uncle's notice, though he had realistic expectations at how long that would last.

The Abbot picked up the plans and set down the stairs at a steady pace, fully expecting Brendan to follow.

The area around the gate is looking rather shoddy...
