Author has written 2 stories for Hobbit.
I'm grad student in the DFW area of Texas, USA, as well as a full-time market researcher. I do creative writing in my spare time (when I have any), but my right now my schedule is pretty much dominated by my thesis project and commuting. Hopefully this'll change in December!
Aside from my fanfics, I'm also working on my own book series and extended universe. This is pretty much still in the planning stages right now - I've got the plots to several different novels figured out, but I'm still working on the overall universe design and trying to pick names for all of these people I'm going to have to include... and assigning different Earth languages to them, since I am not crazy enough to try and develop my own. Fanfic, especially Back Again, is turning out to be very good practice for this, so please give me all the constructive criticism you can!
Look Me Up On:
An off-the-beaten-path time-travel fix-it with a fair amount of world-building thrown in. It's a WIP, though I do have the plot worked out and a bunch of notes on where I want to take it. It's very slow build, as a result of being full of secondary and tertiary characters (and my desperate need for realism.) It will be a five (or six) arc story. The Fell Winter is the first one, the Ranger-napping is the second, and the Blue Mountain adventure is the third. The rest is... a surprise. A lot of time-travel fics have a character re-live the exact same storyline while changing key moments - this fic won't be doing that. That type of story can be pretty good if done right, but I kinda wanted to do something unique. I'm using about 3/5th book-verse for this one - the rest is movie, video game, and stuff I made up ;).
Tolkien-lore: Quenya vs. Sindarin - Quenya is like elf-latin, while Sindarin is like elf-English (or whichever language you happen to speak.) Barely any of the younger elves speak Quenya, but for the older ones it's still their first language. Rangers/Dundain (or Dunedan, which is singular) are supposed to live around three times as long as a human and stay in good condition until they die - that translates to around the average dwarf life-span if not slightly longer. This does depend on how mixed their ancestry is, though - those who are part Northerner tend not to live as long. Dunedain do grow up as fast as a normal human (at least in this fic.) Hobbits, on the other hand... Bilbo is about equivalent in age to a sixteen-year-old human right now. So, he is physically younger than the Rangers.
Character Appearance: Whatever you want them to look like. Seriously. I don't care. Fanart your little hearts out. I think I only gave one person's haircolor, and that was Gilraen's. It was dark. Aside from that... go wild.
July 28th, 2014: Have taken a nice, long vacation and chilled the heck out. I, I'm beginning to feel it again. I hope. Am pondering the merits of a massive retcon, rewriting from Upon the Shore and onwards, but will wait until I've got more material. Either way we're going to end up with "The Arc that Wasn't" in the Bloopers section.
Back Again - the Bloopers
A series of oneshots, shorts and outtakes from Back Again - a Hobbit's Tale. Most of these follow the law of funny... I blame growl_meow for this. The Bloopers are currently posted on Ao3 only, since the site formatting on ff.net doesn't allow for fanfic series... When BA is done, the Bloopers will be added onto the end in the style of blooper reels everywhere. Link is link if you don't want to wait. (It will be a very long time before the very long BA is done - I don't recommend waiting.)
Forget Me Not
A former one-shot that a few people begged me to continue... I don't know what the heck I'm doing with it, but it seems to be going okay so far. It will basically follow the plot of the Hobbit until we get to the BoFA, where it might go a bit off the beaten path. Just a bit. It is pre-slash right now, but who the heck knows where it'll end up. Like Back Again, this story will be mostly bookverse-based, with bits of movieverse and fanon thrown in.
Jan 10th, 2014: Wrote chapter 2, went to add it and then... Realized that what I wrote wasn't so much a new chapter as a continuation of the last scene. So, edited it into chapter 1. Err... If you haven't read the first chapter since before the 10th, then you might want to re-read it before I'm done with the actual chapter 2...
