After an unexpected encounter on the night of the dinner party, Margaret tries to understand her new feelings for Mr Thornton amidst the trials of life in Milton. A mid canon retelling of North and South with more kissing.

As Thornton battles bitterly with Margaret's rejection, and she in turn struggles to come to terms with her true feelings for the northern mill owner, an ailing Mrs Hale decides to intervene. Will her final gift to her daughter be enough to save this classic couple?

This is a retelling of Gaskell's North and South, but with a twist. At the beginning of our story, when Margaret is propositioned by Henry Lennox, she feels obligated to agree. (I've used a bit of poetic license with her reasons). Anyway, Margaret marries Lennox and then goes to visit her parents a few months later, as they have moved north. What will happen when she meets John?

This story begins just after Margaret's father has died. With no one showing her any sympathy, what will happen when Mr Thornton is the only person to treat her with genuine kindness?

Sometimes darkness brings enlightenment. Soon after John Thornton's first proposal, our heroine begins to realize that the master of Marlborough Mills isn't the problem. North & South from (mostly) Margaret Hale's POV. I tend to stick mostly to the novel, but there will be glimmers of the 2004 BBC adaptation, too. (Thanks for the feedback! After Mr. Hale's death, Mr. Bell plans the funeral in Oxford. Margaret cannot bear not saying goodbye to her father, and must ask Mr. Thornton if he will allow her to accompany him to the funeral. Book Based for the most part.

Margaret and Mr. Thornton gradually get to know each other better. With conversation, balls, politics, and Fanny.

Aware that Margaret's grief extends beyond the recent death of her parents, Mr. Bell feels compelled to intervene on her behalf. He attempts to force the two lover's together before they are ready to confess their feelings.
