I'm a 911 dispatcher by pay, EMS by effort, and EMT by July 2017. My writing will often reflect this - the indomitability of the human spirit despite the pain, loss, and grief that simply living can bring - and will bring to light both medical and emotional revelations. I write for the release, the comfort of exploring things that I cannot imagine living through while living through them through others. It's a wonderful, terrible existence that I am so privileged to have. Hearing someone die over the phone, a time of death echo through the radio, and the rush of blood under vinyl gloves, is terrible. Being the one to give CPR instructions that brings them back, hearing that radio static and knowing you did everything you could, telling a panicked mother that she will absolutely get home to her children and bending every part of yourself to make that happen, is a shaky kind of wonderful.
I wish it on no one, and I dream of doing nothing else.
I'm a serious comedian with macabre humor and a quick wit that keeps me sane, healthy, and, if not happy, balanced. My family, stronger and more courageous than myself, is my lifeline in an ocean that is constantly - daily, hourly - trying to drown everyone in it.
My favor to ask, my personal drive for everyone, should you make it your own mission: be the best of humanity when it's at its worst.
