Author has written 71 stories for Superman.
6/28/14: We're not dead, just both stuck in the hell of very recent full-time hours and new positions at our jobs. Right now, life is consisting of coping with a million new things with no training and little sleep when we get home. It's kinda beaten up the muse a bit more. The stories are still there, we still know everything we plan to write, and we want to write them. It's just finding the time and energy to do so. Hopefully some of you are still out there and want them to move forward, too. Words can't express how much we miss you and them. Being away from the account hurts in so many ways I can't even get into. Life just keeps getting in the way.
Also, since I have no format in which to write them, LSR7, check the New Readers Guide to the KLK AUs here for the order on the Little Secrets oneshots. I wish I knew a new to put them in chronological order. I think the only place they're like that is my Livejournal account, with the Indexs of DOOM. If you see this, thank you SO much for the reviews lately. All of them make me want so bad to come back and play in my sandbox.
I MIIIIISS YOOOOOU GUUUUUYS!
4/22/14: Yeah, I know. Long time, no see. Things have been...mildly stressful over here of late, so much so that I didn't exactly want to share the burden. Needless to say, it has to do with the recent economy and things of that nature, on top of having moved into a new house. I don't have time for a full update as yet, but expect something here in the next week or two, for those that care. There's just too much and too many things left hanging to tell all. But I'm alive and I plan to be back at some point in the future. I love you all and miss you bunches.
11/07/13: Another post I don't like doing, but the hiatus will continue for at least another three weeks. Due to the loss of key employees at my job going into the Season, I'm doing overtime every single week, like or no and it's giving Anissa and me very little time to do more than sleep and work. We also need to be looking into a move soon, as we won't be staying in the home we've lived in for the last twelve years. It's like sitting in the midst of a tornado.
The plan is to be back before December, but it may take a little more time. We have no intention of leaving these stories unfinished, none at all, but real life just needs to settle first. Bear with us, all. We just need to be able to stop and get our bearings again. Just give us a little more time.
10/06/13: No one is going to be thrilled with this announcement, but I feel it's necessary after a discussion that was had earlier this evening. Neither of us think that our work is up to par since Tom's passing and we also have family coming in two weeks to have a kind of memorial service, so we're going to do ourselves and you guys a favor and take the rest of October off to get our heads together. All projects are going on hold. The work has suffered and that shouldn't be.
There may be an overhaul of LaOH or we may close that we have now and go back to the 'oneshot' format for what we have planned. If anyone is really reading it. We're seriously considering what we're doing there. We may just wrap the current storyline, start the oneshots, run the side-story with Kala on its own, and pick up in Blood Will Tell five years later. ATU is very popular right now, but it's the hardest to write and we saw a little slippage in the last chapter, too.
We just don't know. We're both exhausted and we need time to get our heads straight. This is something we should have decided last month, to take a month or so and let the smoke clear. We'll keep you updated. Promise.
9/14/13: So, yeah. No update this week. All of the events of this week just have done nothing for inspiration. It's been a mess. Not enough sleep, not eating enough in either of our cases, a lot of time just wandering around on auto-pilot. Neither of us has been horribly talkative to anyone but each other. Not a really good environment for the happy scenes we have planned for the new ATU.
However, we're starting to talk about picking it back up this coming week to finish it out. So there's a tentative deadline for next weekend. Fingers crossed and hopefully we'll be feeling the vibes again by at least mid-week. We'll see. We'll also keep you all updated. I love all of you for your wonderful and sweet comments. I really have the most amazing friends in the world. *hugs you all* I promise I'll respond back to everyone soon. It's just that reading all of them when it's still so fresh just makes me cry and I'm trying like hell not to do that. Just bear with me a little longer.
9/7/13 (Part Two): It's over. At a little after 4 this afternoon, Anissa's dad, Tom, passed away. He fought the good fight until the end, always too stubborn to go, but this time it was just too much for him. He was tired. And we loved him enough to respect his wishes when he said it was time. After smack-talking and ax-fighting the Reaper so long, he was ready.
We miss you, Tom, and wish that we had had more time with the man we were coming to know in the end. We love you and things will never be the same.
May Destiny and Fate be kind enough to lend us half the strength and determination to get us through life's fights the way that you example taught us.
9/7/13: Yeah, another delay. There's a very real chance that all of the drama with my father-in-law may be over by tomorrow. We're on watch now. There's no way of knowing if or when. Emotions are running high and we're no good tonight. We might be even worse in the morning. The chapter is nearly finished, but it's going to be delayed again. We'll keep you posted. Keep us in your prayers, guys. I'm afraid to see what dawn will look like.
8/15/13 (guest post): Coauthor here, she of the sprained back. I'm glad to say I am getting better, and have been able to walk without pain and sit up for over an hour with only moderate pain. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work, so by the time I get home I am hurting too much to write. Lois is exhausted from keeping up with her job, me, and my dad, so she's in no shape to work on it either. We basically get home each day and flop down, limp as dishrags, until a minor emergency of some kind or another forces us back up.
(Let me steal a moment to publicly say "THANK YOU" to my writing partner, best friend, and love of my life, Lois, whom you all know as kalalanekent. She has been an absolute godsend these last few weeks - well, months, really. I literally don't know what I would do without her. I hope that every one of you reading this has someone in your life like her, who's always got your back - even when you sprain it.)
We are actively working on the next chapter for Love and Other Headaches as well as discussing the next Across the Universe chapter, but we won't be able to make deadline this weekend. I'm really excited for what we have to show you in both of them, and I know the cliffhanger ending in AtU is just plain evil.
You know how much we hate delays like this - I'm sure you hate them too. But I would personally rather hold up progress for two weeks than give you guys a short, substandard, written-while-on-heavy-painkillers chapter. Bear with us, and we'll be back in action ASAP.
8/8/13: It's beginning to look like TNT around here with all the medical drama. Saturday afternoon, a few hours after I posted the last chapter, Anissa managed to badly strain/sprain her back. We thought it was just bad back pain, but we had to take her to the Emergency Room. That said, she's been on bedrest and will remain so until Monday. Sitting up for more than twenty minutes at a time hasn't been an option, but we're getting there.
I've been alternately keeping an eye on her, keeping an eye on the FIL, and trying to work. That said, we have to strike out this week. There just hasn't been time at all for me to even try to start it myself. The plan is to have LaOH out next week, but I'll keep you updated. FIL still recovering, Anissa down for the count. Say me a little prayer that it stops there?
7/18/13: Serious update is serious.
Well, all, we're going to miss a deadline this week, most likely. My father-in-law is going to be going in for surgery on Friday morning and Anissa and I have had a VERY full schedule at work this week. There's no telling how much time we're going to have to take off tomorrow and Friday and also potentially Saturday. That's not a good sign when we've only managed to get two scenes and some notes chalked out on a Thursday.
So we're going to call LaOH for the week. We'll keep working on it through the weekend and will be posting next week. Yes, that will put ATU out of rotation and I'm sorry for that, but his health and our mental well-being comes first. Trust me, you don't need your authors any crazier than they already are. Wish us and Tom luck. A little afraid that we're gonna need it.
takes one look at this month's hit-count so far
Are you KIDDING me?!? That's got to be a record!
drops dead of shock
Seriously, you guys! THANK YOU!
3/8/13: I was hoping to not have to do this, but I'm going to have to call delay AGAIN due to medical emergency. Seems there's been far too many in this house the past year. Anissa threw out her back on Sunday and we've been doing what we can with doctor's assistance. We actually managed to START the chapter, but her pain has gotten worse as the week has progressed, to the point that we're going to go for an MRI. We're afraid it might be a slipped disk.
Add to that that things have been psycho-stressful at work for me lately [I don't know WHAT we're doing in there from day to day. Actually I'm not sure any of us do. It's just that time of year] and the fact that I've been needing to care for her and my FIL and it just adds up to no free time to write. I HATE delays, HATE THEM, and you all know it. I would love to be able to run on our old schedule right now, with no delays ever, but we're doing the best we can with what's been thrown at us. I promise we'll be back on schedule as soon as we can.
2/9/13: Okay, guys, I don't know what's going on. The chapter has been posted for the last eight hours over here and I still can't see it. Which is weird because I deleted it and re-uploaded a little while ago and I STILL can't see it. It must be a site-glitch. I'm going to keep this version up for another few hours and we'll see where we are. I promise you, I posted before bed last night.
1/1/13: The holidays officially end this week, so we'll be back to posting fic on next Saturday. I'm still dealing with too much drama at work to start back this week, which I expected. So expect to see the next chapter of Love and Other Headaches next weekend, followed by Across the Universe, as that was how we left things off. We hope your Christmas was wonderful and your New Year is off to a good start. See you next week!
12/6/12: Hello, dear readers, this is your Voice of DOOM (aka Coauthor Anissa) here with an announcement. You see, it’s that special time of year again, the time when family and friends draw closer, when we fill ourselves with the spirit of hope and peace…
…and when everyone mobs the retail stores in a frantic feeding-frenzy to buy up gifts. Coincidentally, it’s also the time of year when companies get greedy and try to wring out every last drop of profit. In short, Lois is having the Opposite of Fun, and she’s pretty darn stressed. I am fortunate enough not to work retail, but I am facing some issues of my own. My six-person crew has lost two members in the last two months, and will likely lose two more in the new year. We are both under some serious pressure.
Which is why, reluctantly, we’ve decided to take a hiatus from our scheduled fic for the rest of the month. Don’t panic! We will still be working on both Across the Universe and Love & Other Headaches to get a little ahead of our deadline, and we will also be working on some holiday fic and some future fic. It’s just that we need to relax our writing schedule a bit to make room for things like holiday baking and tree-decorating and hiding in the work bathroom trying not to scream like banshees and assault our managers. Besides, you’ll be wrapped up in your own holiday preparations and may not even miss us.
Thank you so much for your patience. See you in January!
11/9/12: With enough lead time to post a spoiler over on LJ, I prove that the Love and Other Headaches chapter that was lost has been rebuilt. ;) Hopefully it's half as good as what we original had for you. Also, yep, big larger plots moving forward. Just remember, guys, this is just the lead-up you're going to need for Blood Will Tell. Yep, ambition, we has it. ;) And we might just see something else from us a little earlier than next weekend. Keep an eye out.
10/27/12: Annnnnd with our usual quota on the plate, our computer ate the chapter file. All of it. About half an hour ago.
Which means that we're going to have to rewrite the damn thing.
Guys, as badly as we wanted to get this to you before we headed out on vacation, it's just not going to happen. There's no way we can recreate a chapter this size in less than 24 hours when we have a ton of last-minute running-around to do. Just zero chance.
I'm totally heartbroken about this. Looks like we'll be posting this next weekend if we can get it finished in time. If all else fails, it'll come out first instead of ATU the following weekend.
It would happen the week we're leaving for vacation, huh?
9/15/12: Rest assured, the chapter's coming, but I got in late from work tonight and then there were some computer issues. Not enough to stop us from posting the weekend. It may be coming to you late Saturday night or early Sunday, but you'll have it before the weekend is out.
Forgive the delay, all!
9/01/12: Yep, we're better. Yep, the hiatus is over! Yep, the chapter will be out later today. We just need to look it over one more time and make sure all looks well and connects. Remember, half the writing time was spent with The Sickness. ;)
More news once I get a little sleep and wake up again.
We looooove you all! And thank you for the well wishes! They honestly did help!
8/21/12: I hate posting this, but it looks as though it's going to be necessary. I'm into my second week of the pneumonia, starting to improve by degrees, but now we've run into the problem that happens to all couples. Anissa has it now. *sigh* There only been less than 1,000 words written since the beginning of last week. So I'm going to go ahead and call it now, as much as it kills me to do it. We're going to have to take another week while Anissa gets better because the current chapter has a huge action sequence in it that's going to need both of us fully on-board to manage.
Sorry, guys. I'm going to say look for the next post from us on September 1. Until then, we'll be trying to get well and plot to have things up and rolling by then.
8/17/12: Yes, it was truly pneumonia. Ended up in the ER last night straight from work. So, yes, no chapter this week. We're going to keep working working for the rest of this week, but there's no chance of having it in before bedtime at all. Sorry, guys.
8/16/12: Another damn delay. Well, the doctor confirmed it the other day. I have walking pneumonia. I guess it was only a matter of time, as it's been going around the job like wildfire. So, due to the fact that I'm fighting this plus still working a full week on top of it, the chapter is going to be delayed a week while I try to get myself back in working order. I'm literally coming home, eating dinner, showering, passing out for ten hours, getting up an hour before work, working eight hours, repeat.
So yeah, no chapter this week. We'll be back with Love and Other Headachesnext Saturday unless this cold gets worse next week. I'll keep you on stand-by.
7/3/12: Let me preface this with the fact that it's a birthday request.
Okay, so there will be no chapter this holiday weekend. Anissa's birthday's coming up next weekend and she's requested that we just work on easy projects, which include working on future fic and making changes and adaptions to notes. And this gives us time to plot what happens next in ATU a little tighter.
However, you will have a chapter for you before we leave for her three-day birthday mini-vacation next Friday.
Sorry, guys, but who was I to refuse a birthday request from my co-author?
Love you all!
TMI on this annoying author-type:
Name: Lois Joos (Daddy's fault for the name; doesn't help that he worked for a newspaper, Jacksonville Times-Union, does it?)
Birthdate: 12/11/78 (The day of the Superman: The Movie London Premiere. Yes, totally nerdtastic!)
Current Location: Jax, Florida. How lovely a day it will be when I can leave the Home of the Mosquito!
Mental Location: Asheville, NC or Toronto, ON, depending on the day
Favorite Film: Narrowing this down would be impossible. As it is: anything Henson fantasy, The Professional, the Reeveverse films (although I love STM and SII: DC like WOAH and DAYUM), The Lady in the Water, Firelight, High Tension, Elizabeth, Up... Really, this could go on for hours...
Favorite Musical Artist: Again, totally random and eclectic: The Moody Blues, My Chemical Romance, Mozart, The Cure, Tori Amos, Vertical Horizon, Delerium, The Alan Parsons Project, Jason Mraz, Annie Lennox, classical remixes...
Favorite TV Shows: I don't watch too many current 'series' shows. I watch Smallville, Skins, and The Tudors, but I'm more of a Ghost Hunters-Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations-Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmeran-Investigation Discovery Channel kinda of girl. Now back in the day it was all about: La Femme Nikita, Beauty and the Beast, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Remington Steele, Law and Order, Jim Henson's The Story-Teller. I think my biggest problem is just that not too many current shows have a way of captivating me. And I must be captivated to keep watching.
