Author has written 18 stories for Naruto, Halo, Harry Potter, Birdy the Mighty, Ranma, Legend of Korra, Dragon Ball Z, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Avengers, Avatar: Last Airbender, and Hellblazer. Well, where to start? I'm the writer formerly known as Sarcastic Avenger. Why the change after ten years on the site? The old handle just didn't quite feel like me anymore. Times changed, and I guess somewhere along the line I changed too. The old moniker felt like a mask that didn't fit anymore. I think that the sort of affectation I put on, of an ironic demeanor, and sarcastic tone, were a way to try to remain detached from circumstances I never could really feel a part of, a way to avoid vulnerability. But enough of that dreary aside. You came here wanting to find out a bit more about the author. And unfortunately, I've never been much of the sharing type. Once upon a time, I had these big dreams about fighting the good fight and changing the world. Now I'm just surviving in it. Still never found a lost cause I didn't take a shine to. I like anime, though not much of what's airing lately. I enjoy prog rock and metal. Besides writing, I read a lot. In fiction, mostly speculative: Yukito Kishiro, Iain M. Banks and Michael Moorcock left an indelible impression on me. When I'm not reading fiction, I indulge in books on politics, art criticism, Soviet history. When I write, I'm usually heavily caffeinated. The local cafe has helped produce many of these ficts I leave the old stuff up to remind myself that I am getting better at writing fiction, though I at times it really doesn't feel like it. Current Projects How Many Seconds In Eternity (Ranma 1/2): This one is a newer idea, and something I'd always said I'd never do. It's a sort of AU redux of the series, with the yuri dialed up and remixed with a mystery box style framing device. And I haven't had this much fun writing a fic, like ever. Low on angst, higher on the canon typical hijinks and the kind of warm fluffiness I can't help but exude. It is basically my love letter to the 25 year-old English language fanfiction community for Ranma 1/2, and you might find references to some deep cuts. Speed is Life (She Ra and the Princesses of Power): The problem with mundane AUs, like the omnipresent coffeeshop AU, is that they often take characters from a high-stakes setting and drop them in a low stakes setting. Inspired by random insomniac thoughts, this one answers the burning question that no one ever asked: what if Adora and Catra were Cold War fighter pilots? Read if you thought that Top Gun would be improved with even more homoeroticism. Though, I must confess, this one isn't actually a mundane AU because...spoilers. Veterans of the Long War (Marvel Cinematic Universe): Taking a bit of a note about Black Widow's back story in comics then going my own way at it. Natasha-focused mental (un)wellness tour about a unrepentant Soviet supersoldier/spy outliving all her hopes and dreams thanks to the wonders of the super soldier serum. Because femme fatales with more emotional baggage than a tour bus are fun to write. On Hiatus Amor Fati (Ranma 1/2): I think I've learned more writing this one than anything else, both in terms in the technique of writing a scene and constructing a story, as well as interpreting a source text. I sort of have an awkward relationship writing this one, because I've always been constantly straining against my gut reaction in writing. And I'm such a different person from when I first plotted it out, it's a struggle at times to continue. When I began writing it, to put it bluntly I was in a very bad place both in terms of life circumstances as well as mental/emotional stability. And I struggled to against my melancholy to keep the angst down, and inject moments of levity and release. Years later, and I find myself struggling in the other direction, not having my heart in it to subject these characters to the level of angst the plot commits to. But I digress; it's not dead, and the succeeding chapters are slowly coming together. Returning in 2022. In Defense of Lost Causes (Legend of Korra): A Red Lotus!Korra AU, cribbing heavily on the tumultuous history of rebellions and revolutions in 19th and 20th century Europe. Also fun to write, but in a more serious way (if that makes any sense at all). Kind of a passion project; I studied political philosophy in college, and I use that and the history of various mass movements as a world building resource. I've also tried to take a different take on the Red Lotus Korra AU, exploring Korra's passion as well as her own internal conflict. Also has yuri themes because I can't seem to help myself. Returning after I finish something. |
