Author has written 2 stories for Harry Potter.
Hi, I'm xRiddleMeThisx, and I actually decided to write a profile for any of you who are bored or would like to know a bit more about me:
I'm a 21 year old college student who reads entirely too much. I love most any kind of book, from the classics to science fiction, but I have a particular passion for fantasy. In fact, I enjoy reading so much that I really would like to write my own book one day and perhaps add to someone else’s enjoyment for a change. I admit it here, though – I am, by no means, a writer. Despite the fact that I am in college, I have never properly learned about the art of creative writing. (Truth be told, I’m more of a science geek). I consider myself to be quite the novice when it comes to writing stories. I do enjoy it, though, and like to practice. So, that’s why I’m here: to practice creative writing and learn a bit about it in the process.
I’m currently writing my first story, How Times Change. It’s a Tom Riddle/Hermione Granger fic – and don’t go ‘Ew! That’s just nasty!’ – I think the pairing in general is rather charming. Anyway, I’m quite proud of myself, simply because I’ve committed myself to this story and written almost 40,000 words so far. I actually have most of the story planned out, and if things go the way I want, it will end up being at least twice as long as this. I’m thinking around 30 chapters or so.
I apologize because, usually, I have little time to write and updates are few and far between (don’t blame me, blame higher education). However, I’m currently on summer vacation, so having no time to write is no longer an excuse. (Well, at least until September, that is). I’ve made a bet with myself that I can turn out a new chapter every two weeks. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that I will lose that bet sooner or later (for what cost I do not yet know)... but hey, one can never be too optimistic, can they?
Of course, I must add here that I’m so happy that people are reading my story and enjoying it. Like every other fanfiction writer out there, I love to get reviews (really, they make my day). I like to hear whatever people have to say, really. Constructive criticism is great because then I know how to fix my work and improve my skills for the future. So thank you to everyone who has taken the time to leave me a message!
Before I go I feel that I should, like every other well-established fanfiction author, mention my favorite pairings. (Why people find that interesting, I’ll never know, but I admit I enjoy scrolling down people’s lists myself). If you couldn’t tell, my favorite is Tom/Hermione. I also really enjoy Snape/Hermione, Lupin/Hermione, and Sirius/Hermione. (As you can tell, I like reading about Hermione). For some reason, though, I don’t like reading about Draco/Hermione or Ron/Hermione. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Draco and Ron as characters, but I don’t find them very interesting to read about. It’s like that with Tonks and Ginny, too. I read almost exclusively Harry Potter fanfiction, though will occasionally dabble in some other random categories. Perhaps one of these days I will add stories and authors to my favorites lists, but I’m feeling a bit too lazy to do anything at the moment.
UPDATE - 6/24/09
So I realize I've been gone for a few months too many. My last updates were in October and August? Yeah, that's something that I'm not proud of. I'll admit, I was lazy for a while... school and work were getting busier, and I was finding that I had very little time to write, BUT, I was writing. I had actually written a lot - the next chapter of Far From Home and the next TWO chapters for How Times Change. Why are they not posted, you ask? Well, I wasn't quite happy with them yet, and I was still editing, but they were going to be up soon. And then trouble hit.
My computer crashed. My lovely, wonderful, reliable computer just completely died, and I tried to resuscitate it, but it was no use. My computer and all the files that were on it were gone, lost into oblivion.
Great. Just great. I really needed that, you know? So for a while I was pretty much consumed with dealing with this disaster, getting back files and music and pictures and everything... buying a new computer... It was a while before I remembered that I had all my chapters and notes saved on my computer. If you've ever lost something you've been working on, you know how I felt - how could I write something over again? I felt that it just wasn't as good the second time around. It took me a while, but I finally forced myself to sit down and try and remember bits and pieces of what I lost. Eventually, some stuff got put back together and I added some more, and ta-da - here's chapter four of Far From Home.
I'll admit, I haven't tackled How Times Change yet, but I promise I will. Especially because I'm still getting feedback and alerts for that one, even after a year since my last update.
So, the take home story of today - always back up your files on an external hard drive. If you don't have one, invest in it. I promise you, it's worth it. Also, I promise that an update for How Times change will come next, and very soon. I want to keep working on these stories and I will - it's just hard to start up again once you've been away for so long.
