Author has written 13 stories for Mario, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Reading, writing and visual art is a substantial part of who I am. I love being a part of the art community and seeing what we all bring to the table!
Gaming was so carefree and simple then. There was no fear of going up to the local convenience store and picking up a game that would scare your mom. (Or local serial killer). Gaming was something much more fun and honest when I started. When I was little, I didn't want to be a doctor or a princess. My childhood dream? I wanted to be a superhero. (LOL!!) I was and still am a huge Spiderman fan; I admired the fact that he was such a geek, such an unlikely hero, and yet he was such a fantastic one. I loved the idea of good conquering evil. Video games used to be an escape to a better world. It was a place where even the loneliest person could rise to greatness and find a place to belong.
When you're a kid, especially a little girl, people pat you on the head and tell you you're cute; they giggle at you when you try to be serious, you want to be important so badly yet feel so powerless sometimes when you're young. Gaming was that one place as a little kid that I could go where I wasn't just a cute little girl; nobody cared if I was a boy or a girl there. I could be a hero, I could have responsibilities, I brought in the justice and halted evil. Even if it was make believe, it was nice to feel like you made a difference somewhere.
Today gaming is much different; you have the choice to be a villain, to be the hero, and I guess it is a lot more like real life nowadays. It is much more serious; people fight with each other over games, you can do ungodly things within them, and what used to be a game (remember, those things that you do for fun?) can sometimes be a chore or grounds for an argument.
But I remember when everybody was a hero, everybody shared the controllers, and everybody had a good time together before they went home.
