Author has written 1 story for Twilight.
I'm not a very experienced writer (in fact, I hated reading as I was growing up), but I was suddenly bitten by the writing-bug during the time I was a Harry Potter fanatic. I've written just one complete fanfic in the past, but I decided it wasn't good enough to place in FanFiction.net.
Twilight has inspired me so much - particularly Jacob Black and the Quileute Pack - that I decided to write a Twilight fanfiction. "Northern Lights" is written in Kayla Whitehorse's POV as she interacts with her best friend, Bella, and she observes (while trying to stifle her desire to wipe out the Cullens and Quileute boys) the goings-on in Forks. When I first came up with the idea of Kayla, she was just an observer - watching Edward and Bella's love deepen (if that were possible) and forms a bond with Jacob Black. HOWEVER... original characters and their muses have a way of just hitting you upside the head and taking off on their own, and that's exactly what happened to Kayla. Before I knew it, Kayla became a Slayer, itching to eliminate the Cullens and the Werewolf Pack. As for her relationship with Jacob - well, let's just say it's a tad "hairy". LOL
Status of "Northern Lights" as of February 2, 2009: I apologize for not updating in a LLLOOONNNNGGGGG while! Real life has taken over and I'm finding it hard to find the time to write, but I promise I WILL get to it! Chapter 16 is almost done!!
Q & A
How did you come up with Kayla Whitehorse? Was she always intended to be a Native American?
Yes. When I thought of Kayla, I already knew she was going to be half-Navajo and half-Irish-American. I wanted her to have both cultural perspectives, which I thought might be helpful in the storyline. As with any character - OC or otherwise - there is a bit of me in Kayla, so she is the one I can relate to the most. She is a flawed character, but she does what she believes is the right thing to do. The existence of the Cullens and the Quileute Pack doesn't make that easy though.
Is this an action/suspence story or a love story?
Both! The first few chapters might lag a bit because I'm introducing the characters and establishing their relationships, and then the action really kicks in in Chapter 4. The love story aspect takes a little longer to come in, except Edward and Bella's of course. That's there right from the beginning.
This is not an AU. When does the story take place?
This story is Eclipse-compliant, meaning that we can assume that everything up to the end of Eclipse to be "fact", as far as Stephenie Meyer's characters go. This means that by the time "Northern Lights" begins, Bella has already accepted Edward's proposal, Jacob and Edward has had their chat in the tent, and Edward's already sent Jacob an invitation to the wedding (thereby sending Jacob running off in agony, for an indefinite period of time). I did add a few minor details from Breaking Dawn though (heh heh - Thank you Stephenie, for giving us the first chapter!)
Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Team Jacob. No question about it. That being said, I do not think that Jacob and Bella should be together. She belongs with Edward. My inspiration to write this fanfic was really the desire to see Edward and Bella be together and also for Jacob to find peace in all this. He deserves so much more than what Bella could ever give him. Edward will always be in her heart, and if she chose Jacob, he would always be "second best" - that's just too cruel and he deserves so much more happiness. Basically, I want a happy ending for everyone, but it's not always easy... especially when one has a rogue muse. LOL
So you have a happy ending planned out for this story?
For the most part, yes. But again, the road to happiness for everyone isn't easy, and there will be some sacrifices made. I don't want to say too much - I don't want to spoil this story. LOL You'll just have to read the whole thing!
