Author has written 1 story for Flame of Recca.
I didn't particularly join this site to publish stories, but only to give reviews. I hope people won't mind me giving constructive criticism.
I have favorites too, and I had been reading around for a long time now. I think this is my chance to finally give my opinions and suggestions. I may offend some people because of my criticisms, but I hope they'll see through them and not take them personally, instead have in mind that I'm trying my best to help others out, and boost the talent they naturally have but not yet enhanced. I am not saying I am a good writer, but I am saying that I'm an objective reviewer, and hope no one says otherwise.
I don’t mind unlikely pairings, I read all kinds. I read normal pairings, shonen ai, shojo ai, yaoi, pairing that come from different series and so on.
Series I know:
Cardcaptor Sakura, Flame of Recca (Recca no Honou), Prince of Tennis, Slam Dunk, Kaleido Star, Marmalade Boy, Fushigi Yuugi (a little, I last watched the series when I was, I think, six) Yu Yu Hakusho, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, Inu Yasha, Full Metal Panic (a little), Hana Yori Dango, His and Her Circumstances (Kare Kano), Detective Conan (Case Closed), Vampire Knight, Vampire Knight Guilty, Midori no Hibi, Ouran High School Host Club, Special A, Death Note and Tenjho Tenge (a little)
I don’t mind OCCness that much; that’s why fics are created, right? So writers can satisfy their desire to penetrate the original storyline. But still, I think a writer should not try to make a character a completely different person, as this will hardly lead to a fanfic but to one's own story just using the names or situations of the characters involved.
I don’t look too much on technicality; I look on the plot, the script and of course, the summary.
Summary - a good summary is necessary to acquire the attention of readers and writers as well. It is not only a preview; it’s like an appetizer in every meal.
Plot - the plot is the heart of a fic. It should be interesting and if possible, original.
Script - even a cliché plot can be made unique with a good script. When I mention script, I refer to conversations. Humorous or unique words can reverse the effects of a common plot. The maturity and wit are tested in this.
Extraordinary factors - additional descriptions and replacing common words may help, but only in moderate use. Paragraphs which are too long tend to throw the reader’s attention out of the window and straight to the trash bin.
Authors I admire:
yanagi-chyan - she has the expertise and the wit combined, and I had observed her maturity evolution over the years. (I am assuming she’s now in college by her way of writing. Please correct me if I’m wrong.) For now, she has decided to retire in writing.
varon - a very professional and brilliantly talented fic writer. She went on hiatus for quite some time but still her impact in this industry never died down. Her fics are full to the brink with magnificent conviction and serve as turning points from reality to suburb idealism.
Eirist - gifted with the spunk and the spark for ToFuu and I believe, can be also applicable for other anime. I believe she could still improve a lot no matter where she is standing now, and can be seen with a lot of potential.
rainbowsindecember - a great writer with a kick for shonen-ai. Her (? Correct me if I’m wrong about the genders) maturity and humor are highly enigmatic and her plots are kept original by her script.
I know I have mentioned that I am not here to post stories, so some may wonder why I have one story under my account. It is not mine, it is anatagasuki's story she requested me to post under my name because of certain reasons. I think she explained it fully inside the story. Sorry for the inconvenience or any possible confusion this gave anyone.
