![]() Author has written 3 stories for Harry Potter. Hi, I’m maschl, an avid fan-fiction reader primarily of fanfics set in the Harry Potter universe or the world of GoT/ ASoIaF. I have a kind of love-hate relationship with the Harry Potter world. It’s an amazing playground for fanfics, but I really don’t like canon all that much. Partly because of the pairings, but mostly because it just doesn’t make any sense. I don’t mean from a scientific point of view – it’s fiction after all. But with regard to the internal consistency, and the consistency of the characters’ actions. Put simply, there is none. None at all. Characters constantly behave as plot devices instead of as actual characters. What magic can or can’t do is completely random, and all the time some new deus ex machina is introduced, only to be immediately forgotten again, without any consideration of the implications for the overall story. I could elaborate, but why do so, when it was done brilliantly by ARedHair already? Check out their profile! Anyway, I think these inconsistencies are exactly why Harry Potter is such a great universe for fanfiction. There is just so much left to explore or explain under a new light. Unlike for example in Tolkien’s world; which, even though it is an objectively much more impressive work of literature, just doesn’t offer very much potential for amazing fanfiction. Game of Thrones/ ASoIaF is a bit different in that regard, as it is not the inconsistencies but probably more the unsatisfactory/ missing conclusion of the story that make it attractive for fanfiction. It's also a vast world with many fledged out, interesting characters, that just offer an amazing playground for fanfic writers. And with the disappointing ending of GoT, and the (probably forever) missing ending of the book series, it is left to fanfics alone to bring the Song of Ice and Fire to a satisfactory conclusion. Apart from reading, I also dabble in putting some of my own ideas into writing. English is a second language for me, so I hope that you’ll indulge me the occasional mistake. I See No Difference is my first attempt at writing a slightly more serious, longer story that will involve some world building. Updates will take longer than with Too Many Champions, but I have the story mapped out and many later scenes written already, so rest assured that it will get completed eventually. Too Many Champions started out as a humorous take on the lack of common sense in the wizarding world, but I also added some other ideas that hopefully make it a bit more original. The story is the first multi-chapter story I've ever written, and I had a lot of fun writing it. The Crack Pot is the collection of all my crack-y one-shots, that I combined so that I can post a new drabble from time to time without cluttering up my profile. |
