He lifts to razor to slit the throat, but the man's wife with her yellow hair distracts him. He has known them from before.

Anthony writes to Mr. Todd after his and Johanna's elopement. And Sweeney reads each one.

Mrs. Lovett didn't scream in time. Sweeney slit the young man's throat. But it turned out, it was no young man. It was Johanna.

"That's a throat to slit, my dear," Mrs. Lovett told him. Yet when Sweeney reflects on it, he realizes he can't. He can't kill Anthony.
