Fandoms: Naruto, Harry Potter.
Likes: Well written stories, generally with independent and semi-powerful protagonists, intricate plotlines, and cool ideas.
Dislikes: Yaoi. Slash. Poorly written stories. Lack of creativity.
Pet Peeves: The word "ya". The derivatives "yeah", "yes", and "yup" are all fine, but "ya" just ticks me off. Also, spelling and stupid/pointless/overused name-calling e.g. Wealsy, Hrary, Kanoha, Lakey Calldren, Dumb-aldoor, Sas-uke, Moldieshorts.
Started reading fanfiction in 2004, at the tender age of ten, wondering when the next Harry Potter book would come out. The earliest fic that I remember loving is dbzdragonlanceman's "Year of Discovery" series, which to me at the time seemed a godsend. I remember sneaking out of my room to the computer desk at midnight to read the updates every weekend, and soon after that fanfiction became one of my secret passions and hobbies. I got around to trying to write a fic, "Harry Potter, The Heir" (it's still up somewhere under the user Gryffinclaw, for which I've forgotten the password and username), and I gained immediate respect for the efforts that writers put out to making a good fic. Anyhow, that fic was abandoned in a week, the demands of decent writing from an eleven-year old way too difficult for me.
Anyways, I've matured (a little bit) since those heady days of cliches, HG and HHr shipping, uber-powerful Harry and the like. My tastes are a little more refined, and I hunt for interesting plots and great writing. Cheap romance, overpowered characters, and brainless plots just won't fly any more.
Communities I Follow
Cool not DeadLast - a good Naruto-centric collection.
DLP 5-Starred - from the fine and snarky folks at Dark Lord Potter forums. They're pretty critical and "hardcore" over there, but they do have good taste in fics.
He really is just a snarky greasy git - curated by the incomparable Nonjon. Great writer, great taste in fics too. Harry Potter fics.
Top of the Mark - also a one-author collection by the equally awesome Rorschach's Blot. Massive collection in all sorts of fandoms, and it's an accomplishment to sift through the hundreds of pages of fics.
