Hey there, my name is Blaise Guy... my pen name would be Blaise, if a certain Harry Potter book hadn't inspired so many others to use the name, so instead, I use a loose representation of my full name in romanji. Because I'm cool.
I may make some things in the future - but am mostly here to review and/or do Betas for people. I edit well.
I'll see y'all around the fanfiction site, then... mostly in the Naruto section...
-My relation to the site-
I planned at one stage to write something... but in all honesty, I really don't know where I would start, and it would probably come out as some horrible mutated cow clone of someone else's fanfic, so I will keep to my reviews and attempt to affect other peoples' opinions through them (and hell, personal messages as well)
I'm a 17 year old guy living in Australia. I've finished school at last, woohoo, have been doing a "Diploma of Screen (Digital Animation)" at TAFE for the year... It's been going great and hopefully I'll get a real job sometime after.
I happen to have something of an addiction to anime. I have a list of anime/mangas that I've watched/read. Here, let me paste the .txt file here.
Afro Samurai - 5 episodes, is an EXCELLENT anime with Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of "Afro", the main character. Haha, man, he really IS in everything...
Ah! My Goddess (Manga) - 228 chapters (up to current), about 4500 pages of comic-style reading. It's a series of fillers.
Bleach (anime, but have stopped watching at about ep110) - I got bored of the shonen anime genre, it's all "raaaaargh I'm stronger now and win this fight, oh look, a STRONGER opponent! raaaa..."
Blood - The Last Vampire (Movie) - it was a good movie, if I had the time (hmm... which I do, come to think of it, hint hint to those who desperately need a Beta) I'd watch the Blood Plus series
Claymore - some 20 episodes long or so, it was kinda good, I wouldn't watch it again, though
Deathnote (Manga) - it was good, want a spoiler? I can give you a spoiler if you want, you anime whores, hell, I can give you like, seven.
Dragon Ball/Z/GT (+ maybe 7 movies; Dragon Ball is questionable as to how much I've seen) - yeah... um, needless to say, like many boys of the 1990 generation, I liked this anime and watched it (for those Australians out there) on CHEESE TV, not your shitty Toasted Telly or whatever the hell that is... but yeah, some 450 episodesish maybe
Elfen Lied - one of the best and most heart-wrenching series I've seen, would watch again, do occaisionally watch the like, last episode or something when she hugs him and the music wells up when I feel like crying. It's like, 13 episodes long or something
Eureka Seven - about 50 episodes long, crappy epilogue (...or prologue... damn it, the thing AFTER the story that says what's happening AFTERWARDS)
Fate/Stay Night - some 25 episodes long or something, it was rather excellent, I watched it just before watching Claymore, while watching Claymore I was shocked at the similarities and was all like :O
Full Metal Alchemist (+ Movie) - BEST. ANIME. EVER. I don't know, you can say otherwise, but I thought it was pretty damned excellent, 50 episodes long and each one has something of value in it. I suppose there are a few "filler" episodes, but they do show the world and how everything is... it's like those big describey paragraphs in peoples' stories, you know the ones!!
Ghost in the Shell (Both Movies) - Good, but confusing. Especially the second one where they start doing the rewind mind trip thing. I was like woooaaaaaahhh...
Goshuushou-sama Nimiyoma-kun - "My condolences, Mr. Nimiyoma my good male friend." - basically a perverted anime made for people without relationships. Involves many etchi situations, blah. 13 episodes long or something, not much else to say. Oh, "there is TWO of ussss" from Strongbad could be used to describe what might happen later in the series had they had a better epilogue? Anyways... MOVING ON!
Gravitation - 13 episodesish long, again... I watched this purely because of a CD my brother (four years older than me, he and I haven't seen each other physically in like, a year or something... damn...) got of his Asian friend. It was J-Pop by "Nittle Grasper" and "Bad Luck" on a CD titled "Gravitation Greatest Hits", or something along those lines. Probably not one of my favourite animes, but for me, it pulled through with the music. Warning: do not watch the dubbed series!
Green Green - see "Goshuushou-sama Nimiyoma-kun"
Kami-sama Kazokou - um... Well, there's this kid who's God's son, and it's basically a love story. About 13 episodes long if my memory and general knowledge of anime still work.
Myself, Yourself - See "Kami-sama Kazokou" and replace "God's son" with "been away for like, 5 years", and add "but issues develop and what could happen in those five years he has been missing?" after "and it's basically a love story"
Naruto (First series + All Manga + probably 30FFs...) - OK. Yeah. Shit. All 220ish episodes watched, then like, the first episode of Shippuden. I've also read all of the 385 chapters, coming so an approximate 6000 pages read there. For those of you who don't know anything about Naruto, I suggest you watch some of it... it's good...ish... oh, and with Naruto, I happen to like the idea of a NaruHina pairing but cry since I think Kishimoto's trying to get Sakura with him : /
Neon Genesis: Evangaleon (+ Movie) - It's like, 8 episodes long or something? I don't remember... so long ago... Basically, all I can say is "I liked it until it started getting weird." And hell... "CONGRATULATIONS! CONGRATULATIONS! AND FROM ALL THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, CONGRATULATIONS!" is not how I expected that anime to damn well end. The movie, putting it's "I'm so fucked up" at the end just made me sit there and scratch my scalp trying to get to the memories to tear them out so I could sleep that night... grargh!
Paprika (Movie) - This was like... I dunno... the Matrix on drugs. It was excellent, I'll give it that, and also had a damn catchy song for it's soundtrack - "The Girl in Byakkoya"
Ranma 1/2 (Manga) - It's a series of fillers (yes, fillers IN THE MANGA!) but it was a good waste of time. It's an action comedy with various events taking place that slowly lead to a big climactic ending. Some... I dunno... shit. I don't remember how many chapters. But I remember the folder was 666MB in file size! (more than 200 I think)
Samurai Champloo - about 25 episodes long, I think? It's another action comedy, much like Ranma 1/2, that much more quickly comes to a climactic ending. The fighting animation is rather excellent and that alone is worth a quick looksy for the aspiring animator.
Shura no Toki - HAHAHAHA, I just remembered this like, quick draw attack where he hit the guy's fist and then kicked him in the head... as well as various other moments in the anime that I loved. It's some 26 episodes long, and is an action-action comedy. It follows... three? Four? I think three guys' sort of paths that show the "Way of the Shura", I guess. They are fighters that use no weapons in comparison to most who, obviously, would use swords or spears and such in the times of the samurai.
Speed Grapher - "girls on film... two minutes laat--girls on film...", best anime opening theme ever in my opinion. It's some 25 episodes long or something like, and is an excellent anime showing the path of someone whose life is put on the line while in the line of his duty as a photographer for some newspaper. Long story short, he fights for someone he loves by using the power to blow things up with his camera. Well... it's an implosion, but "blow up" doesn't really mean "explode" now, does it? MOVING ON!
Spirited Away (Movie) - excellently animated movie, I forget the plotline and everything though :(
Spriggan (Movie) - Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen, until about like, 2/3 of the way through when that kid started talking about destiny or something, that just shat me off having to wait through the storyline-driver when I should just be watching my big bloody battle with the cool protagonist.
Steamboy (Movie) - was a good movie... a kid uses the power of Steam! Only adventure can follow when he tries to stop the evil superpowers of the world!
Tales of EarthSea (Movie + 1st two books) - I couldn't read the third book when I'd already watched the movie... but I did enjoy the "Tales of EarthSea", so to speak...
Ushimo High - Um... same as Green Green, kinda. With swimsuits.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (Movie) - I can not remember it very well, but it was excellent, I remember that much.
So yeah, I've been watching a lot of anime and reading a lot of manga!
I've probably wasted some months of time watching anime and reading manga... I mean, let's see, Naruto alone is like... 200 hours or watching and reading. Eureka 7 and Full Metal Alchemist take up about 50 hours combined...
mmmhmm... this could add up to a lot.
Still doesn't hold a candle to my 40 days of playing WoW though. God.
So, shit, yeah... that's a lot. I've kinda weened out of the Shonen anime scene. Because the plot line never changes! It's like "RAAAAAR I AM STRONGER NOW I WIN HAHAHAHAHA OH NO THERE IS ANOTHER RAAAAAR NOW I'M STRONGER THAN EVEN HIM AN..."
It's like a reverse slinky of power levels, going up and up in jumps... shudder
If you've reached this point, or skipped the big "ANIME/MANGA" part, let me tell you a bit more about... well, me, and not the animes I've watched, hmm?
I'm a 17 year old pacifistic nerd who likes anime and computer games. One day, I hope to design said computer games, however, that is but a dream.
It'd be nice, though.
I live with my parents, which is suitable enough while doing tertuary study.
I have a bit of an obsession with Japan, and am passively learning it through anime, while slowly trying to teach myself over the internet.
I can type well and effectively, and can spot a spelling or grammar mistake a mile away (please, don't take the above ranting during the anime section to be of ANY reference to how well I can edit.)
I, however, can not bullshit, nor can I write creatively (or so I further dig myself into the whole of THINKING that I can not write creatively), and so I barely passed English, since I couldn't bullshit my way up to the six hundred word limit or something. I would write what I wanted to write on the subject, and stop at some point.
Not only this, but nothing was done on computer due to, god forbid, using WORD to SPELLCHECK. Jesus I hated that. I can spell, I'm not four and I don't pointlessly rush things so fast that I spell things incorrectly. Oh, but the point about that that angered me? I don't write very fast at all, that was another part of nearly failing, because on the rare occasion that I would be able to bullshit on, or found more things to write about, I simply could not write fast enough in the given time limit.
People call me an idiot and a genius, which is a bit of a paradox, no? If you've watched Paprika, you could say I'm a bit like the, err, overweight doctor. I am very childish at times, and am also fairly lazy when it comes to... well, anything that doesn't interest me. That's probably why I started to fail in school! I wantED to be a games programmer. Then I realized that being a games programmer would mean a lot of math and hard work (this realization, of course, came AFTER I'd chosen Maths B, C, and physics as subjects for years 11 and 12) and that being a games animator or designer would be a lot more fun! So, I lost interest in the math subjects... but I passed with C's and B's and ended school with an OP12, slightly above average. Eh, that's what I was aiming for, really... better than three of my friends who ended with 20s (ouch!)
Mmmm... well, I suppose there's nothing much else I want to say without turning into some kinda sentimental, emotional wreck about how my life's going nowhere and how I have a job at McDonald's that I'll probably never get out of unless I somehow find a company to love me and nurture me into a fully functional worker hopefully in the games industry.
So yeah, I edited and changed this slightly, making sure that things were kept up to date and such. (05/06/08)
I suppose I could add in that I want a love life at some stage, and still have yet to have kissed a girl (...sigh I'm mostly straight, but have made out with a guy... it would be nice to have a real kiss sometime, though.)
(Oh, and don't be a stranger. Message me or whatever, I'm reasonably lonely and bored with my life, give me something to do!)
