I think it's time to update my profile a bit. My name is Monika, I'm twenty-years-old, and I'm a musical theater major.
I've been on this site since I was eleven. I've been posting since I was twelve. My early works certainly reflect my age and inexperience, many of which have been abandoned due to lack of planning. I've been tempted to go back and edit or even delete some, but in the end, I've always decided not to. Hell, I even considered changing my username to match my AO3 account (FanGirlAndProudOfIt), but I'm a little attached. All of it is a reminder of where I was and how far I've come. Maybe even a reassurance to any newcomers that you WILL get better with time.
As such, none of my early works are altered. Maybe someday I'll come back to the unfinished ones. But if I do, they will be completely reworked and posted separately.
So anyone who is new to writing, or is scared that they're not good enough, don't be afraid to put yourselves out there, and take the critiques you may receive.
To anyone out there who might want to rip apart an inexperienced writer, I beg you to refrain. One thing that always made me want to keep posting were the people who gave me positive feedback. Don't be afraid to criticize, but please, don't break their spirit. As for what fanfiction writers want, we want reviews. If you only have two sentences or even two words, please say them, but for those of you who want to, give us essays. Analyse. Point out symbolism. Say everything you want to say. We LOVE that.
Fellow fanfiction writers, I know you're scared to publish and disheartened when you get no response. But remember, for every single review you get, there are a dozen others who want to say something but don't know how. Please don't let anything discourage you.
Share your work. The little pieces of your heart.
These are mine.
