My adventure into fanfiction-dom started with being introduced to the anime Bleach, followed by Naruto. Through the vagaries of FFnet, the third fandom I connected to turned out to be HarryPotter, mainly due to my fascination with the characterisation of Severus Snape. (Mainly his trials and strength of character, masked vulnerability, combined with sarcastic humor and a certain darkness. All in all an shadowed character with many possible interpretations and therefore myraid plotlines to exploit. I'd never have realised these even though I've read all HPbooks, if not for Snape-fanfics which explores facets that Rowling merely hints at.)
Ironically, my favourite book series is Lord of the Rings (Tolkien's world is truly beautifully written and excellently portrayed), but I've thus far restrained myself from venturing into the depths of fanfic, from fear that I may never re-emerge. That, and I simply cannot stand imagining any 'inappropriate' relationships between LotR characters. My love of LotR remains in the intricacies of its crafting rather than any explicit romantic aspects.
Reading (and occasionally writing) fiction is a form of stress relief, which explains why I browse FFnet sporadically. Very infrequently, a muse hits and I scribble down some few writings, but thus far none are deemed complete enough for publication. Added to that is a hectic schedule which prevents any commitments to writing a full story. One could say that I maintain a profile solely to write reviews, since it seems ungrateful to read and enjoy others' work without penning a token of appreciation. Although it is mildly possible that sometime in the future I may find time to actually revise some drafts, and post something worth reading.
Stories under my 'Favourite Stories' tag are mainly there because of great character development, writing, and plots. Or possibly due to either rib-cracking, or understated humour that I cannot resist. And mostly they contain my favourite 'people' written in the way I'd have imagined them if I'd possessed the skill. I've realised that I enjoy well thought out plots with a good dash of humour (Kakashi or Snape-style), they can even be out of canon as long as the action is consistent and plausible. I'm not much for explicit romance, nor yaoi, but those elements are tolerable as long as the story as a whole is good. However I would never imagine/write slash.
In brief, the stories I've tagged as favourites are ones that I really enjoy, these make my day just through the reading, and re-reading. I've added them to favs just for the pleasure of sharing the existence these excellent fics with anyone who wanders across my profile.
