"The secret garden is always open now. Open, and awake, and alive. If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden."
I try to remember that quote as I go throughout life. I like to think it applies to fanfiction too. A lot of my favorite pairings are those May/December romances (Jane and Mr. Rochester, Severus and Hermione) or ones where the characters have a lot to overcome, in both situation and temperament, to be together (Sherlock and Molly, Colonel Brandon and Marianne). As Laura Ingalls Wilder once said, "a rose in December is much rarer than a rose in June," and my favorite plants have always been the wild climbing sort; ivy and lilac and honeysuckle and cornflower, rather than lilies and daisies. Anything can grow in a garden, if it's just given the sunshine.
In case you couldn't tell yet, my mindset is a little lost in the middle of the British countryside. My favorite fandoms right now are:
Harry Potter (Severus/Hermione, Remus/Hermione, Remus/Tonks, Lucius/Narcissa, Voldemort/Narcissa, Severus/Narcissa)
Call the Midwife (Patrick/Shelagh)
Foyle's War (Foyle/Sam)
Jane Austen (Darcy/Elizabeth, Colonel Brandon/Marianne, Knightley/Emma, Wentworth/Anne)
Jane Eyre (Rochester/Jane)
Downton Abbey (Matthew/Mary, Anthony/Edith, Tom/Sybil, Bates/Anna)
Band of Brothers (Doc Roe/Renée, Welsh/Kitty, OFC/Nixon, Winters, Roe, Webster, Lipton, or Speirs)
Sherlock (Sherlock/Molly, Sherlock/Irene)
Any suggestions or recommendations for fics would be greatly appreciated. I'm always looking for new stuff to read.
I'm a procrastinator. It's a fault, but not nearly as bad as my tendency to start something and never finish it. A good beta reader (who isn't afraid to light the fire under my behind in times of writer's block) wouldn't go amiss. Anyone with knowledge of Harry Potter or Foyle's War?
I'm currently reading some excellent Peter Pan fanfic starring a grown-up Wendy and Captain Hook... a ship covered in pixie-dust and sailing past Big Ben.
