MPreg: It is biologically impossible!! A man is not in possession of a uterus! Therefore is not capable of carrying a baby for 9 months!
AU: Not bad in small proportions... But I'm not a fan of OTT AU. A good writer should be able to adapt their story to the boundaries of that particular fandom, and not feel the need to overly stretch them to accomodate their story.
OOC: I prefer the characters in fanfictions to be as true to the existing character as possible. Although, OOC is not bad in small doses, the characters have been written a certain way for a reason by the writers of their respective shows. If you want the character to act differently then show the transition between how they have been written and how you wish them to be, I hate it when the character is suddenly drastically different from the Show/Book/Movie with no explanation as to why.
SLASH: My ADDICTION! Well, with the right characters. You can't, for example, have a serious homophobe jump out of the closet and be as camp as musicals within the space of a few hours/days. (Fair enough if you show a transition... Be patient, don't rush straight into a new dimension of a character without giving it serious thought)
Grammar, Spelling & Punctuation: As mentioned in my profile above, I am a total grammar/spelling/punctuation freak... If you aren't a good speller or don't know how to use correct punctuation and/or grammar, then PLEASE hire a Beta reader. This site is crawling with people who would willingly agree to Beta someone's work and it makes all the difference. If you don't want a Beta, at least run your story/chapter through MS Word or a program with a spell/grammar check!
Character Death: Although I'm hesitant to read Fics that include a main character's death (Especially Nicky & Greg.. I can't stand when someone hurts my boys!) I will read them eventually since sometimes you need a good dramatic/angsty piece. In certain cases I welcome character death, mostly in the cases of Peyton (CSI: New York,) Ecklie (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and Martha (Doctor Who.) Just because I dislike them immensely. =)
Smut: Well written it can be an amazing addition to a story. I find it better to analyse your work before just throwing a smut scene in anywhere, since it could ruin a piece. Eg. If you've written a cute fluffy piece and then the characters go off having NC-17 sex it just doesn't fit... Well, usually anyway. ;)
Fluff: You just can't beat a well written piece of fluff. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy and, well, fluffy inside. =)
SongFic's: Personally, I skip through any lyrics that are put in a story... I don't even realise I'm doing it anymore! I do hate it when people put in lyrics that have nothing to do with the way the story is going, I see it as a hopeless way of trying to add to the chapter/story's word count.
Americanisms, etc: I cannot stand it when I'm reading a Harry Potter or Doctor Who fic and I see a word like 'Sidewalk' or 'Flashlight'. These fandoms are set in ENGLAND!! It is not a sidewalk, it is a pavement! And it is not a flashlight, it is a torch! I think it is selfish when people don't have the courtesy to adapt their language to the fandom they are writing for. This isn't based solely at the Yanks... I am talking to my fellow Brit's too... If the fandom you are writing for is American (Or any other country for that matter) then it is common courtesy to adapt your language. I am aware that sometimes it is necessary to use foreign terms. For example, When captain Jack Harkness is speaking in a Doctor Who fic. So overall, adapt your language to the context and perspective of the story!
I am addicted to Greg&Nick CSI FanFics. They are THE cutest should-be couple on the planet!
Targeted - Mac Taylor's Apartment: here.
03-07-2008 - The Rascal Flatts Collection:
This is the new series of one-shots I will be writing after I have completed Targeted.
As the title suggests, each story will loosely follow the lyrics of a Rascal Flatts songs.
So there should be roughly 61 installments to it... Although some are difficult to base around Nicky & Greg, I shall do my best. =)
