This is one take on how season 8 SHOULD have gone. Elizabeth's eyes are opened by an incident at the saloon and a chance encounter with Constable Grant. Word of caution- I despise Lucas, so his character developement will be far from flattering.

This is my Nov Stories from the Heart submission prompt challenge story in honor of Remembrance Day. Hope Valley deals with events from the past while also dealing with WWI which hits some close to home. As the town rallies around each other, they embark on a journey of rediscovery, and sacrifice and realize the importance of honoring the past to appreciate the present and future.

It was an epic embrace that was meant to be. But, it was followed by something much greater: a Higher Power melding their two hearts together to heal and create a formidable, boundless love to last the ages, along with a blessed life together that neither Nathan nor Elizabeth could have imagined! The lesson? Always be open to God's blessings!

This is what I saw happening after season 7 ended and after some season 8 spoilers started being announced. With season 8 already airing I know that this not accurate to the current story line regarding Nathan and Elizabeth's love and families.

What if the connection to Fort Clay reveals heroes, sacrifice & serving with integrity & honor? Maybe it tells of ambition & a cover-up, yet unveils to all Hope Valley the heart of a humble man? Maybe the great love story between Constable Nathan Grant & Elizabeth Thornton can grow if they open their hearts to hidden truths & then learn together to sing a joyful song of the heart?

After the disastrous S8 (especially the finale), this story would not leave me alone. I couldn't imagine Bill Avery just accepting Elizabeth's decision. This is my very first fanfic, so please be gentle. I will always be on Team Nathan, so Team Lucas fans, may wish to give this a pass. It will involve Elizabeth and for those who don't want to think of that anymore I understand , but for my own sake I have to write this.
