I'm alive, honest...

I received a review on 'Only a Prime' from 'Arbright', who unfortunately used a Guest login so I can't reply directly. They raised an important point, and as I can't find them to PM, I'd like to respond to it here.
I hadn't intended to imply that the miscarriages are occurring due to artificial insemination, or that this 'unnatural' (I don't like this word as applied to living, sentient beings who are capable of choice) means of conception is being punished. This story is in part inspired by Coldpaw's wonderful 'What To Make of Me', which began to explore gender identity within a species that is capable of being reformatted, and it was always intended for there to be an exploration of physical/biological gender against self-identified gender (muddied up with a race of technobiological aliens who don't canonically conform to a gender binary as we know it, that is...). Cybertronians are pretty unique in that they can have organs/components grafted in and taken away to extreme degrees, an idea I'm intrigued by.
As for Wheeljack's insistence that conforming to the natural method (sex) will resolve this, it was in reference to a Prime spark being somehow unique from other sparks. In the second chapter, Ratchet explains that it is a mystery why they cannot bring new life to term in artificial gestation pods (as independent from a living Cybertronian system) despite replicating the conditions needed. This same element that cannot be quantified is what is causing the miscarriages now, because although the chamber is within a living system, it is a Prime sparkling being made. Wheeljack emphasizes that a Prime spark is 'heat' and 'passion', referencing a commonly held idea that a Prime's spark burns brighter/stronger than other Cybertronians'. Zapping Prime's spark in an impersonal, clinical manner to ignite the 'zygote' removes heat and passion from the equation, so the newspark diminishes and ultimately dies. By bringing sparkmerged-interfacing back into the equation, the exultation and passion and heat and power will act as a catalyst and (potentially) lead to better results.
I hope that this makes sense, and that it is clear that it was not my intention to appear to punish, shame or otherwise diminish alternative means of procreation than male plus female plus heteronormative sex = infant. I'll also endeavor to make this clear within the prose where appropriate.
