Author has written 2 stories for Death Note, and CSI.
Okay, the above "Hi!" has been the only thing in my profile for years, until now. Cause there's something that really bugs me and I want to address it. There are authors who feel like asking for reviews, requesting reviews, or threatening (with lack of updates and the like) for reviews is wrong or low or superficial or whatever. It's fine if these people feel that way; they can leave this out of their updates, and it's all good. But I've seen authors get a lot of crap for wanting reviews, and honestly, people need to chill.
Let me use examples from my own chapters, so as not to pull other people into my statement:
"Read and Review please. I'll continue either way, but reviews determine whether I post it or not : )" There is nothing wrong with asking for reviews, and I'm sure most authors will continue to post even without reviews. This includes myself. When I say the above sort of thing in my author's notes, most of it is kidding around, for example the blatantly joking, "Review dammit, even if you flame me, haha lolz, flame, get it yeah…. But review!" It's all a way of saying, "I like writing (obviously, or I wouldn't be on FF in the first place) and although I write for myself, it's really helpful to learn the ways in which others see my writing." This doesn't mean I'll stop writing OR posting if I don't receive reviews, it would just be nice. And I'm not complaining either, I get plenty of wonderful reviews, and I'm grateful. I also review a whole lot of the fics that I read on FF. It's a give and take thing.
And yeah, I have a lot of respect for people who never mention future reviews of their stories in ANs, but we all need to have respect for each other in order to maintain a peaceful virtual community here. It's slightly condescending to scold someone for asking for feedback, and that's not okay in my eyes, because we're all equal here, independent of age, reviews, writing ability, whatever. That's all I have to say.
