'Gideon has been trained to take care of his brother since Gabriel was born (though Gideon was two at the time and thoroughly unimpressed by the pink, squalling thing in his mother's arms), so he steps back, holds the door open, and says, "Come inside, then."' Gideon and Gabriel in CP2, before Gabriel falls asleep on his brother's bed, unaware of the great scone stash beneath it.

'"Guilt is powerful," he said. "It has teeth and claws and once it sinks them into you, it doesn't let go. You'll spend the rest of your life wondering what you could've done differently. I know guilt, Alec, and you don't want to do this to yourself."' Max dies. Alec doesn't fall apart, but only because Magnus holds him together.

""Let me see," he said, more gently, as he pried Kili's hand away from his head. He had expected blood, or at least a painful lump. What he found instead sent an anger hotter than any forge boiling in his belly." Kili is bullied, Fili rearranges some teeth, and Thorin's attempts at comfort are infused with the harsh lessons he must teach his nephews.

"Magnus had said warlocks were avaricious, possessive beings. Well, Alec wasn't a warlock, but he'd be damned if he let anyone touch the best thing that had ever happened to him." The one where warlocks are being murdered, Magnus is a target, and Alec really isn't supposed to be getting involved (but does anyway).

Kink meme fill, no pairings. "And yet he thinks that maybe this is the moment that defines them as a team – the one where Barton has a goddamn seizure in the shawarma joint and the rest of them panic and run around like headless chickens."

One hundred and fifty one-sentence Magnus/Alec fics - everything from angst to crack to pure fluff. "I don't think writing 'Property of Magnus Bane' on the back of my jeans is the 'subtle sign of possession' you were looking for."

Post-City of Lost Souls, Alec finally cracks and takes out his frustrations on an innocent bystander. To be fair, though, his father kind of deserves it.

Magnus is attractively arrogant. Alec is horrendously sick for two days, but he gets to be right for once, so it's worth it. "We should call it a holiday. 'The Day Alec Was Right and Magnus Was Wrong'."

Five-year-old Max makes a great discovery. Nobody is impressed, least of all Alec. It ends very tragically - or not tragically at all, depending on your point of view.

Sequel to Payment. When Magnus told him "In nine or ten years, come find me and then we'll talk," he probably hadn't meant "Nearly get yourself killed by a Greater Demon so I have to heal you again." Alec was better at this when he was nine.

Magnus is all about color. Alec isn't, though not for lack of trying. "If you ever get fired from being High Warlock, you'll have a lucrative career as the paint person in a Home Depot or something."

Two-shot. When the Shadowhunter from the party doesn't call, Magnus sulks, and Chairman Meow attempts to matchmake two people who are desperately in need of his help. Even when they're not.

"There were some experiences that just couldn't be bought, and being shyly hit on by a drowsy nine-year-old was one of them." Because I am in love with the concept of Magnus and Alec meeting long before the party.

Robert gets rocks thrown at him, Valentine is occasionally not a total sociopath, and Max almost ends up being named 'Templeton' - in short, eleven people who impacted Maryse Lightwood's life, in one way or another.

Post City of Ashes, Magnus/Alec. "Jace was one thing, but this – I cannot, in all good conscience, pretend this isn’t going to affect our relationship."

Preseries. "It's tragic," Isabelle says, "but you've been demoted to family pillow. Deal."
