Author has written 37 stories for Burn Notice, Stargate: Atlantis, Chuck, NCIS, Castle, and Dresden Files. What a wonderful resource we have here in FanFiction.net. I want to thank the owners of the site for giving us this wonderful playground in which to share our stories. I write because I have to. The chance to share the stories with someone else is just a bonus. The first fiction I have ever written that I have let people read (other than stories I wrote for classes in High School or College) are posted here on FanFiction. I do want to thank everyone who reviews my stories, however. The reviews make the labor of love that much sweeter. All reviews are welcome, especially those that aim to help me improve my craft through constructive criticism. On behalf of myself and all the other writers here on FF, PLEASE WRITE REVIEWS. There is nothing more disheartening than pouring yourself into a chapter, seeing that you got 500 hits, and you have 3 reviews. Even a 'good job' is better than nothing at all, but the best reviews say what you liked, what you didn't like, and contain any suggestions for improvement. I have the skin of a rhinoceros so bad reviews don't phase me, but if you are going to tear into some other author, best to do it in a PM, not in a posted review. It's kinder. (Not that I am advocating tearing into anyone). I have made some new friends through my writing here on FanFiction (and theirs). That is even better than the satisfaction of writing itself. My favorite current TV shows, as you can tell from my stories, are Castle, Chuck, Burn Notice, White Collar and NCIS. My favorite authors are Jim Butcher (the Dresden Files), Janet Evanovich (the Stephanie Plum series) and John Ringo (the Legacy of the Aldenata). Of older works, I am a longtime fan of Isaac Asimov and J.R.R. Tolkien. A word or two (okay, several ) about my writing. I am what could charitably be called a hack writer. I write very quickly. I will never turn out the Great American Novel or anything that could be called Great Literature. I think I have a pretty good ear for dialogue but do not have the Way With Words that many of my fellow FanFiction authors have (some of their descriptive passages border on the lyrical and some may actually cross that border). I figure that you read FanFiction because you like these characters so I will always endeavor to keep the characters 'in character' and try to capture their essence in the stories (unless I warn you beforehand to the contrary). My spelling is atrocious but thank goodness for spell check on the word processor. My grammar is considerably better thanks to several years in Catholic school having grammar drilled into me by the nuns (I can still do a credible job of diagramming sentences). If the secret to great writing is, as they say, edit-edit-edit, then I will never be a great writer. I write it, I read it over once to catch the mistakes and then send it off. Fortunately, I have found a friend/proofreader/editor here on FanFiction, Poa, who generally looks over my stuff before it is posted when she's not off galavanting around the world. To her I am eternally grateful. I have decided, however, that it's time to try and improve my writing. If you would like to help, then tell me what you really think of my stories. What worked and what didn't. Where they could be improved. Be brutally honest. I will not be offended. And yes, that is a picture of my son and dog as my icon. The son is now older (8 years old) and the dog has passed on, but I love that picture. I participated in a Round Robin story writing project for Chuck with some truly exceptional authors. Check out the Authors Intersect: http://www.fanfiction.net/~authorsintersect. It's completed now. I wrote the first and last chapters. That's me. The bookends. If you are only going to read one of my stories, I would suggest "Chuck versus Broken Dreams." It's the story that means the most to me and is, I think, my best story. |
