Author has written 2 stories for Hobbit.
I'm grad student in the DFW area of Texas, USA. I do creative writing in my spare time (when I have any), but my schedule is going to be a very tricky thing this semester with my massive workload. *Sighs* I mostly do Hobbit and LoTR fic, but I do a lot of reading and might venture into some different fandoms when I'm done with what I'm working on now.
Aside from my fanfics, I'm also working on my own book series and extended universe. This is pretty much still in the planning stages right now - I've got the plots to several different novels figured out, but I'm still working on the overall universe design and trying to pick names for all of these people I'm going to have to include... and assigning different Earth languages to them, since I am not crazy enough to try and develop my own. Fanfic, especially Back Again, is turning out to be very good practice for this, so please give me all the constructive criticism you can!
Look Me Up On:
An off-the-beaten-path time-travel fix-it with a fair amount of world-building thrown in. It's a WIP, though I do have the plot worked out and a bunch of notes on where I want to take it. It's very slow build, as a result of being full of secondary and tertiary characters (and my desperate need for realism.) It will be a five (or six) arc story. The Fell Winter is the first one, the Ranger-napping is the second, and the Blue Mountain adventure is the third. The rest is... a surprise. A lot of time-travel fics have a character re-live the exact same storyline while changing key moments - this fic won't be doing that. That type of story can be pretty good if done right, but I kinda wanted to do something unique. I'm using about 3/5th book-verse for this one - the rest is movie, video game, and stuff I made up ;).
I haven't read the Silmarillion in full yet, but I have been paging around in it for the interesting parts. Too many elves for me. -WAY- too many elves. Only some parts of it are going to be included; and I'll (or the characters) will explain it... Am trying to keep the fic movieverse friendly, even if that's not the source.
Canon vs. Fanon: the backstory I used for Belladonna and Bungo's deaths is fanon - in canon they lived until their eighties and died of old age. The Hildegard backstory is fanon, her date of death is canon, though. Hildifons and Isengar are both canon. So is their disappearance. Scatha the Cold Worm was indeed slain by Fram son of Frumgar, about two-hundred years after the Shire was founded. There was a war with the dwarfs after Fram refused to give them their stolen treasure back... it did end up resolved, but Tolkien never mentioned how. So. Historical precedent. Making stuff up about it ;).
Tolkien-lore: Quenya vs. Sindarin - Quenya is like elf-latin, while Sindarin is like elf-English (or whichever language you happen to speak.) Barely any of the younger elves speak Quenya, but for the older ones it's still their first language. Rangers/Dundain (or Dunedan, which is singular) are supposed to live around three times as long as a human and stay in good condition until they die - that translates to around the average dwarf life-span if not slightly longer. They do grow up as fast as a normal human, though (at least in this fic.) Hobbits, on the other hand... Bilbo is about equivalent in age to a sixteen-year-old human right now. So, he is physically younger than the Rangers.
Since a couple of people have commented on this: I do, in fact, know the difference between Valinor, Aman and Tol Eressa... But, again, I am trying to keep things friendly for the movieverse people who have probably never delved this deep into Tolkien-lore before. I really don't want to swamp people with details that are not strictly relevant to the story - I figured that all three of these places are covered under the ban, so I can mix and match terms as necessary...
2/13/13 - Yuzza of DeviantArt is letting me use her wonderful Bilbo Baggins fanart for a cover. Here's the linkif you want to see it full-size!
1/1/14: Edited the past two chapters of Back Again - the treasure and the hobbits' weapons were not, in fact, recovered. Also, new dialogue for Into the Blue. The tumblr people voted... (There are benefits for following me on tumblr. Not many, but eh.)
3/10/15: Another round of mass edits... also making sure I didn't forget the plot. Should be able to start working on the next chappie shortly. I make no promises, though.
Back Again - the Bloopers
A series of oneshots, shorts and outtakes from Back Again - a Hobbit's Tale. Most of these follow the law of funny... I blame growl_meow for this. The Bloopers are currently posted on Ao3 only, since the site formatting on ff.net doesn't allow for fanfic series... When BA is done, the Bloopers will be added onto the end in the style of blooper reels everywhere. Link isif you don't want to wait. (It will be a very long time before the very long BA is done - I don't recommend waiting.)
Forget Me Not
A former one-shot that a few people begged me to continue... I don't know what the heck I'm doing with it, but it seems to be going okay so far. It will basically follow the plot of the Hobbit until we get to the BoFA, where it might go a bit off the beaten path. Just a bit. It is pre-slash right now, but who the heck knows where it'll end up. Like Back Again, this story will be mostly bookverse-based, with bits of movieverse and fanon thrown in.
1/10/14: Wrote chapter 2, went to add it and then... Realized that what I wrote wasn't so much a new chapter as a continuation of the last scene. So, edited it into chapter 1. Err... If you haven't read the first chapter since before the 10th, then you might want to re-read it before I'm done with the actual chapter 2...
