Peace and long life.
Yes, I have slowly "grown out" of wearing pointed ears and a Star Fleet officer's tunic out in public... but as far as fantasy movies and TV and kids' favorite book series are concerned, I've never quite grown up. I live a very sane and ordinary life with my patient husband and my two amazing daughters in a small Texas city, but... long ago (1985!), I wrote the odd Star Trek universe story... just for my own fun. I was fascinated with the film character of Lieut. Saavik, and wondered: What brought her to Star Fleet? What would a teenager's daily, ordinary life be like in the 23rd century? (Regrettably, it looks like you might still have to go to school...) Would there be angst? Bad hair days? Guy/girl troubles? Paranoia about exams and evil teachers?
The story is posted complete and generally revised from the 1985 original... though like all Trek stories, there is always tomorrow and a new day. Readers - I hope you've had fun. Reviewers, thank you so much for encouraging and helpful comments; I really would like to know what worked/didn't work for you! ... I realize it's not the standard Trek story, since at times it follows the many other characters I've created for the school planet Akadem; however, it always comes back to Saavik and this time of growth in her life.
I am working on a 15-years-or-so-later story and hope to get a few chapters up before then end of this year (2014).
Live long and prosper.
