Authors/fanfiction work shout-outs/recs:
AuthorsMiranda Flairgold- writes mostly Harry Potter fics- one of the best Harry Potter fandom writers around. She created a universe out of pretty much just Harry and minor points mentioned by Rowling. I've read her main series at least three times by now. Be warned though- her writings are addictive! Athey- another really amazing Harry Potter fandom writer and one of the best LV/HP pair writers hands down. If you're a fan of dark Harry or LV/HP, HP/DM, you've got to check out her work. BeautifulFiction- writes FMA and Sherlock fics- The way she uses diction is really beautiful. If I could describe things half as well as she does, I would be be quite happy.
(work in progress- will be updated later)
Some concerns I would like to address regarding my writing:
I don't like the pairing:
Well, tough. I don't particularly feel the need to change the pairing based on what readers say because for one reader who doesn't like the pairing, there will always be another who does. Honestly, I can't please everyone. Though I will say that I tend not to focus on romance (I hardly ever do), and I'm not very experienced in it myself. I don't think I can write it well enough for it to be a main focus of the story. There will never be a lime or lemon from me. The most I will write is maybe a hug and a kiss. Romance will mostly be a sideline thing, and it will never take over the plot line. Also, I have a tendency to gently bend the characters to make them a bit more real and believable, so chances are, the characters are different. So no, I won't change the pairing, but it probably won't be what you think it is.
Update soon please:
I have mentioned this on multiple author's notes, but I am a medical student. I'm always busy (or supposed to be busy), so I don't get to write very often. Outside of medicine, I have art, games, my friends, my family, and my dog. Writing takes a backseat to all of that, so I don't get to write much. Real life takes precedence over my writing, and I write for pleasure. If writing becomes stressful, then I won't write. It's that simple. There isn't a particular order to when I update my stories. Sometimes, I get spontaneous oneshot ideas, so I just roll with it and write it down. If I update my stories during the school year, then chances are, the chapter has been pre-written during the summer or winter. Oneshots are mainly plot bunnies or previously half-written stories that I finished/edited. I'll update whenever I can, but I can't guarantee anything. However, I will at least manage an update once a year. Which story gets updated depends on what I wrote.
Your tenses are off:
I know. English is the language I am most fluent in,but my grammar has gotten worse. Where I am, English isn't the main spoken language, so my English has deteriorated as a result. I appreciate being told of where things need to be improved, but again, I don't really have the time. However, if you want to beta for any of my stories, feel free to PM me. I don't really need help with ideas or characters- just the grammar.
Harry/-insert character- has been made super/out of character/useless in the story:
Well, yes. It's my story. I do whatever I want with it. If I wanted Harry to be canon, I'd just go back to JK Rowling's books. Frankly, I can't see Harry staying the same stuttering, awkward mess that he is in Rowling's books. I'm not sure how many readers know this, but when writers try to write a semi-authentic and not completely cracked story, they kind of have to consider the canon plot of whatever anime/manga/book/game they're writing about. When the canon plot comes in, there's the big question of how closely one should stick to the original author/creator's ideas. Personally, I am hesitant to make anything more than small changes to the plot. I'm aware that I'm not a super proficient writer, and I'm not confident in building a plot or a character straight up from scratch. I lean on canon plot quite a bit, so if the chapters are boring because of this... sorry? Another thing that readers may not consider is the idea that the stories aren't complete. A lot of times, I take small actions or put in small clues and then have them play a big part in the story. So whatever character the review is addressing, he/she isn't useless. Chances are, there is a purpose to -insert action- or -insert character- just that I haven't gotten around to writing it out yet. I don't write much, you see. There is a plot, and there will be changes. Be patient, and you will see.
Basically, it boils down to this: It's my story. I do whatever I want to do with it. I will write and upload my works, but I refuse to write what other people tell me to write. I like my readers, and I like getting reviews, but I won't go around begging for reviews. If I wanted reviews, all I would have to do is write an FFVII time travel fic or a Dark lord Harry fic and watch the reviews pour in. There are a ton of those, and cliches get the most reviews, but I won't do that. Why? They're boring, and I don't want to waste my time. My favorite pieces are actually the ones that get the least reviews- one shots. I don't particularly care that there aren't a lot of reviews for it since I like them, and that's really all that matters. I've abandoned my Bleach/Naruto stories even though they've got a number of reviews. Why? I don't want to write or rewrite them anymore. Do I care that I would probably get over five hundred reviews if I continued? No. Do I feel bad for the readers? Kinda. If you want the Naruto/Bleach fics, take them. I don't care. So yes, feedback is appreciated, but the ultimate decision rests with me.
That might seem a bit arrogant of me, but I think I would be doing a disservice to my readers if I were to lie and give false promises instead.
Rant of the Day: To be updated later
Story Progress for Fanfics:
That Crazy Nut of a Teacher: Chapter 7 in progress- currently at 13,000 words, unedited. Projected date of completion:maybe in a couple of months
Jack of All Trades: Chapter 4: I have not even started writing one word of that chapter. In fact, I am rather stuck.
Midnight Rain: Chapter 3: I just finished chapter two, and I haven't had time to write chapter three yet.
Upcoming fics (may or may not be published): these are stories kind of like my one shots. I get the idea for them, I write them, and then I toss them into a random folder. I typically don't publish them until I am done. Sometimes I rewrite them or delete them if I don't like the quality of the work, so there's no guarantee that these will be published.
- Kuroshitsuji/HP cross: Prologue done- not edited. Projected word count: about 4k words
- FMA/HP cross: Chapter count unknown- I am writing everything down and then going back to split them into chapters. As of now, I have two revisions of the draft, and I'm not really happy with either. It will be a long time until I finish it (if at all). This story has been in progress for a year or two now.
- HP/Naruto cross: Have the idea down, haven't written anything at all.
Update on Life- 1/16/15: I'm completely swamped with my studies as usual (neurology- enough said), so I won't be writing much. Also, I got a tablet about half a year ago, so I've been drawing on SAI. Expect to see some fan art in the future.
Right... So onto my fics and other people's fics!
* People who can and undoubtedly will bug me about my Naruto/Bleach fics: I'm not updating them. If I am, I'm going to completely rewrite both stories, and I don't have nearly as much time for that. So no. I'm not updating them, I'm not rewriting them, I'm not making them yaoi, and I'm not doing anything with them. If you want to adopt any of the plots, send me a PM first. Much thanks! *
The type of author that I am: I'm no great author, but I do try. I write because I want to bring my characters to life. Though it makes me really happy when people review. :) I can't guarantee that my fics will all be completed, because they won't be.
I don't write romance. I just don't. I'm not going to write something that I have absolutely no experience or knowledge in just to please people. When I read fanfics, I don't have a thing against yaoi, yuri, or the likes. I mainly judge a story by its plot (or lack thereof) and the author's competence. Pairings that I refuse to read: anything with bestiality, pairings that count as pedophilia, and incest. Even if I do write romance, at most I won't put more than a hug and a kiss or something.
Update speed: I don't do the whole update schedule thing, as you've probably figured out by now. Back when I was actually writing multi-chapter fics, I updated maybe once a month or once every other month. Yeah, not happening. I'm a student first and foremost, so life is usually pretty hectic for me. I do occasionally take requests, but I usually don't.
Reviews: I don't give reviews unless the story that I read is really good. I know what a review means to an author, so I give one out when I think the story deserves one. On the other hand, I reply to all my reviews since I appreciate my readers.
Fanart: My deviantart account is Lolibat. I do have fan art up, but none from my stories at the moment (the ones I drew are from Miranda Flairgold's stories)
Disclaimer: Since I keep forgetting to do this: In no way do I own Harry Potter, Naruto, Bleach, Final Fantasy VII, Ouran High School Host Club, Code Geass, Spirited Away, The World Ends with you, Fairy Tail, or any published piece of work that I choose to write a fanfiction on. I am not profiting from this in any way.
I don't really have anything else to say, really. Er I guess if you need to contact me, PM me. I like talking to people on this site- they're generally pretty nice. :)
