Leave it to the Winchester boys to turn a simple salt-and-burn into life-or-death bullshit. Bobby wants to scold the two brothers, but he needs to get Sam out of danger first before he can bitch at him. Today, when Sam had tripped and fallen awkwardly on his arm playing tag with Dean, Dean had immediately frozen and screamed for help. It was like the illusion of safety at Bobby's had been shattered in an instant. From the tone in his voice, Bobby was afraid Sam had lost a limb, not broken one.

Dean half carries him down to the panic room, hating every step. If there was any way to avoid this, make it easier for Sam, for Dean to take his place… But his brother is going to have to suffer, and Dean is going to have to try to drink away the cavern that's been ripped open in his chest. When Bobby swiped the Impala's distributor cap before the boys could run after Lilith without him, asking simply, "Where do you think you're going?" it was far from the first time he'd met Dean and his obsession with doing everything on his own with those exact actions and words.

Sam struggles with visions of Hell, fighting to maintain his grip on reality. Dean hates that he can't protect his brother from what isn't real—but curse him if he doesn't try. When the boys stumble on a case with ties to the Devil himself, will they be able to pull themselves together in time to stop the sacrifices? Or will the echoes of Hell finally overtake them?

What starts as Sam and Dean's innocent childhood game ends in a realization for John, one that may change everything about his hunt for the monster that killed Mary. Sam is 8; Dean is 12.

Of all the ways to go, this was by far the best possible option. No pain, no fear. Just Sam and Dean, staring death in the face, calm and determined in the almost spiritual silence of a peaceful spot far from everywhere. Together.

Sam was fully prepared to spend his first Christmas at Stanford by himself in his dorm. That was, until Dean showed up at the coffee shop Sam worked at and asked for a coffee in a flavor he hated just so he could check in on his little brother.

A bloody, unconscious Sam is taken to a small clinic by strangers. When he wakes up, he's not himself. It's up to Dean to track him down and bring him back physically and psychologically. Spoilers up to 7.03

Dean's constant drinking comes back to haunt him when he does something he actually has good cause to feel guilty about for once: he drives under the influence and very nearly runs over a child. But the child is lucky: Sam pushed him out of the way.

Post 6.22. Dean finds himself with one broken arm, one broken car, and one broken brother. But they've had worse. With Sam safe, alive, and with him, they can handle it. Right? Turns out he doesn't know the half of it.

A simple salt and burn proves to be anything but simple, and Sam and Dean will be tested to the limits of their endurance. Ch 9 up. Story completed.

They get the spirit but not before Dean gets a little pummeled. Mostly a h/c piece with a capital C.

Here he was alive and in…well, somewhere flat America, head pounding, flying over asphalt, in bright sun, staring at Dean who was making stupid noises at having his head rubbed. Sam was here, all of him, soul included, but something had changed.

It's winter in Minnesota and there's a pretty angry werewolf on the loose. Dean and Sam are on the case, but they can't be bothered to bring anything as important as supplies - just guns.

"Everything has to die sometime, Sam." A fill for a challenge prompt. Meant to be h/c, but has a lot of horror in it too.

It starts with music and goes downhill from there. There's something wrong in Sam's head.

Watching Dean sit vigil over an injured Sam, Bobby muses on family and trust.

When Sam is mildly poisoned, Dean has to deal with the aftermath of a drunken-state brother who decided to take candy from a stranger. Takes place during the second half of Season 6.
