Author has written 3 stories for Naruto, and Harry Potter.
Hello, all you wonderful people who actually take the time to read an author's profile! If you're doing this because you want to know more about me, you rock! If you're reading because you need something to do while you scroll down to my stories, I hope I don't bore you out of your mind.
I am ShadowinRW, there's a sweet, melancholy story behind my name that is a little too fluffy and giggly-nine-year-old-girl to actually write down, so if you actually want to read it, PM me.
I'm also on a bit of a sugar rush while I write this, so excuse the cheerfulness and the random mood swings. I LOVE apple pie!
Okay, so a little bit about myself: I ride horses, and I'm damn good. Well, I think so. Put me up against a high-end professional (or any professional) and not so much. But I love it, and that's what counts. I danced ballet from the age of four to seventeen. Unfortunately, at seventeen, I tried to jump over a wide flower box with both my feet tied together and promptly sprained my ankle. Then I didn't want to make my friends feel bad for laughing so I walked and skipped on it for another hour. Really, thank whatever that I got over being nicey nice and upped my bitchiness a little. It was UGLY in the morning, but I still went ahead and danced on pointe. The next week, I sprained my other ankle in gym class (Seriously, gym class!) and still kept dancing. So my ankles were kind of out of commission the next year. Yeah.
Since dancing was out of the question, I decided to play rugby. Screaming at other, larger girls and charging them is oddly therapeutic. You should try it some time. Then I dislocated my kneecap. Just the one this time. I'm making an effort not to kill the other one, but I did manage to impale the opposite hip on a stone wall. Yeah. I'm a little accident prone.
Have I mentioned I really want to try skydiving?
Okay, I'm going to move from my happy ramblings to lists of favorite stuff, now. If you're still reading, I'm impressed.
Books: Anything by Tamora Pierce (cause she's awesome), most of Robin McKinley, Harry Potter (I actually like some of the fanfiction better than the books but they're good, too), Shakespeare (I'm pretty sure this is just because I like sounding intelligent, but he's awesome anyway), the Mystic and Rider series by Sharon Shinn (Amazing story-telling, really gripping).
I'm not a huge fan of science fiction in general, because I find that authors are so often caught up in their "great" ideas and gadgets that they lose plot and character, and what's the point of reading a story if you don't care about the characters?
Movies: Jurassic Park (dinosaurs eating people, need I say more), LadyHawke (it's like eating cheese fondu with a side of cheese, and the music always makes me laugh), X-Men (not really sure why, but I think it might have something to do with adamantium claws), Iron Man (best super hero movie ever! It's actually funny!), and the Mummy (am refusing to see the third one because Rachel Weis is not there, but her character still is. What the Hell?)
Anime: Prince of Tennis, Naruto, and Bleach
Food: Sushi, Italian, Lo Mein, and Baby-back ribs. And chocolate angel-food cake. Yes, it exists, and it is amazing. Also, I love to bake: I just made the BEST COOKIES EVER! Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip.
Drinks: Tequila, Rolling Rock Beer, Root Beer (it has to be A&W), and water. I really like water. Especially in the morning to wake up. COFFEE
Places: A lake in Northern Ontario (my bat-infested cabin has a great view), Venice, Lecce, and Privas.
Badly written books that still make the best sellers (despite this one, I still like the Twilight series, go figure)
Drivers who don't turn their turn signals on when they're turning or off when they're done.
Those new really strong headlights. I swear, they're trying to burn out my retinas.
Listening to my next door neighbor having sex on a creaky bed.
Pet Peeves in Fanfiction:
Through - A participle. A person steps through a door.
Threw - A verb, past tense. He threw the ball.
There - A Place. Where did you get your hair done? Oh, I go there all the time!
Their - A possessive. Their house is massive.
They're - A Contraction: They Are. They're not very bright, are they?
Your - A Possessive. Your hair is on fire
You're - A Contraction: You Are. You're on fire.
Definitely v. Defiantly: One expresses the likelihood of something happening; the other expresses a person's demeanour. (BTW, I have found out that (most) people who write "defiantly" are probably doing so because they misspelled "definitely" by writing "definately," and darling Microsoft Office fixed their mistake with a new one. I'm not sure how to remember not to do this. I do it by remembering that "finate" is not a word in the English language, but "finite" is.
Warily v. Wearily: One suggests suspicion; the other indicates a wish to get some sleep.
I don't mind if you mess with characters and change their personalities around a little: go ahead, make Harry feminine. Just don't change their fundamental character: Harry will not swoon at the sight of blood or the idea of getting his hands dirty.
Also, even though I love slash where Harry is submissive, I do not like it when this is demonstrated by having him giggle and squirm and beg for tickles. He is acting like a little girl. Which is gross. Not because it's gross for him to act girlish, but because it's gross for anyone to want to fuck a little girl instead of an adolescent or a grown woman.
Don't retell the story. If I want that, I'll go read the books. If your story deals with a lot of cannon, reference the bit that's not original, but you don't need to summarize it like you're writing a fifth grade book report.
Rushing. If you have two people getting to know each other, you can't have them shake hands have them suddenly know each other's secrets unless you have a really good plot device. Take your time. The story isn't going anywhere. If you're bored, don't push it. Take a break.
Super Harry. I love inheritances. I love seer!Harry. I love strong!Harry and intelligent!Harry. What I don't love is some magic thingamabooby and suddenly Harry can do no wrong. Well then, what is the point of the story??????
Actually, make the above apply to any character. I'm using Harry as an example because it happens a LOT.
