One rainy day, when I was about eleven or twelve, I was whining to my mother because I was bored. Like many beleagured mothers before her, she told me to go read a book. When I fussed about not having any new books to read, she looked at me and, with a stroke of genius, said, "Go write a book!"
Intrigued, I went and got some notebook paper and trudged back to my bedroom. Several minutes later, I returned to whine some more, complaining because I didn't know what to write. Mom sighed and replied, "Remember that movie that we watched the other night? The one with the ending you hated? Go write a new ending!"
I don't think I tried to rewrite the ending of that movie but I was inspired. I loved writing then and I still love writing. Limericks, poems, plays, stories. If only I had more time...
