8/05/14: STILL ALIVE YO
Wow it's literally been a year since I wrote anything here
Made a new blog where I'm going to (hopefully) be posting my new writing! I'll post here if I ever write anything worth posting, but the blog is going to be for ideas, sketches, stuff that isn't edited and that I might continue or not, depending on my mood.
I may or may not also be planning something involving SINHEART. Maybe. No promises.
It's "deusexmarmaroth" because "marmaroth" was taken and I think I'm clever. See you there!
holy shit, The Rare Gem has 100 subscribers, that makes me way happier than it should
8/14/13: I'M ALIVE?!
I know, it's weird, but I've finally updated SINHEART. Enjoy -and please don't kill me-
2/3/13 SPECIAL NOTE: CLEANUP
I've deleted some of the old fics that made me want to vomit when I read them--namely the "Ten Things to Do" series and "Keep DREAMING" (which was discontinued anyway).
7/22/12 SPECIAL NOTE: USERNAME CHANGE
I am the user formerly known as n a g a s h i . n o . k u r o.

Favorite types of fanfiction:
-see my tumblr
-I love well-written OC fics. Special stress is placed on the well-written part. (See my "10 Tips for OC Writers" below.)
-Time travel fics, what if fics (what if Jiraiya had taken better care of Naruto, what if Snape had mentored Harry, what if Tsuna had a twin brother, etc.), fix-it fics. Good writing is still important, though.
-Note: some of my favorites/favorite authors probably no longer reflect my likes since I favorited most of them a loooooong time ago.
I remember seeing something like this years ago and thinking it was really useful as an FF rookie, so here's
MARMAROTH'S HANDY-DANDY GUIDE TO FANFICTION TERMS*
*using mostly Harry Potter examples because a lot of people know the series.
more will be added as I think of them.
fanfiction: stories written by fans of a certain book/TV show/movie/game/cartoon/etc. about that...thing's...characters, plot, world, etc. Often shortened to "fanfic" or "fic" or "ff."
fandom: the characters/plot/general obsession over that book/TV show/movie/game/cartoon/etc. Harry Potter is a fandom. So is Naruto, Bleach, Twilight...
pairing: the romantic couple involved in a fanfiction or fandom, usually denoted by "x" or "/" or just by connecting names*. Ex: HarryxGinny, HarryGinny, Harry/Ginny. *some pairings also have special "nicknames." Ex: SeverusxHarry is often denoted as "Snarry."
ship: v. to obsess/fanboy/fangirl over or really really like a pairing
OTP: stands for "one true pairing"--means your favorite pairing or the best one you can think of
yaoi: Japanese term for boy-on-boy love, usually involves some kind of sexual situation
slash: term for boy-on-boy love
shounen-ai: Japanese term for boy-on-boy love, usually simple and innocent--limited to holding hands, kissing, etc.
yuri: Japanese term for girl-on-girl love, usually involves some kind of sexual situation
shoujo-ai: Japanese term for girl-on-girl love, usually simple and innocent--limited to holding hands, kissing, etc.
AU: stands for "Alternate Universe," means the fanfiction involves the characters of the fandom in a different world/dimension/situation--for example, a high school AU of Harry Potter means Harry, Hermione, and Ron go to a normal high school instead of Hogwarts and Hogwarts may not exist
canon: 1. adj means that whatever is being described actually happens in the official fandom. For example, HarryxGinny is canon. HarryxHermione is not. In the Twilight canon universe, Bella becomes a vampire. 2. n refers to the actual fandom, or what actually happened in the fandom. In a non-canon fic--or a fic that "doesn't follow" the canon--Bella may stay human.
crack: describes fanfiction that is crazy or out of the normal, written purely for fun because it's not supposed to make sense. May also be used to describe pairings of people who would never actually get together in the real series--like HarryxDumbledore. Yes, it exists.
fluff: describes really cute romance/friendship/family scenes.
lime: describes implied sexual situations
lemon: describes actual sexual situations
OC: stands for "original character," used in the ff context when the author inserts his/her own unique character into the canon
OOC: stands for "out of character," means that in a fic a character acted/spoke a certain way that he/she normally wouldn't in the actual canon (note: do not confuse with "OC")
Mary Sue: a female OC who's so perfect it's unbelievable and disgusting and causes other characters around them to become OOC. "Perfection" is pretty arbitrary though, so it's hard to judge this unless it's also paired with terrible writing. People also accuse the concept as designed to discourage writers from creating strong female characters in general.
Gary Stu: a male OC who's so perfect it's unbelievable and disgusting; the male equivalent of a Mary Sue. It's rarer to see this criticism in reviews, and it tends to happen more with canon characters (think overpowered Harry Potter or Godlike!Naruto, etc.) Then again, it can be claimed that most male protagonists are already Gary Stus to a certain extent...
-centric: means that the fic is centered around a certain character(s), focusing on that character's development/thoughts/life/etc.; can also imply that a certain character is being pursued romantically by multiple people in the fic
