Updates (five most recent)
June 28th, 2014: Yeah, I don't really exist here anymore. So many other projects have taken up my time that I haven't really found the drive to get back to L.U.S.T. I'm not calling it dropped yet, but don't hold your breath.
Sept 4th, 2013: Hey kiddos! I have a job now. I know updates have been slow lately as I've still been busy as well as having trouble writing, but this could affect the speed further. Don't know yet. I'll keep you posted if I can.
July 23rd, 2013: I'm finished university! Unfortunately that does not mean I'm less busy. I've found time to write here and there, but things are still pretty slow.
April 11th, 2013: In light of a few messages I've gotten lately, I figured it was worth making a note here that the reason I haven't updated lately is because I'm busy with uni work. If you want the full rant it's on my tumblr, but suffice to say I don't know how often I'll be able to update. Asking will basically get you an uninformative answer.
Jan 1st, 2012: Happy New Year, folks! I know I said I'd like to update L.U.S.T. before Christmas, but I ended up being a lot busier over the holiday than expected, and so I haven't had as much time to write as I've wanted. I promise I'm still working on the chapter, but no estimate on when it'll be done... hang tight!
A sort of FAQ thing (last updated Sept 4th, 2013)
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO UPDATE?
I don't know. I'm typically very busy and often have writer's block. Every chapter in my author's notes I try to include a quick explanation of what's going on in my life, and you can usually find slightly more up-to-date information on my tumblr (username ravenandfox), but circumstances change quickly and I can't predict everything. Please be patient!
Are you going to do a sequel for Two Face like you said you might?
No. At this point Two Face is far enough in my past that it's no longer my focus, and the more I look at it the more I see its flaws. If you really want to know what happens, there's a quickly written epilogue on my tumblr. The reason it isn't uploaded on FFN is because I'm not happy with the quality of writing, but as events go it's pretty solid. Just check the "Two Face" tag on my blog (not on tumblr's main tag search; that would be significantly harder to find) and it should be there.
I've read all of L.U.S.T. and I still don't know what it stands for! Are you ever going to tell us?
It's in there! The full version of the acronym is stated, in exact words, in chapter eleven. Look more closely!
Can I make fanart, fanfic, or podfic of your fic?
Absolutely! Please link me when you're done so I can love you forever and post a link in the fic too!
How do you moderate anonymous reviews?
I respect people's opinions and cherish criticism, and I will approve pretty much any anonymous review. The only things I refuse to approve are a] groundless flames with no real relevance to the story and b] hate speech and anything that's offensive towards minorities or otherwise. I might amend this later but I really hope there's nothing else out there that I have to filter. In addition, if you ask me a question through an anonymous review, I really hope you don't expect me to answer. You can send me a PM here or, if you absolutely must be anonymous, send me an ask on tumblr, which I can reply to publicly if anonymous and publicly or privately if not.
I guessed one of your sketch questions right and you promised me art! Where's my art?
Eek! I probably forgot. Please please pester me about it until I get it done! I'm terrible about this kind of thing! I should make a list of things I owe people.
I'm working on a fic! Will you beta for me/read my WIP/first chapter/whole fic and help me out?
Though I go by the saying "never say never," most of the time I barely have to write my own fic, let alone beta for others. I'm a terrible teacher and my writing is mostly haphazard guesswork and a feel for what's right, so chances are I wouldn't know where to begin in helping you! So unfortunately I won't be taking any beta or reading requests.
Okay, but what if I just have a small question about grammar or characterization?
Small questions I'm more than happy to answer! Not sure how to punctuate a sentence? Wondering when it's appropriate to use semicolons? Want my take on what a character would do in a certain situation? Shoot me a PM! I may ask for clarification on a question. The more detail, the better! Note that I don't really interact with the fandom as much as I used to, so my understanding of characterization may have gotten a bit hazy over time.
Can you put a link to my fic in your next author's notes?
I will post links to relevant stuff - works based off my own, works that inspired me, stuff like that - but I'm a writer, not a billboard. My fics are not a place for advertisement.
Common Comments in Reviews: There are some types of comments I get over and over again in my reviews. My answer doesn't often change for these. See below if you're considering saying one of the following:
Sasuke and Naruto do X in your fic, so it's a SasuNaru and not a NaruSasu like you said.
For one thing, I barely differentiate between the two anymore; I use "SasuNaru" as a catch-all term. For another, while you may believe that sex is the sole indicator of whose name ought to be first in the pairing, I don't feel the same way. To me, if it must be distinguished, it depends on whose personality is more dominant.
I found a couple of mistakes in your fic, but otherwise it's good.
Thank you for letting me know! I'd appreciate if you could point me to said mistakes specifically. I usually don't revisit published fics to comb for errors. If you could tell me specifically where and what the error is, it'll make things a lot easier for me.
Call me RF! I'm a 22-year-old female Canadian animator. SasuNaru is the pairing that got me into shipping, and I automatically attribute all aspects of romance/love to them, so the vast majority of my writing will be for that pairing. I've written them for so long that I know them much better than any other character out there. On the downside, they've also developed in my mind beyond what could be considered in-character for the canon story, but because of that path they still feel in-character for me. This means I sometimes struggle to keep them in-character in a way that everyone agrees with.
I'm hoping to turn my focus to original characters and stories, as well as continuing to explore the world of fanfiction. I'm also an avid Homestuck and hope to write fics for that someday too.
I seem to have a tendency to write a lot of PWPs and the occasional long story. I tend to distinguish between "Porn Without Plot" and "Plot With Porn." Sometimes I write one-shots that involve lemons as a significant event, but there's still plot involved. Other times I just write plotless smut for the lulz. Lately, however, I've been finding lemons more difficult to write in an interesting way. Soon I'm going to have to stop using them as a crutch to support all my not-quite-plot-ful story ideas.
As for the longer stories, they typically range between ten thousand and... uh, over 300,000 words. Cough.
Artwork (last updated September 5th, 2011)
Now and then I issue mini challenges to my readers wherein, if they identify the source of a reference I use in one of my stories (usually chapter titles), they get to request a sketch from me. And sometimes I just draw fanart for the fun of it. I'll collect them here because it seems to be the only place where FF.net allows full links! Copy and paste them into your browser's address bar to view.
Challenge: guess where the title for chapter 13 of L.U.S.T. came from.
Answer: Say (All I Need) by OneRepublic
Request: Takeshi and Shiroi doing whatever. I sketched them on the subway in Japan thanks to being inspired by my travels. (The one drawn in blue is Shiroi; the red one is Takeshi.)
Sketch of what my OC Yamashita Katsumi, a.k.a. Blue, looks like.
After a post I made on tumblr on whether a fic ought to be called SasuNaru and NaruSasu just because of who topped, this felt apt.
I featured this quick sketch in my blog. It's the design of the fox pendant Sasuke wears in Two Face. I haven't drawn the raven one yet.
These weren't challenge rewards, but rather just quick sketches of raven!Sasuke and fox!Naruto following my fanfic "Erogenous." I did these in pen in about ten minutes each, and with the intent of killing time rather than actually producing art, so there are stupid mistakes that, yes, I am aware of.
Challenge: Guess who Araragi in Two Face is named after.
Answer: Araragi Koyomi, the main character in the anime Bakemonogatari
Request: Sasuke and Naruto as ANBU
Challenge: Guess the name of the song Naruto and Sasuke are singing at the club in chapter 95 of Two Face. (I gave two hints: one, that it's somewhat related to Bakemonogatari, and two, that it's by the artist supercell.)
Answer: LOVE & ROLL
Request: anything SasuNaru, so I did a quick fight scene.
Challenge: Guess the source of the title for "Gotcha Stuck In My Elevator."
Answer: It's a little bit derived, but it comes from the song Elevator by Flo-Rida.
Request: a SasuNaru Shippuuden kiss
Challenge: Guess the source of the title of chapter 61 in Two Face, "Dancer In the Street."
Answer: It's the name of a track in the soundtrack for the game Subarashiki Kono Sekai, also known as The World Ends With You.
Winner: musa uchiha
Request: SasuNaru sketch
