Author has written 5 stories for Supernatural.
I go by the user name sciencegeek51 because I was born in 1951 and was always the weird kid who liked to read and study nature. Oh, and draw horses all over my notebook...
Hubby and I are very interested in folk & traditional music, especially music associated with maritime themes, like sea shanties and ballads. Hubby has written some fine songs in that vein as well... me, I've only got one song & a couple of nice tunes so far.
We live in western New York State, USA on 70+ acres of pasture land and woodlot and have a small herd of Scottish Highland Cattle. I've also got a nice older Thoroughbred mare who is queen of the pasture. Highlanders may have impressive horns, but they know all too well that horses can bite and kick if they want, so yeah, she's the boss. After me, that is.
My opinions about literature and writing are pretty straightforward and a bit conservative. Storytelling is an truly ancient form of communication. Story writing is just one more refinement of this wonderful art form. And to tell a story effectively, in my opinion, it’s incumbent upon the writer to clearly portray their characters in a consistent fashion and not throw too many curves at the reader without good justification. Proper use of the language, correct spelling and grammar are courtesies that the author uses to show respect for their audience. If the author takes some license with the language and common usage, then it should be done purposefully and to convey an important point or impression that the author want to make.
I'll go a step further and state that in the case of writing fan fiction, it is respectful of the original work’s creator to not have established characters act in ways inconsistent with what has been referred to here and elsewhere as “canon”. This doesn’t mean you can’t push the envelope and explore potential situations, but don’t abuse the graciousness of the creator/writer of the characters by living out your personal fantasies using their creations. Be original... make up your own characters and scenarios for that. Either that, or go out and get a life.
That said, I hope you read my little tales and enjoy. And a review or two would be appreciated... let me know what you think of them. There is always room for improvement and I still find things to tweak in the works that are posted, so I made some revisions to every piece except Fire, this past week. Hopefully it was an improvement. LOL
