As you can see, I have no stories listed as posted here. That’s not because I’m not an author but because I refuse to post on this site any longer. The reason for that? It’s two fold actually….
The first reason is that, after a great deal of soul searching and debate with myself, as well as talking it over with some others, I've came to the rather monumental decision of pulling all my work after seeing kids as young as 12 and 13(they list their ages on their profiles clearly so there is no doubt how old they are) sign up for alerts on my story Fallen Angel, and others. Those were M rated for a REASON, not just to put it as M for the giggles, and with me having no effective way of blocking them from reading it or recourse to get them to stop, I've decided that I will no longer post on sites that have no safeguard against that kind of thing. FanFictionnet is one of those places, sadly. They don’t allow MA rated stories to start with so I cut the MA stuff to even post here, a step that wasn’t well liked to start with, but even as M the kids were reading them. As there is no way to get ffnet to stop them, I pulled them.
The second reason is the fact that this site does nothing to protect the authors that are its lifeblood. The fact that, so many times, they can’t be ‘bothered’ do anything about stories that are out and out plagiarized, tending to only down them once people have to gang up then do a mass reporting telling me they don’t give a fiddler’s darn about it. That’s wrong, no matter how you look at it. And cases I’m talking about are not probably but blatant, such as direct copy and pasting of another authors work, clearly stating in their profile the story isn’t theirs, plagiarizing published authors, etc. There is no quibble that these are legit cases but they can’t seem to pull the works unless you gather a mass of people to report the stuff. That is wrong, no matter how you look at it. I cannot, in good conscience, post on a place that takes such a lax stance on plagiarism as I’ve had such a thing happen to me multiple times. So, I refuse to post on a site that can’t and won’t do anything about it. I don’t care how big this site is, how many hits, reviews, whatever you get, I won’t do it.
There are plenty of other sites on the web that do their level best to protect the authors that post there and that’s where you’ll find me. All my stuff is posted between my yahoo group, WWOMB, AFF, Dokuga, Sinful Desires and The Sam and Dean Slash archive. All are easily, and quickly, findable with a Google search. If you can’t be bothered to do that, it’s your issue, not mine nor will I mourn the loss of your readership or reviews. This isn’t an author’s entitlement issue but an issue about protecting work we spend many hours on from theft and the eyes of beings that have no business looking at it. If you can’t understand that, I’m sorry but I won’t change my decision on the matter.
