![]() Author has written 23 stories for Sailor Moon, Ranma, Hobbit, Honor Harrington, Star Wars, and Oh My Goddess!. ADDITIONAL SPECIAL NOTE: With the additional lockdown that the admins for this site have imposed and the games they've been playing with the "Email Opt-in" function, I've pretty much given up posting to this site, switching to purely AO3 (same pen name). I intend to post here the chapters needed to complete my unfinished stories, but only once they've been finished. SPECIAL NOTE: For awhile now I've found the admins of this site to be less than responsive to their customers, both writers and readers - the writers in the slapdash and arbitrary way the admins have handled stories with adult content, and for readers in the way the admins have tried to lock the site down so the only way to actually read the stories is through directly accessing the site rather than downloading the stories for reading on portable devices like Kindles. As a result, in order to reduce the monopolistic power of FFnet, I've started a list of writers that post to the Archive of Our Own (AO3), fanfic site and have been encouraging other writers to post there. The list isn't very long yet, but if anyone knows other writers that post to both FFnet and AO3 PM me and I'll happily add them to the list. Writers that have an account at AO3 [pen name at AO3 when different] A word on why the early chapters are so short is probably a good idea. By its nature Anime Addventure, where I used to post my writings first, encourages shorter chapters so that at decision points you can give up to five possible ways for things to go for anyone else that wants to join in, plus a generic “whatever you come up with” option. As well, I’ve found that around 1500 words is about what I can do in two to three days. Sometimes a scene will carry me along to 3000 or more words, but 1500 to 2500 seems to be my usual (my earliest episodes were somewhat shorter). When I decided to post stories here, I considered combining episodes into longer chapters, but decided against it — if I did combine the earlier episodes I've written I’d have a choice of later chapters being significantly shorter, or waiting until I’d posted three or four episodes there before adding a new chapter here. So, in the end I decided to just go with each episode a chapter. When I put up a poll here on the question, around 2/3 preferred shorter chapters with quicker updates, so a solid majority of those that bothered to make their opinion known agreed. Note that when I reposted Ranma, the Naive Succubus and Chained World here I did combine chapters, so those ones are now somewhat longer. Also, for awhile I tried setting the minimum chapter length to 3,000 words for new chapters but reverted to the smaller length, it just wasn't working for me. Story Types: When first posting my stories at Anime Addventure I’d get the occasional comment saying, “I was really enjoying your story until [fill in the blank].” I can understand how people might like a little forewarning, so while trying to avoid giving away any particulars, here’s a few notes on my stories so people can avoid disappointment and wasting their time reading a story they’ll ultimately drop. I hope this helps. First, I think it’s fairly clear that Akane was the fiancée that Takahashi felt would eventually win Ranma’s hand and had already won his heart, and that’s usually how my own stories go (though my “Ranma, the Naive Succubus” series is an exception, with a rather different Nabiki being the one). I’m also usually a big believer in happy endings, so if you can’t stand the idea of Ranma and Akane making it work as a couple, you aren’t going to like most of my stories. Second, I have a taste for Ranma-chan stories. It isn’t as pronounced as my preference for Akane so not all my stories fit that mold, but a good number of them do: Ranma-chan stories Third, while I find chapters with a high citrus content one of the harder things to write, I’ve also found that I like stories that have an occasional strong dash of citrus. Again, it’s hardly all of them: Stories with occasional high citrus content Story conversions/downloads & Alternate fanfiction site: Two notes of interest, I've found a new site for downloading fanfic stories, and I've been using Archive of Our Own (AO3) as a mirror site for posting my stories. For the first, check out FicSave (ficsave dot com) online. It converts fanfics on a few sites, including this one, to a number of formats, including MOBI for those that have Kindles. And unlike Fanfiction Downloader it's completely web-based, so it does not require you to install anything on your computer. For the second, when FanFiction's admins went on a purging binge awhile back I went looking for other places to post my works. I'd already stopped posting anything at Anime Addventure and MediaMiner, the first because I got tired of the often hostile atmosphere and overly picky quality control and the second because of intermittent problems with uploading chapters. Adult Fanfiction and Ficwad are all out for various reasons and Your Fanfiction did a spectacular crash-and-burn, so I decided to try out Archive of Our Own (AO3) and have now posted all my stories there, uncensored. That includes Second Chances (which will eventually be reposted here after some rewriting and toning down the lemons to hopefully "M" level) and both The Lemon Flu: Aftermath and Unlikely Alliances, neither of which will be posted here, too many lemons. All new chapters will go up on AO3 first, and FanFiction the following morning. Another way of divvying up stories: Another way of looking at fanfics is the way the writer plots them out. Type I - Epic Meta-Plot: This one has the massive meta-plot covering multiple story arcs. It's the one most likely to never be completed just because of its sheer size, though multiple story arcs might be finished. I have one of these, the "A New Future" storyline detailing the beginning of the return of Earth to interplanetary space millennia after the fall of Lunar Empire (its unofficial name). Beyond the story I'm currently writing, I have another five story arcs and a sidestory in mind. We'll see how many of them actually get written. Type II - The Plotted Out Story: The writer is working off an overall plot for the story being written, but may or may not have vague ideas for future stories beyond the first. Most of my stories are firmly in this category, though "The Raven," "Yrthbound" and "Chained World" are midway between this and Type I ("Second Chances" has the potential to move there) and "DarkAngel and Cherub" is midway between this and Type III (I have a general destination, just very fuzzy on the details of how to get there). Type III - Making It Up as You Go Along: I have a few of these, no real destination in mind, just tossing out an occasional episode for fun, but I haven't posted any of them here. Both "DarkAngel and Cherub" and "Ranma, the Naive Succubus" started out in this category, but the back of my mind wouldn't stop throwing ideas up for inspection. We'll see if any others mature from III to II A Dream of Trees There is a thing in me that dreamed of trees, There is a thing in me still dreams of trees. I would it were not so, but so it is. |
