Author has written 3 stories for Merlin. I am amazed at how many fan fiction writers write just for practice so they can improve their language skills in a second, third or fourth language. Writing is a great learning tool. I admire hard work, imagination and creativity. My favorite stories have reinforced the concept over and over again that we are not doomed, there is chance for redemption even for a blackened character such as Morgana's. We choose what our outcome will be. Those outcomes can be many and varied. I was happy there could be other possible outcomes for Merlin and Morgana. There is so much angst between these two in legend and on the show, you will find my characterization (ooc=out of character). I have learned as a beginning writer, it is my prerogative to write them ooc. That being said, I have found I enjoy the mergana stories where character canon in the show is utilized. The story of Arthur, his knights , Merlin, and Morgana are quite intriguing. It is a great story as there are so many good things about it. Jackie Kennedy, wife to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, our 35th American president, serving from 1961 -1963, referred to her husbands term in office as “Camelot” and tried to promote and apply the principals of Camelot, an ideal kingdom where everyone is treated fairly and justly. I admire her for her efforts. I love Richard Harris's rendition of the song “Camelot”when he called it a place “for happily ever aftering”, in the musical “Camelot”, starring him and Vanessa Redgrave. Sadly, the middle to the end of that version is quite depressing. Sigh I am a major die hard Mergana shipper but did not start out that way Watching the original series and finishing it. I hated Morgana's character. However, I saw snippets, pictures and interviews of Katie McGrath and Colin Morgan at the 2012 Comicon in San Diego, California along with “The Lady” magazine shoot, Colin and Katie did together, and a cover photo for Entertainment weekly that showed Colin and Katie together. I have been following their career on the internet since then. In all their projects, I have never seen them happier with anyone else than they are together. As I looked at interviews, photos and clips on the internet and Merlin fan fiction on several sites, I noticed others, even Colin and Katie have a similar attitude to me. It drove home the fact that the character of Morgana on the Merlin series was the writers and producers fictional point of view. As I looked at legend, I noticed the show loosely follow legend and use artistic license, imagination and interpretation. Sadly, there was not much redemption for characters, specifically, Morgana, in the show. I love stories of redemption. I also love epic adventure and romance like Avalantia's “Reforged and Sublimated” , and it's sequel, “Reawakening”. I highly recommend them as they are great stories. I don't like slash. In real life, Katie and Colin are great friends. There are some web posts, and web sites, interviews, you tube videos and fan fiction that suggest they are more than friends. There are interviews and pictures of these two that are not manipulations that also suggest they are more than friends and in many cases dating, engaged or even married. After seeing and reading all of this, it is my opinion, Colin and Katie are great friends. While I and many others hope they become happily married, have beautiful children, and use their influence for good, the entertainment industry points to the chance of this happening being very slim as actors rarely have successful marriages or happy lives. Reading Merlin fan fiction is a great place to sow the seeds of imagination, get rid of frustration and improve language skills. Some of it is really well done. Other stories are not so well done. Most of the fan fiction has major mistakes in it. I find myself correcting spelling, grammar and sentence structure in my head as I read. It helps me enjoy the story more. My favorite authors indicate the research and effort they have put into the stories they write. I check their sources and find many have based their stories on fact. To me Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath have brought the characters of Merlin and Morgana to life more than any other actors in any other production of Arthurian legend. Bravo for their talent , dedication and work. Sadly they do not have a happy ending. There is so much angst between these two in legend and on the show that just broke my romantic heart. To satisfy my own need for a happy ending, I wrote this tag onto the end of Duchess Emma's “All's Fair”. If you don't like the Mergana ship. You may not want to read this. If you have any ideas how to make this better, I am open to suggestion. I love happy endings. Call me altruistic. I want every one to have a happy ending, myself included. I learned from Tony Robbins the definition of desire. “de” in Latin means “of”. “Sire”, in Latin means “Father.” If you get good desires, they are “of the Father”. More plainly, good desires come from Heavenly Father. if you write good things down that you really desire, good things that you really want to have happen, will happen. I have put this principal to the test many times and continue to use it to help me achieve goals. |
