Hello friend! My name is Maddy. I wrote a lot of fanfiction in high school and pretty much just write it for the attention at this point. Take note: MY SOLE REASON FOR REMAINING ON THIS SITE IS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO REVIEW. Readers that leave reviews give me a reason to write in ways that numbers never could. So if you like what you read, PLEASE: tell me why! I'm a writing student and your words are like gold to me.

More on me: I reside in beautiful B.C. If you've never been to Canada before, it's basically a lot of mountains and rain and weather that forces everyone to bond with their laptops whether they want to or not.

Things I like are writing (you don't say?), making lists, travelling, hot drinks on cold days, music, snowboarding, scarves, digital media, collage, yoga and the B.C. festival scene.

THINGS THAT GET IN THE WAY OF UPDATING:

1) Full-time education and part-time job. Shockingly enough, these take priority over fanfiction.

2) I have a best friend and a boyfriend that purr when I give them attention and hiss atme when I don't.

3) While I may have started out on this website as a weird freshman loner, I have since developed the ability to socially interact. So if I'd rather sit on my friend's couch watching netflix and eating chocolate dipped granola bars than write fanfiction alone in my room, well... don't tell me you don't love netflix and chocolate dipped granola bars.

BUT (even though I should really be prioritizing some original story lines by now...) fanfiction is fun and remains my best source of feedback for my writing! Nothing quite motivates a writer like readers!

If you're here and I'm taking too long to update, go ahead and shoot me an angry message - it gives me more motivation to reopen that word document and get writing.

And in case you're wondering what I have in store fanfiction-wise, I have basically stopped writing for any fandom other than Alex Rider. Other than putting out chapters for the stories I'm currently working on and a few one-shots once in a while don't expect a lot from me.

MY PHILOSOPHY ON REVIEWING

I firmly believe the reason this website has as many stories posted on it as it does is because of the people who review, and encourage the authors to continue their efforts. This is really them "paying" the author for free publications with feedback. My view on reviewing is similar to my view on paying for tickets on subways that run on the honesty system. Sure, you're not necessarily going to be checked or slapped with a fine if you don't pay, but if nobody ever paid, then the company running the subway would no longer have any reason to maintain it or share it with the public. It would close down.

Anyway, because of the baffling view-to-review ratio I always notice when checking out traffic (on one chapter once it was something like 1 in 50 readers reviewed! Holy..) I can't help but adore the people who post something like "update soon" in addition to people willing to up the word count a little more. I guess another good metaphor would be a charity bakery that's by donation. Everybody gets the same cupcake but not everyone leaves the same amount in donation. So you can think of it as the difference between a $0.15 donation (short simple reviews) versus a $5.00 donation (long, detailed reviews) or you can think of it as the difference between $0.15 and nothing, because even $0.15 reviews add up with the kind of traffic this website generates! (And I am not ashamed to admit that I compare the amount of reviews I get for a new chapter with the previous chapters' numbers...)

Also, even short reviews help you hit huge milestone moments like 50 reviews, then a 100, then 200, and so on, and that's a really wonderful feeling! But if you're feeling generous...

THINGS I LOVE LOVE LOVE READING IN A REVIEW FOR ONE OF MY STORIES (or, how to review a story if you don't know where to start)

1. I absolutely love it when a reader quotes me in a review; specific lines they liked or little jokes they laughed at. This just makes me feel so fuzzy inside because then I'm like, "dude, thank you. i was totally snickering when i wrote that, too." I feel this kind of appreciation deeply.
2. On the flipside, I've always preferred more general criticisms over specific lines the reader didn't like (then it feels more like they're picking on smaller mistakes, like they do with your work in school...) That's not to say criticism isn't great to receive just so long as there's a point to it and it's connected to the bigger picture of improving the author's writing and the story overall.
3. I like it when people point out my typos, because even though I end up proofreading every scene like ten times each over of the course of writing and publishing the chapter, somehow my eyes still miss some seemingly glaring errors. So when enough mistakes have been caught I'll go back and edit them out all at once. Very cool little system that saves me the trouble of the whole beta business!
4. When people try and predict what happens next or tell me what they're hoping to see happen: I love this. It gives me ideas and insight into the way readers are engaging with the writing and plot. And it generates inspiration for me to write the next part of the story. Also, on many occasions I actually take what people tell me they want to see more of and work those requests into the plot! So yeah. I TAKE REQUESTS :)

But honestly? I don't really care what the person puts in the review -- I'm just stoked to get any kind of feedback!

Sure, it's very nice of fanfiction writers to give out free writing and devote so much time to a profitless profession, but let's face it: we do it because we like it, and we publish it for the attention we receive. So we owe just as much to the reviewers as they owe to us!

STORIES

Life's a Beach (T) - Written purely to satisfy my own Alex Rider infatuation -- though the reviews have been great. This story began mostly as just my weird sense of humor needing a medium. It explores a teenage Alex and K-unit's more boyish side. Recent chapters have introduced the serious elements of violence, trauma, suspense and mental illness! Tune in for friendship, tumultuous romance, MI6, psychological breakdowns and Scorpia. And beware of the strange humor/angst dynamic that will probably confuse you. Big chapters here. AlexSabina (in the long run), FoxJack, and EagleOC. T for violence, torture, disturbing themes, sexual references and language.

All in the Faculty (K) - In Progress - light-hearted little Alex/Tom friendship piece I decided to post up here because I figured people would enjoy. This is comedic banter and friendship with some romance thrown in (not slash) that is probably going to be a lot longer than i planned... as usual /sigh.

Cafune (K) - In Progress - I've always wanted to write an Alex/Sabina story as well as try my hand at writing some proper romance, so that's what this is about. Not my biggest priority though.
