Pet Peeves, Things I Like, Quotes, and Stuff:
A character suddenly realizing that a person they had always referred to by their last name is now referred to by their first name in their own thoughts, thus indicating some sort of emotional attachment - normally of a romantic variety -, is one of the most idiotic devices ever, especially as this change is often sudden and entirely out of character.
I despise how, in the Potter-verse, people act as if the Houses are the defining factor in one's personality. If something is devious, it must be Slytherin. If someone is stubborn, it is often attributed to Gryffindor. Granted, the Houses are based on personality traits, but those traits are much more limited than what people want to allow. Gryffindor is brave and chivalrous; nothing else. Slytherin is ambitious, cunning, pure-blood, and has a tendency to value the 'ends justifies the means' philosophy; nothing else. Ravenclaw is educated, intelligent, and has a thirst for knowledge; nothing else. Hufflepuff was loyal, hard-working, just, and patient before the fifth book in which J.K. Rowling tossed that out the window and made it the house for the spineless, dumb, and lack-luster. I chose to act like that never happened.
The wizarding world featured in Rowling's world is tiny. Britain has a total of one school, one hospital, one bank, and one (horribly abusive) prison. It's school is ridiculously tiny, even if the building itself is large. There are only 8 people in Harry's year in Gryffindor! (J.K. has come up with some bull about how of course there are more even though they are never mentioned or even hinted at for the entirety of the books.) The way their society is set up is rather absurd with such a small population.
This profile is not completed. Obviously. Hopefully, I'll get around to it soon. Maybe not. =)
