Author has written 15 stories for Doctor Who, Fire Emblem, and Torchwood.
Hey there! I'm Flinch Hayward, but you can also call me Saren(eth) or Orrien. I'm 17 years old (my birthday is the 14th December), and I don't care what you think of my age - I know that I can write well, and while it's not perfect, I intend to keep honing my craft. I have never received a flame before, but if you think I deserve one, feel free to give it. I don't mind. Constructive criticism would be more appreciated, though.
I am currently enjoying Film and Video at Newport University (hopefully). I want to be a scriptwriter for TV drama, and I have no plan B. Those without them tend not to need them - if I set out thinking that I could do anything less than succeed, then how would I ever push myself?
I love pushing myself, so feel free to set me challenges.
Link for One Good Reason!
Doctor Who - My first real fandom. I wrote bizarre tales of the 13th Doctor with tiny chapters and got enough reviews to build up my ego. It didn't end well; I left the fandom with bitter regret. It was perhaps too large a fandom for a newbie like me to handle.
Fire Emblem - Wow, hello, tiny fandom. You welcomed me with open arms, and I regret to inform you that I'm currently on hiatus. By which I mean that I won't be updating my fics for the forseeable future. Sorry. I feel a pang of guilt when I get a review for these fics, though, because I do still love the fandom. Maybe we'll see each other again, when I'm a little more grown up and mature enough to take a long relationship.
Torchwood - OH MAN, I LOVE YOU GUYS. You're fantastic. I love you. I love the way that this series encompasses nearly every genre, not just sci-fi; I love the way that I was welcomed despite being a new fan; I love the way that it breaks my heart and keeps me running back for more. TW fandom, never change. Apparently we're known as "Woodies". Having been used to the term Whovian, I can't help but feel that this is a pretty sucky nickname, and I prefer "Torcher" - it sounds more pyromaniacal and less innuendo-laden. Anyway, this fandom is my home now. I intend for it to stay that way.
Stuff that owns my life:
- FANDOM (obviously).
- Writing. I adore creating universes and characters, and I love telling stories.
- Drawing. I love putting pencil to paper and bringing characters to life in a different way to my writing.
- Gaming (RPGs in particular). I'm an avid Nintendo fangirl; you have been warned.
- Music. It varies a lot, but my favourite bands are Thrice, Rise Against, Three Days Grace, Sick Puppies, Linkin Park, The Hoosiers, The Hush Sound, New Found Glory, We Are The Ocean, Rilo Kiley, Matt Nathanson, Chameleon Circuit and Within Temptation.
Characters/Pairings I love:
Frankly, if it's well-written enough, I will support ANYTHING (there was actually a brilliant Owen/Ianto fic I found...) so long as there is some sort of evidence to back it up in canon. "A good shipfic can be written from just one line of dialogue." I agree with this so much. It's one of the reasons I love drabbles so much (though I rarely ever write them). I read fanfics for character insight, above anything else.
But, in the way of pairings, I adore Jack/Ianto (I adore their love/lust dynamic, and think that their relationship is beautiful. I will debate with anybody, anytime, about this.), but I wholeheartedly accept that Jack/Gwen is canon also, and I don't deny that there is something going on there. However, Jack is fantastically selfless, and he wouldn't upset her life with Rhys. So I accept the pairing, but only in a mutually unrequited sort of way. I support Tosh/Owen, but only in the canon way (i.e. unrequited/hidden and totally messed up).
Despite shipping Jack/Ianto like there's no tomorrow, I also wholeheartedly support Jack/Doctor. They have such a fantastic love/hate thing going on. They're my DW OTP, whereas Janto is my TW OTP. And yes, in crossover fics, THEY'RE MY OT3. Particularly (though not exclusively) in Timelord!Ianto fics.
This said, one of my favourite (and so underrated) characters in Torchwood is Andy. And I can't see him getting with anyone, really. So I ship him with Jack in crackfics. Yeah, you heard me. My favourite Doctor Who character (other than the Doctor himself - love 5, 8 and 10 in particular) is Sally Sparrow, who will sadly probably never be heard of again in the series.
Characters/Pairings I dislike:
Rose. She is a Mary Sue, and you will never convince me otherwise (feel free to try, but honestly? When was she EVER depicted as 'flawed'?). Her only redeeming feature in my eyes is that she's responsible for Jack being immortal, and thus the whole Torchwood spin-off. I don't like the way that she constantly fawned over the Doctor (he may have loved her, but I don't believe was never in love with her), and for this reason, I also largely disliked Martha as portrayed in Doctor Who (she was a lot better in Torchwood).
Requited Tosh/Owen. I know this may sound weird, but their relationship was beautiful because they "missed each other". Because they never got their chance. So if you have them playing happy couples, I will not read your fic - in my eyes, you have missed the point.
My favourite fics/authors:
The Twilight Streets - Gary Russell (yes, it's one of the official books, but I love it more than the others)
Solstice Zero (her oneshots are fantastic)
Scarf Warriors (an amazing beta, and an even better - there's a pun there, I think - writer!)
sam_storyteller (on Livejournal - seriously, GO READ HIS STUFF. IT'S AMAZING. I particularly love his re-write script, The Carnival, and The Theory Of Two Centres touched me in more ways than I have words to describe.)
curriejean (also on LJ - amazing, poignant fics. She knows what she's doing. ;D)
Reason To Believe - karaokegal (very short, but very poignant)
Cognition - Redconky (I don't support Tosh/Ianto, but I totally ship this. Nothing happening, but everybody else thinking that something did. XD)
Writing in a Diary - gaia-x-goddess (another drabble. Very, very touching - I'm tempted to write the diary mentioned.)
Time After Time - heteroceric-heart (Beautiful, in-character fix-it fic)
Watching - dragonwrangler (stunningly in-character, and staying the angst line VERY well)
Folding A Thousand Paper Cranes - SycophantOfEvil (Simple, but beautifully believable)

I might be updating the odd fic here and there, but don't expect floods of chapters.
