Hello there. I am INTJ.
Well then... about me.
I tend to think through my reviews. That leads to my tendency of choosing not to criticise stories that I find many faults with. In the majority of cases I facepalm then close the tab that story was open in. -_-
From my experience, it takes near as much effort to write a good review as writing an entire scene in a story, I'm usually too lax.
Sometimes, if a story has interesting points I may write a large detailed review for the first chapter then leave little mundane, banal comments for any other chapters, especially if writing quality doesn't noticeably change.
This is a little personal trait of mine, based upon my idea basically summed up as:
"I'll tell him what I feel is wrong, but not too times. That would discourage him from writing, which means he won't improve."
There is no real point in offering so much criticism that you drive an author away from a story, even too much well meaning advice may place too much pressure on an author as they feel obligated to write at a level they cannot reach.
I'm all for building a pretty house, but if you tear down the foundations before they are set, you'll never see any progress.
Reviews are actually a point I feel fairly strongly about, reviews on FFN seem to take two extremes, i.e;
"gr8t story bru looking 4ward for moar"
"Sucks, stop writing."
The middle ground doesn't seem much better in the majority of cases;
"X should've beaten y" (I was unfortunately guilty of this before I matured a little.)
A constructive critique is most important to a writer and I don't even mean something as short as a 100 word paragraph, though that would be preferred as a minimum. Just make several small points when writing reviews, even if it is just a couple of words, e.g. saying "Love your characterisation", "Hate your setting" "character x would be better if a > b" is better than a general statement encouraging or discouraging further writing.
Why do you like a work? Why do you dislike it? (The latter doesn't need expansion in most cases actually)
Some more info
I'm Australian, I spend most of my online time here actually, reading stories that is, not editing my profile.
I'm all for console gaming, usually FPS but I can play just about anything except sport games (Why play sports games when you could play sport? Too much effort? Well that sorta the point of sport...)
I plays tennis recreationally and read alot of novels as well.
I'm amazed at how many people on Fanfiction.net are superior in composing quality to some publishing authors... I swear, if some of the better AU authors decided to publish, they'd be bestsellers straight away! (Please don't though, cause then I would have to pay for your works! =_=)
That is, of course, during the times that I am not staring off into space after reading PTSD inducting BAD fanfics.
I spend nowadays reading alot of Manga and occasionally watching some less mainstream animes.
This section below is likely to be updated, assume new info is current to last time profile was updated.
Well the Negima and Nanoha stories are on the backburner, I've been bitten by the Touhou bug.
History of Phantasm is all set out, but needs to be written, which'll take a while.
Also have written 5 chapters of a Touhou/ZnT story, that might also surface sometime before February 2013.
