-- fragment of Sappho's poetry
The name of the Greek poetess Sappho means "Little Pebble." She was short and dark of feature. Called by Plato "the Tenth Muse," she lived on the island of Lesbos with a circle of women and girls to whom she taught poetry and music. Sappho wrote wedding songs and lyrical praise to the gods, especially Aphrodite. But what Sappho is best-known for is her emotional poetry concerning love and personal relationships, and it has been inferred from some of these poems that Sappho's romantic relationships were with other women as well as men.
Sappho is my "Tenth Muse" -- the muse of ambiguous slash. But because she does not fit into my standard pantheon, she needs a pen name all of her own. The other Muses can be found under the name of Flame Tigress, who writes non-slash fanfiction, mostly "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter." So if you like Little Pebble's voice but would like to hear it sing a different manner of song, do give Flame Tigress a listen.
