Author has written 6 stories for Dragon Ball Z. Some people say that you shouldn't care about fictional stories, worlds or characters because they aren't real. Hey everyone Literal here, I'm from New Zealand and for some basic information about me, my name is James, I'm 27 years old and I enjoy watching Anime with some of my favorites being Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho and Erased. I have a passion for Dragon Ball Z especially and I have a few ideas for some Dragon Ball Z stories that I'm looking forward to publishing here, which I'll list down below with a description so please check them out if you're interested! With my stories I aim to create plots that have both a familiar and innovative approach to them, where I can improve upon the source material without taking away what makes it distinctive in the process. Anyway that's all from me, so good reading! Top 10 Dragon Ball Z Characters 1. Vegeta 2. Gohan 3. Android Eighteen 4. Krillin 5. Mirai Trunks 6. Piccolo 7. Goku 8. Tien 9. Bardock 10. Cell Top 5 Dragon Ball Z Fights 1. Goku vs Vegeta (Saiyan Saga) 2. Gohan vs Perfect Cell 3. Goku vs Frieza 4. Vegeta vs Android Eighteen 5. Piccolo vs Android Seventeen Facing the Future - Complete Technically a K18 fic but with a traditional Dragon Ball Z story thrown into the mix, making for an interesting combination of emotional beats alongside some good old fashioned fighting. The story takes place roughly a year and a half after the ending of the Cell arc and is primarily told from Android Eighteen's point of view, though Android Seventeen and Mirai Trunks feature prominently as well, with Krillin acting in an important secondary role. The main focus of the story is to explore Eighteen's connection to the future timeline and her knowledge of her alternate counterpart, addressing a plot thread that was unfortunately left out in the main show. At the same time the story will also focus on Eighteen's relationship with Krillin, and her growing feelings for him which is the primary motivator for the whole plot. So if you're looking for a Dragon Ball Z story that focuses on post Cell plot threads, along with some K18 development, you should definitely check this one out. Vengeance Granted - Complete Vengeance Granted is an alternate take on the Dragon Ball Super: Resurrection F Saga, and will be a substantial rewrite of the plot, whilst retaining core elements of its overall story. Frieza has a clearer goal in mind, and combined with a smarter approach towards exacting his revenge, his threat to the main cast will be heightened significantly, meaning that Goku, Vegeta and their allies will have to work harder in order to save the earth. Another focus of this story is the side characters, and ones like Gohan, Piccolo, Eighteen and others will each be given their own moments, contributing to the story in their own way, considering the saga is well suited for their involvement. If you're looking for a story with a classic villain and a massively revamped arc for Dragon Ball Super, this one is worth a read. Dragon Ball Z: New Future - In-Progress This a my first big project that I have for a full blown story, and is the work that I am currently writing for. This story is based on when Future Trunks and Future Mai decide to travel back to a new timeline in Super, except instead of returning to just before Goku Black appears, they choose to be sent back to before mecha Frieza and King Cold arrive, so that they can prevent the destruction that was caused by the Androids as well. As such, the story will start at the beginning of the Android saga but will diverge somewhat from the other timelines, keeping things familiar whilst also creating a few changes for our two time travelers. At a rough guess this story could hit 200,000 words or more and I'll try to keep a relatively consistent schedule for it, though I make no promises. Dragon Ball Z: Reawakened - Planned This is the biggest project I have planned, and is a full rewrite of the entire Dragon Ball Z plot, making a multitude of changes that I believe would make for an interesting retelling of the classic Dragon Ball Z story. I will be making some decent changes to the plot of Dragon Ball Z in the areas, however I will try to keep things roughly in line with the original story. Also a big aim of mine is to include a lot more of the characters in the plot and make all of their contributions worthwhile, even the less powerful fighters who were somewhat neglected previously, such as Raditz, Yamcha, Tien and eventually those like the Androids and Videl. This story will probably be massive with 300,000 words as the bare minimum, so it will be a big task but I'm looking forward to it regardless! Personal Literary Terminologies These are my literary terms that I have personally invented myself for various tropes I have seen in literature, movies and other story based works. Each one may already have an official term for it but currently I am not aware of any that do, and regardless I find it helpful to create things like this in order to correlate my thoughts and opinions on certain aspects of a story. VIP A VIP is something I’ve found very common in fanfiction specifically, but is something I've also seen a lot in television shows and movies as well. What I refer to as a VIP is when a specific character’s development is practically foregone for the sake of getting them to where they need to be in the story, and this is usually done with characters who need some form of redemption or development arc in order for them to progress through the plot. Authors who create a VIP often skip any progression entirely and this often leaves readers unsatisfied or confused due to the sudden and unconvincing change. The reason I have referred to this term as a VIP is because I see it as the author recognizing the character's importance to their story, and like a VIP they rush the character through their journey in favor of the end goal, which can be quite detrimental to a story's overall pacing and plot progression as the whole point of character development is to actually develop the character. Authors should try to focus less on what the character will become in the future, and instead focus on who the character is currently, allowing them to act out their development and progress to that future self naturally, because overall it is the journey not the destination which is more important in a story. Highway A Highway is a term that can only be pertained to fanfiction, as it refers to how a fanfic author writes their story compared to the original work. This is when an author doesn't change all that much in their fanfic or when they do, the changes have very little impact on the original plot or events, leaving it relatively the same and not adding anything substantial to it's overall plot. Authors can take this even further by glossing over important character moments or scenes, due to them being unwilling to change it so they instead leave it the exact same as how it happened in the original, meaning that large sections of plot is left unwritten in a story that only focuses on the changes made. This only adds to the lack of impact the changes actually have and can leave readers questioning why they should bother reading your work if it is practically the same as the original. The reason I have named this term the Highway is because I've linked it to an analogy where the author is the 'driver', in which they may change lanes all they want on the road they travel, yet it doesn't change the overall route they take nor the points they pass through. This analogy highlights that a Highway story will likely be predictable, as the journey is already preset and whatever small adjustments you make will have a negligible effect on the plot as whole. To avoid your story becoming a Highway you should opt to take an 'offramp', and find an entirely different route to the end destination. This can be much more entertaining for readers and will keep them more engaged with a story that has a clear deviation from the original. It's like the great stories, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing this shadow, even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for. R.I.P Akira Toriyama, creator of the beloved Dragon Ball story. |
