Urrrrrrrrrrgh! I just need to let out my fustrations here. It really, really fustrates me when authors describe Harry as a small, tiny little boy as if Nutrient Potions and Growth Potions don't exist. And then there are some instances where they do exist, but they don't work. I mean, come on, there is just no excuse for them not working, Dursleys or not. His magic would want him to reach his full height and stature, as that would be when he is magically at his best - if Harry had been abused or neglected at the Dursleys, which he was, Pomfrey would immediately pick up on it like she is trained to do, and would help Harry heal - physically, mentally and spiritually. If she is the mother-dragon of the Hospital Wing, she would break through any enchantments cast upon her by Dumbledore in Dumbles-bashing fics and make sure Harry was healed.
The small, tiny Harry thing also leads to the fact that his romantic relationships often have a hint of dominant/submissive about them. No relationship, no exceptions, can survive on that. I mean, come on, how can it work out? Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question.
Something else that bothers me is when Harry is paired with Draco or Ginny - any hint of it and my stomach churns and I get away from the fic in question as fast as possible as if it had burned me. I love older-Harry-back-in-time fics, but so many of them are Harry paired with Ginny it's just unbelievable. I abso-fucking-lutely (scuse my language) hate the Deathly Hallows epilogue, and Harry's infatuation with her in Half-Blood Prince. It would only be like that if he was consuming a Love Potion, because you never just suddenly develop the hugest crush in the history of the world ever faster than you can say "Quidditch". It slowly builds over a long period of time, and besides, Ginny has a crush on the Boy-Who-Lived, not Harry. They really don't know each other that well for it to be anything more.
Something I read on another author's profile. It touched me deeply.
I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian.
