Greetings fellow members of the human persuasion. I have to say, I am in awe of how brave anyone who has posted on this site is. It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there for people to see, read, critique, etc…
I would never have had the courage to post an emoticon here, let alone a story had I not been dared by a friend. Curse people who remember what I was like in school.
There really isn’t much to say about me, except I tend to talk a lot and I don’t really watch what I say at times, so I am sorry if I offend anyone. I write – obviously, but didn't start writing fan fiction until a friend of mine approached me after the Transformers Movie came out. Although I may have a story I wrote about the Popples from when I was younger, if anyone can remember them.
I get bored easily, so I tend to spend time writing (or doing something else!) on one thing then leave it until the desire hits to write again. I have a general rule to finish something before I post it, thanks to my friend KC since she tends to verbally kick me up the backside if I don't finish. Most that I write will probably be short unless the demons keep me up at night. Because of this I also tend to find different things interesting at different times, so I will probably not stick to one or a few fandoms, but end up writing about too many and get lost trying to sort it out. Go figure.
My Age – Old enough to know better, young enough I could probably get away with it.
I have degrees in Elementary, Middle School Education, and adult education but the pay teachers receive in the US is quite abysmal, so I taught abroad in Republic of Georgia, South Korea, and China. While in China I taught for Disney English, which lacks the integrity of Disney in America, so I didn't stay. Instead I am back at uni getting another bachelor's degree in Philosophy before I head on to my doctorate in Education.
That being said, I am not a perfect person or writer. The fabulous Risque Tendencies reads my longer stuff to make sure it's not too butchered, but any of my one-shot series I don't have someone else correct. If I have made a mistake, please let me know. I request a little maturity in presenting it though, especially since I have found that some people on this site have a lack of manners. When I call someone out on something such as begging for reviews or their lack of understanding, I stay signed in so they can contact me. I expect people to have enough guts to do the same if they want to tell me that I don't have a clue either.
My only dislike - The act of someone allowing ignorance to keep them from learning everything we have been offered.
My favorite book is "Tim" by Colleen McCullough - there is a beautiful movie with Mel Gibson from the 70's and another from the 90's. I also read Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice at least once a year. I am addicted to Japanese manga, specifically BL - so I am a total fujoshi. I really enjoy Jyunjyou Romantica and the spinoff Sekaiichi Hatsukoi. Then again my collection also includes things like Fruits Basket, Yatsubato!, Kuroshitsuji, Loveless, Kimi Wa Petto, The Gokusen, and Ouran High School Host Club - so who the heck really knows what is going on in my mind at any given time.
Things no one wanted to know :
1. I have been banned from using Star Trek references while at work.
2. I have also been banned from discussing Skippy’s List and Chucknorrisfacts.com content. In addition, anything that is said on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, is not allowed. (I obviously like Skippy's List.)
3. I am allowed to reference Doctor Who, though no one knows what I am talking about.
4. I have to limit my Transformers references to eight times a day.
5. I am no longer allowed to burst into song for no apparent reason, especially television theme songs.
6. I translated the birthday song into Klingon and sang it to a friend who had turned 27.
7. I reference Shakespeare in everyday conversation, more than I probably should.
8. If I am reading any of your stories on this site, via my phone, while at work, I need to keep from cackling like the Wicked Witch of the West.
9. Referencing anything that someone might not know anything about, like obscure books from the 1800’s, graphic novels, television shows and actors from before I was born, need to be kept at a minimum because people don’t know or don’t care. (I tend to overact while at work, using a lot of movements I learned from watching way too many Charlie Chaplin movies. It makes people laugh, especially when I do the "Roll Dance" using pizza slices or the like.)
10. I am no longer allowed to text message my friends at two in the morning with questions like : do you consider me clinically crazy or warm-fuzzy crazy? The answer I got back was clinically, because of the time of day. On normally asking that question, it would be warm-fuzzy.
Eventually I would like to retire in a warm place like Costa Rica (I should brush up on my Spanish rather than working on my Korean or Japanese) because I dislike snow with a vengeance.
I’ve been given three great compliments in life : The spaceship that dropped me off here, needs to pick me up and take me back home. I know, freakin, everything (which isn’t true, I just do a good job of pretending). I could rival the filibuster Jimmy Stewart’s character did in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. (Though a friend recently commented that I talk like the people from the "Twilight" series do. Not sure if that's a compliment, though she is enamored with all four books, so I will take it as a compliment.)
I have recently started a page on the sister site for original ideas. If you would like to check it out - http://www.fictionpress.com/u/626614/
I have set up a page at yourfanfiction dot com where an MA rating is allowed. I do not have many stories that fit this profile, but since a few of the authors I read have set up camp there with a number of my favorite stories I am also going to take their lead. The place also offers adding some 'real' people options which I have a few of those written for friends that I may upload. Same username.
If you have continued reading this far, I drop my hat to you.
Avatar - My current avatar is of a kodama (tree spirit) house I saw while in Glover Garden, a tourist place in Nagasaki Japan. I was so excited when I saw it I just about scared the crap out of my friend. I also ended up buying marimo while in Japan because of my adoration of Junjou Romantica. So this proves that I am a dork. Currently they are living, happily, in a fish bowl on my desk at uni. I give them ice cubes daily.
Personal Rant - I have recently been introduced to a group that is scanning the Sekaiichi Hatsukoi manga and books for English language readers. I understand that there are those out there who really don't like Hatori Yoshiyuki because he forced Chiaki into a sexual encounter, or raped him, in other words. I understand that in the real world NO means NO. At least where I grew up. I do not condone any sort of relationship where that kind of crap occurs. The words to look at though are 'real world'. As this series is a work of fiction and also happens to come from a country where most English-speaking individuals (those who speak English as their first language) are not originally from. Because of this, I know that tastes can run in different directions.
Using the words violently raped when describing the situation is not accurate, in that anyone who has ever been raped will tell you it was violent. There is no gray area with rape, nor is there a white area, it's all black. So, let's look at the situation this way. 1) Was Chiaki beaten to within an inch of his life? No. 2) Was he killed? No. The fact that Chiaki walked away with his life when his friend was so scared he didn't think straight is a blessing and he was willing to forgive the character. End of story. If readers cannot separate fiction from reality then they sure as hell should not be reading anything that falls under Japanese BL manga/novels.
Recently Risque Tendencies, The Shattered Silence, and I have started creating a webpage. Currently it's just for SIH, but there will be additions to include JR as well as many other BL and other types of manga. The page thus far is located at:I have also included the pages from the recent SIH mini-manga that September Scanlations refused to translate into English. Now, mind you, my Japanese kind of sucks, so I didn't go in and write over the words with direct translations. I just gave a small synopsis of what is happening.
