“To write something, you have to risk making a fool of yourself.”
CONTACT: The best way to contact me is through PM if you have a fanfiction account. If you do not, then please do not hesitate to go to my tumblr - I'm always ALWAYS there; feel free to start a conversation with me there. In fact, go there before ffn. I'll reply quicker.
Currently: (16 Dec 2014 at 3:17AMCST) I made it through the semester and am one step closer to a degree in English. Huzzah! Hoping to update Foray and Introspection during the break, but no promises. Wish me luck!
Actively Writing: Zima and Foray
Hikami42 is the shared account of my best friend (Yami-Sama42, the author of The Genesis of a Generation’s sister story, Generation Genesis) and I; we write Sonic fanfics together.
General: No need to ask me if you can draw fanart for my stories! Go for it! Just make sure to tell me about it so I can put a link to it here. Share the love!
You guys honor me so much with all of your art skillz. (I can't draw a straight line.) I cannot even express the amount of thanks I want give each and every one of these people, so, in a feeble attempt to express my deepest gratitude, links to your pictures will forever be on my profile. Go give these a look and shower your praises on these people!
The Genesis of a Generation:
CloudyCrayon has decided to do a series of pictures based off of scenes in TGoaG. In an attempt to keep some semblance of order when it comes to them, I'll be listing them in chapter order. They are all insanely adorable and you should go look and squee with me!
Taken Hostage is a perfect representation of the desperation of this scene in chapter 19.
The following pictures were drawn by other folks, but they are just as amazing! Thank you so much again!
You're safe with me T2 is a lovely picture that was drawn by Darkwingfan. (Also based on chapter 36.)
(If the links are broken for whatever reason, shoot me a PM and I'll fix it. :D )
Currently: I am a poor college student named Ashley fighting her way to an English major. I'm currently a junior at a major university and I hope to get into an MFA program for creative writing once I graduate, but for now I’m busy with an overbearing amount of homework, and the multiple fanfictions I have going. I operate on a system of priorities – family, homework, fics – and my life is one big list that just keeps getting longer. However, I would not have it any other way.
In the Future: I've been writing for seven years and it’s become a large piece of my life. I can’t see myself doing anything different, so I hope to become a novelist. I’m currently working on the plot of a novel, but my focus is being pulled in multiple directions and I cannot get more than a few pages written before I decide to scrap the whole thing and start over.
My fics: are about Sonic the Hedgehog. I take pride in original ideas and twisting cliches. My focus is the bigger picture - the domesticity of life and the deeper meanings that come from the deeper reflections of characters. I get uncomfortably inside heads and focus on inner motivations while also fleshing out characters to be more rounded.
What does this mean for Sonic? He is not a jerk. He lives in the Workshop. He considers himself a big brother and protective figure in Tails' life. He is sarcastic. He is not jaded. He mumbles in his sleep. He's obnoxious and difficult when ill. He is humbly prideful. He has profound thoughts and a large vocabulary. He reads. He sits still and has deep conversations with his few friends. He is not stir crazy after a few seconds of laying on the couch. He likes idleness and enjoys mundane moments because his life is one big adventure after another and even he needs a break. He runs. And runs. And runs. Not away, but toward. Toward his friends, his destiny, and his fate. He's not disjointed or emotionally separate from his situations. Did I mention that he's not a jerk?
My longer plots are usually involved while still being linear. My focus is usually on oneshot collections, as I like to form a larger story out of smaller ones. However, I do write continuous tales as well. No romance. No OCs. Game-verse is my bible. Sonic and Tails brotherly to the end. Also, the OVA rocks my socks.
NEWS BULLETIN – only the most important news updates are here. Make sure you give them a look so you can know what’s going on.
-08-08-13 - Removed all of my multi-chapter Alvin and the Chipmunk stories. If you have any desire to see them (they are literally the bane of my existence), contact me and I will give you the link to my old deviantART account, where they survive in full. For now.
-10-17-12 – Cut my profile down because it was getting too cluttered. Only the most important stuff remains!
-09-06-12 - The Genesis of a Generation is a year old today! Woah... I've never had a story that's lasted this long... Many thanks to everyone that's read and offered me encouraging words! It wouldn't still be going without you!
-07-22-12 - All chapters of TGoaG are currently under maintenance. I've finally become annoyed enough with the typos to go and address them. I'm also adding three lines of buffer space between the end of the notes and the new review box; also, end of chapter notes to add finality before the ending author's notes.
I would like to extend a thousand thanks to everyone who has read, fav'd, watched, and reviewed TGoaG. Truly, you make writing it worth it.
So, how’d you come up with your pen name?
Long story is long. Go here to read the whole thing.
In what order should I read your stories?
I have so many people ask me this on tumblr, I usually answer with something like this.
What’s your update schedule?
Sporadic and random. I write when inspiration hits, not so much when I want to. That being said, I have been trying to put something up every weekend. Most of the time, it’s a oneshot or a drabble and not a major update, and lately there hasn't been much in the way of updates, but I'm trying. *shakes fist* Right now, my focus is purely on Foray, simply because The Genesis of a Generation's plot has required constant revision and vigilance! since I started it and I want to wrestle it into submission before I post another chapter. If you would like to know for sure when the next chapter is coming up, send me a PM. I don't bite. ;D
Got any recommendations?
I’ve been around the block a few times when it comes to the Sonic archive, and I can pretty much talk about all of the major (older) fics by name. However, for brevity, I’m only putting up a few fics that I think every Sonic writer/reader should look at.
Rising Star by JudasFm – whether you’re new or you’ve been living under a rock, you need to read this one. It is one of the most well known Sonic fics, and for good reason. Spot on characterization, beautiful brotherly bonding between Sonic and Tails, and it stays perfectly true to Sonic 2.
I don’t favorite lightly, so any of the stories in my favorites are winners. These are the specific ones that left a very deep impact on me.
Will you review my story?
I’d love too, but I’m so busy… ;.; It all depends on what’s going on in my life that specific week, so PM me and I’ll see what I can do!
I love all of my stories and I think you should read all of them, but I’ve noticed that a lot of people come around and they don’t exactly feel like reading through the meta that is The Genesis of a Generation for hours on end, so I’ve decided to lump my stories into groups so you can easily find what you’re looking for.
My deepest thanks to you for visiting my profile. I hope you enjoy my work and appreciate my efforts to get better with every word that I type.
Reviews are cherished.
