I'm Mariska.

About Me:

I'm a female, who lives in Australia. I've completed two Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Criminology and am currently studying Dentistry. I'm shy and quiet but people often come to me for advice, guidance or because they simply need someone to listen to them. I have traveled almost everywhere in Europe, Asia and Australia and have been to quite a few places in the United States and Africa.

My Interests:

I'm interested in other cultures and histories, and I try to keep up to date with situations in Third-World countries and war-torn regions. One of my goals in life is to help these people, learn from them and understand how these situations arise and what we can do to prevent them. I admire the aid-workers and other individuals who dedicate their lives to helping people in these regions. I'm also interested in crime and justice, mostly because I believe in a free and just world, and miscarriages of justice or guilty people who walk free really upset me. I might be considered a partial idealist, but I think that one day the world can be free of miscarriages of justice, war and poverty. Everyone in this world is equal, we all have a heart, a brain and a conscience, and we should all strive to make the world a better place and realize that our actions have consequences and how lucky we are that we aren't living in poverty and squalor, that we have a family, that we are healthy and have our basic needs taken care of. We should never take what we have for granted because somewhere in the world is someone who is just wishing for some food, some water, and some shelter. As I said, I think that one day we can have a world were we are all equal, while there might still be classes of people, i.e. the rich and the poor, but no one will have to deal with landmines and war and refugee camps. Where the world lives in peace, where all races and religions understand one another, and where we all have our basic human rights taken care of. I know it's idealistic, and might not even happen in my lifetime, but someday it just might be true!

About My Writing:

I like to read and write fanfiction, as well as original stories, though they generally don't get very far along. I usually write Romance/Angst, but I read almost anything other than horror or sci-fi and partial supernatural. I don't currently have a favourite TV show. Although, I do like Blue Bloods, Good Witch, Castle, Once Upon A Time, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Reign, Orange is the New Black, Rizzoli & Isles, The Fosters, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Bones. I also liked Crossing Jordan, NCIS (with Ziva), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (with Goren & Eames), McLeod's Daughters, Blue Heelers, Sea Patrol, Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy (with Christina), Xena and Rosemary & Thyme when they were broadcast.

Most of the fics that I write contain a message or simple thought through out them, i.e. The truth is always better than a lie; fight for what you believe in, etc. They always contain some element that is important to me. The reason I base them on television shows is that when I create my own characters, they tend to come off partially unreal and two dimensional. I try to keep these characters as close to their 'real' selves as I can, but some of their quirks and behaviour is almost impossible to keep constant, i.e. Bones lack of understanding of pop-culture references, Gibbs logical and some-what abrasive manner, etc. When I write my own characters they are always 'normal' people who have exceptional compassion, understanding, desire for justice or wishes for a peaceful world. Either way, they are always seen as two dimensional because while they believe so much in one area, other areas are neglected. It's hard to write an original all-rounded character from scratch, well - at least for me it is.
