Not a lot of details about me, here, at least not yet. Suffice to say that I am male, older and live in the Midwest US. I have been enjoying the fanfiction on this site for a while, and it has finally awakened my muse, who must have thought I'd forgotten her forever. The ideas have been coming in floods, and I have tens of thousands of words in notes and outlines and fragments now. I am working on a few Harry Potter stories, one is a large project. I have never liked the canon epilogue, the pairings and endings seemed as if just bolted-on to the rest of the work as if JKR wanted it done and to not have to do any more. I can understand that after the inevitable burnout of the deadlines for the books and the movies, but she wrote herself into some corners with it, and the ending never felt satisfying. Fortunately, fanfiction exists for us to experiment with alternatives, and my work will most definitely be AU. Things will be different, typically originating at a point in canon, then a new choice is made, or a different event happens and a new path is created. Favorite pairings: Daphne/Harry The lack of canon details about Daphne allows for a truly blank slate, and some of the best stories I've read feature this pair Harry/Luna This is the pair that would have made me happiest in canon, as Luna was the only person to accept Harry and comfort him. Hermione may have loved him as a brother, but she was always too bossy and surrogate mom towards him rather than big sister. The first 2 chapters of the major project are nearly ready to post, and the other story, a Daphne/Harry piece has been nearly completely diagrammed out, and I will be working on actual chapters soon. Also, music is my other great love besides reading, so my stories will have titles of the songs that triggered thoughts, feelings or people. The massive project will not be named for songs, rather the chapters will, and have excerpts from the song that were key to that inspiration. That being said, the title of my Daphne/Harry story is Sanctuary, inspired by the song She Sells Sanctuary, by The Cult. Favorite Books/Authors: Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit/Silmarillion First read these when I was 9 and from that moment on, I was hooked on fantasy and science fiction soon after. It also got me into D&D, and writing my own fiction. I became addicted to world building because of Tolkien. Dave & Leigh Eddings The Belgariad was fantastic, and the follow up series was very well done, their ideas on prophecy were fantastic, and I am absolutely playing with their idea in the Harry Potter 'verse for a future story. Like Tolkien, the world building they did was fantastic. Far and away my favorite book of theirs is The Redemption of Althalus. Also, their concept of The Will and The Word is key to one of my works. The Sparhawk trilogies are also fantastic, and I may try to work them in as well someday. Raymond Feist and all of the books in the Riftwar universe. Christopher Stasheff Wizard in Rhyme, The Gramarye series and spinoffs are all favorites, but I especially enjoy the Star Trouper series. Having done some theater tech and set building, I love his fusion of the theater and space travel. |
