My former pen name was Atalanta's Muse. These days I'm more into gardening than running, so I changed it. Vanessa Atalanta is the scientific name for the Red Admiral butterfly, a species common to North America.
Hmmm... What is there to say about me? Well, I love books. Mostly manga and fantasy with some focus on mythology and folklore. My favorite authors include J.R.R. Tolkin, Andre Norton (author of The Crystal Gryphon, Gryphon in Glory, and Gryphon's Eyrie), Sherwood Smith (author of The Crown and Court Duet), Diana Whaine Jones (The Dark Lord of Derkholm, Year of the Griffin, Howl's Moving Castle...), J.K. Rowling (guess), Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials), Tamora Pierce (anything to do with Tortall and the surrounding countries), Jane Austin (Pride and Prejudice), Ray Bradbury (Fahrenheit 451 and Dandelion Wine), Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles, which I highly recommend), Yumi Tamura (Basara, 7 Seeds), Kyoko Hikawa (From Far Away/Kanata Kara, Otogi Moyou Ayanishiki, Miriam), and Taeko Watanabe (Kaze Hikaru). Throw in some Charles Dickens, Madeleine L'Engle, Marguerite Henry, and an obscene amount of craft, art, reference, and cookbooks, and you have my bookshelf. Or...shelves. [this list was updated April 2014.]
I've noticed that when I reach a block in one story, it's because another yarn has come to mind and is distracting me. If it's good, I write it down as fast as I can, then try to get back on track with my previous plot line. Still, it's fun to look at a story and remember how some of the juicier details occurred to me.

OK, this bunny if from Elkian's profile. It was so funny that I looked at the rest, and picked the ones that applied.
/98 percent of teens do or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2 percent who hasn't, copy & paste this in your profile./
/92 percent of American teens would die if Abercombie and Fitch told them it was uncool to breathe. Copy this in your profile if you would be the 8 percent that would be laughing your ass off.\
/If you think that those stupid kids should just give that forsaken little Trix rabbit some Trix, copy this into your profile.\
If you think that Thor would win in a fight with Hercules, copy and paste this into your profile.
First off, if we're talking Norse god Thor, then duh. Thor is a GOD, whereas Hercules is a DEMI-god. GOD. DEMI-god. Thor is in a whole different weight class.
Jeez, it's been a LONG time since I updated this thing, but I wanted to tell anyone who comes looking that I have not died. Just begun the process of learning how to be an adult ( =_=;).
I love writing, but it's incredibly difficult for me to finish stories (or papers, or artwork) because I am forever searching for just the right way to say something (I guess?). Also, my muse is quite the fickle butterfly (Aesop, 'The Rose and the Butterfly'). Recently I've come to the conclusion that, since I do this for pleasure and I do have to grow up and make a living, I should just post the things I've got and update as it (my muse) comes. To anyone who is waiting for more chapters from a particular story, I apologize. I will get to it eventually, but there's really no way to tell when that will be. That aside, I love to receive reviews and comments. I forward them to that butterfly. And sometimes--sometimes--it writes back!
